Great experience with Maniti exploring the Amazon from Iquitos! Our tour guide, Alfredo, was excellent and very knowledgeable about the wildlife and the area. He was very patient in looking for different animals and ensuring that we had the best experience. We were slightly nervous about the night hike through the jungle, but he made us feel safe and we are glad we did it! The food was also delicious and all the staff at the lodge were welcoming and friendly. Amazing experience and definitely recommend!

Unprofessional tour

Wenjia_L, Jan 2025
The whole two-day tour was very unprofessional and not worth the money. The living conditions were very poor and minimal: only 3 hours of electricity and 4 hours of WiFi each day, and there was no clean water. We had to pay for bottled drinking water. We also got bed bug bites. Food was tasty, but limited supply—given the amount of money we paid, I would expect to at least have enough fruits, instead of one piece of fruit each person. All these could be tolerated if the tour was good, but no… Our guid was very unprofessional. He didn’t tell us any knowledge about the Amazon or the jungle except for pointing out some animals and plants. Nothing more—he didn’t talk much. He only talked to the person next to him and left the rest of the group wondering what they saw and what things were. He told us to meet at 6am the second day, but when we were ready, he just canceled the trip without reasons. And then when another person asked, he changed plan back to leaving without reasons either. His English was very poor—he barely understood us, and we barely understood him. He had a tough time formulating longer sentences in English, and we believe he couldn’t really talk about the region because of that. He is a nice guy and helped us get on and off the boat and with our luggage, but he was not trained to be an adequate and professional tour guide at all. It feels like the company just grabbed a random local guy who knows a little English to do this professional job. The whole trip was very disorganized. There were always 1-2 hours between activities or between activities and meals when we were left doing nothing. We were told to go back our rooms to “rest”, but the rooms had not even electricity and we were just sitting in heat and humidity doing nothing. The sites we visited were not exciting either. We hoped to see Amazon animals in their natural habitat, but we saw human fed animals in a village and zoo like animals in cages. Last but not least, we were given a feedback form in front of the camp crew, including the guide, to fill in. How could we write anything negative when our return boat ride was still in their hands? We would like to request a refund for at least half of what we paid. We paid 375 dollars each person, and our family all felt it was a ripoff for the service we got.

Dear Wenjia_L, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are truly sorry to hear that your experience did not fully meet your expectations. Our primary goal is to provide an authentic Amazon experience, tailored to the unique conditions of this remote region. As we have noted previously, access to electricity and Wi-Fi is limited due to the natural environment in which we operate and the challenges of working in such a remote location. Our local guides are experts in the region's flora and fauna, and their knowledge is an integral part of the value we aim to share with our visitors. We wish we had the opportunity to address and resolve your concerns during your stay, as we are committed to improving and ensuring our guests' satisfaction in real time. Additionally, we appreciate the positive rating you provided on our evaluation form, which reinforces our dedication to offering high-quality service. Our management team would like to learn more details about your experience so we can better understand the issues and work towards a solution. Your feedback is invaluable and will help us continue improving our services. Kind regards, Mabel Reyes Maniti Expeditions

Brief Amazon Visit

The Maniti Lodge eco experience was enjoyable! Segundo, our guide, was doting, fun, and told jokes as we hiked. Javier was our fearless and friendly boat driver. The one recommendation and change that would have made the trip even better would have been if Segundo walked with us at the animal sanctuaries and provided translations to English. We also didn’t get to fish since another group was paired with us & the guide made a schedule based off their timeline. Overall, we would recommend Maniti!

Good Jungle Experience

Monkey Island!! Hugging a sloth, befriending monkeys, holding a centipede, catching a piranha, the delicious group meals at Maniti Eco Lodge, our amazing guide Segundo.

2 days of jungle fun

Johnnie_S, Nov 2023
I thoroughly enjoyed my tour. We got to do a lot in just two days. We saw many animals and hiked the jungle. Our guide Edwin was fantastic. I would do another tour with him. The accommodations are basic and fine for a night. The meals were yummy. We even got to eat our own piranha caught earlier that day. Be sure to bring cash tips for different things.

Amazing experience!

Dissapointing

There is still a lot to be desired. For the money paid hotel plck up should be there. The boat to take us to the lodge made us wait for full 30 mts till the boat became full with lot of passengers.the boats at the lodge are too old.it was very frustrating to see other boats going past us while we were slowly chugging away.

Response from Host, Jan 2020

Hello, thank you for your review. Our pacakges sold through third parties do not include airport/hotel pickups, this service is only included free or charge for direct bookings. We are sorry to hear about the inconvenience with the wait time at the port. Please consider the weather for that day which caused a delay in our boat arriving to the port at the schedule time. All of our boats are regularly maintained and checked for any type of issues to ensure no problems occur for our travelers.

Jungle Tour

Moritz H, Nov 2019
The tour is too expensive. You get basically the same for half the money or less if you book it in Iquitos. There are also more than enough tours, so you don't have to worry about not finding one there. And head flashlights are not even included, they are sold to you when you arrive at the meeting point, which I think is rude, considering you pay 250$ pp. Nevertheless, our tour guide was very competent and nice (Linder, young man who was born and raised in an indigeneous tribe in the jungle). Unfortunately we couldn't go on the night excursion, because of the heavy rainfall.

Response from Host, Nov 2019

Hello Moritz H, thanks for your review! There are cheaper and more expensive options when shopping for tours in Iquitos. Be weary of purchasing a tour in Iquitos as there are many people who sell tours who are not licensed and will promise you the world and more often than not, underdeliver. We do not included free head flashlights and we offer them for purchase. Prior to arrival we share with you a packing list that highlights all items that we suggest bringing on your tour before you arrive to Iquitos. We hope to see you again soon!

Fantastic trip in the Amazon with Alfredo

Slavina_G, Aug 2019
We had an incredible time with the Maniti tour group. Our tour guide, Alfredo, was incredibly knowledgeable and a pleasure to be around. He had many insights about everything we visited and we got to see the Amazon rainforest through the eyes of a local because of him - he really felt more like a friend than a tour guide. Everything was very well planned out and easy to navigate. We left our suitcases at the pickup point, rode mototaxis to the port, then took a boat to the lodges. All the meals they made for us we're incredible, as well as all the hikes and wildlife we saw. Monkey island was incredible and a big highlight of our trip, we got to play and hold many different species of monkeys.
