Overview

Bring your snowboarding skills to the desert on this 3-hour sandboarding experience in Ica. Whether you’re an experienced boarder or have never been, this adventure is for you. First sit through a short sandboarding lesson at Huacachina oasis, and then take a buggy up to one of the tallest desert dunes to practice your skills. Ride the sand or catch air, while you take in stunning views of the everlasting golden scenery.

What To Expect

This 3-hour sandboarding experience meets at the International SandSnow School in Oasis Huacachina, Ica. Your meeting time is dependent on whether you chose the early morning or afternoon departure option.

The first hour of this tour takes place at the school. Test equipment to find the right stuff for you, and listen to a short introduction from the school’s staff. Afterward, your instructor takes you out to the small dunes in the area for a lesson. Here you can also get a feel for how different the sand feels from snow.

Once everyone feels up to it, take a buggy to some of the biggest dunes in the desert. Your instructor lets you ride down the dunes on your board. More experienced boarders can even try to catch some air. Pictures and videos are taken while you’re practicing your skills.

Go back to the school, turn in your equipment, and watch some of the videos of other boarders before heading back home or to your hotel.

Once in a lifetime experience

Very cool experience!! We had a start time of 3pm and got there at 2:50. However, the tour didn’t start till 4:30. We were a bit annoyed by that because we had just flown in that day from the states and drove 4.5 hours from Lima to get here. We were exhausted and wanted to lay in our hotel room for a little longer before going to this. But we got there and had to wait around for 90+ mins. Once out - the guys were amazing and so accommodating to all of us. The buggy car ride was so so fun through the dunes! They taught us to sand board and also took videos of us going down. Lots of very cool pretty shots! It was definitely a once in a lifetime experience. Definitely do it if You’re hesitant. You could also body board down if you can’t ski or snowboard. That’s fun too! My only recommendation is to call the shop and verify the departure time to walk to the sand dunes so you’re not sitting around wasting 90 mins of vacation time.

As a precaution we quoted you in advance because in Peru (Latin America in general) there are always inconveniences on the journey and we always have occasions when the traveler writes to us about some inconvenience of arriving on time or even not arriving that same day and we have had to give them the option of doing the sandboarding or sandskiing experience the next day in the morning. Excellent choice for someone new to sand boarding. I had zero experience and Alexandre was super patient and help me get on the board and go down dunes I never thought in a million years I would! Ohhhh and the sunset.. 🌅 Super recommend! 👌🏻

Recommend for people who are keen for the true sandboarding experience

I know there are lots of "Sandboarding" in Huacachina but most of them wouldn't let you stand up on the board as they don't provide professional snowboard equipment. Sand Snow School aka Sandingboarding Peru provide you the equipment and instruction to help you get the full experience. Jhonny was our tour guide who not only gives me a lot of advice helping me to switch from Snowboarding to Sandboarding, but also did a great job in getting us some awesome video and photos for the gram! Definitely recommended

One of the best experiences ever! We had a professional snowboard teacher who helped us choose the most suitable equipment and later gave us first insights into snowboarding. A sand buggy took us to various sand dunes to practice. The views were amazing and the experience unforgettable!

Awesome instructor and experience! It starts on a smaller hill nearby that you hike up yourself wearing normal snowboard boots. Once you get the hang of it, you jump into a buggy with other people who are riding different boards the laying down kind for a thrilling ride out to bigger hills. We tried 3 or 4 large hills, took a few spills and inevitably got sand everywhere, watched the sunset, and had a lot of laughs! The ride back to Huacachina was another thrilling ride! They immediately share the photos and videos so you have nice memories of the experience without needing to get your phone or camera all sandy!

The best time of my life! The tour guide was very young but knowledgeable. We first practiced on a tiny hill and then were transferred to giant hills via dune buggy. The ride alone was so much fun! Ample time to sand board and the guide was very patient.
