Overview

Conquer one of Sri Lanka’s toughest and most scenic hill treks on this private full-day Devil’s Staircase hike from Bambarakanda. What To Expect

Meet your guide early at Bambarakanda and after an introduction, start up the steep Devil’s Staircase trail. A back-up vehicle will follow behind you to deal with any unexpected situations. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring clothes suitable for warm, windy, or rainy conditions.

Absorb the peace and scenery as you ascend sections of road and rough tracks. The corkscrew route winds between deserted estates, towering pines, green hills, lush tea plantations, and gurgling streams.

Break about every mile (1.5 kilometers) to savor energy slabs and water, and admire and photograph the breathtaking panoramas over Sri Lanka’s mountains and valleys. Your guide will point out places of interest and beauty spots to ensure you make the most of the scenery and trail.

Traverse the narrow V-Cut pass between sheer cliffs, and stop to admire the Bambarakanda Falls, Sri Lanka’s highest. Take in the 862-foot (263-meter) cascade before continuing along zig-zagging trails.

On route, stop for a picnic lunch of pasta, a boiled egg, sausages, and fresh fruits.

After about 10 hours of hiking, including rest stops, arrive at the hill town of Ohiya, near the Horton Plains National Park. Your tour then ends here at about 5:30pm.
