I was in India for a business trip and wanted to take a day to see the TM. I'll start by saying that this trip is fine for just seeing the site, but it comes with pressure to do business with the people they know and ends with a sudden drop in service level on the flight home.
First, I'll start with the pickup. This was fine. They don't hire the best of drivers or provide the most comfortable of vehicles, but they will get you from your hotel to the airport.
Second, the flight to Deli is on IndiGo - which is equivalent to Southwest Airlines. It's what you would expect to American standards of an economy airline. This was fine.
Third, the ride to Agra was fine. The driver and vehicle were comfortable, but do be prepared for a ride that takes about three hours.
Then, you arrive in Agra. This is where things started getting uncomfortable. First stop was to pickup the guide. When we did, it became clear that this person had a cadre of people he wanted me to meet. He described stopping at TM and then that was to be followed by stops at shops and for food. Be aware, these are people they have setup with to funnel tourists.
When you get to the site, one of the first things he'll do is try to get you connected with photographers. Up to you if you want to do it, but it's another way to get you to pay more money.
The guide was good for the site. He knew the good locations to get good shots. I will also say, the tour guide is very connected with the people there. He does know how to maneuver through security and the lines.
When I was ready to leave, it was a hard push to get me to visit their vendors. I just wanted to get back to the airport to get back to my hotel, and I had to be forceful in my desires to not visit their places to buy souvenirs or food.
Drive back was the same as on the way.
Flight back was an eye opener. This flight was booked on Spice Jet. I have to comparison for this airline, other than to say it was dirty and the airplane felt in disrepair. This is a less than economy flight. If you are traveling with the family, especially young kids, I would make my own accommodations with another airline. Oh, it is also known for its horrible service record. They booked my flight for 11 p.m. The flight was delayed until 4 a.m. the next day. If you go with their bookings, be sure to make extra time to get back to your departure point.
Ride back from airport to hotel was with same person. I felt bad for the guy because he had to wait the entire time I was delayed and slept in his car. I gave him extra tip for his troubles.
Overall, this is not a trip I would recommend for a family tour, especially if there are younger kids. Older kids could probably adapt, but this trip is a bare bones experience and expect sales pressure when you're there. I know that comes with the territory in India, but I guess I expected different since I was paying to see the site and nothing else. Also, be prepared that the vehicle accommodations are for transport and not comfort, and do try to negotiate your airline accommodations in advance and to insist on at least IndiGo for the entire trip.
When in India, I would recommend always to AVOID SPICE JET.

Wow. What a great day visiting the Taj Mahal and Fort Agra. Best way to see the sights is with a guide. Vijay was our guide and I was appreciative of his knowledge of the area and the history. I also was glad to have him guide us around the crowds and show us the best viewpoints. I highly suggest a tour guide when visiting Agra so you can learn the history and avoid the crowds.

The tour was demanding but Everything was on time
highly recommended for time constrained travelers. The guide in Abra was fantastic. Unfortunately we have lost his email address and will be happy if you can provide it.
best regards
