Brillant private tour led by the excellent Valentino

We booked a private tour of Luxor to ensure we had the flexibility around tour times and to do exactly what we wanted but also to leave and return when we wanted. We were picked up at 6am from makadi resort and arrived in Luxor around 9.40am. The transport was very comfortable for the 2 of us (a private car). The tour itself was led by the excellent Valentino, who was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and you knew he loved and lived his job and was a great tour guide. He also took great photos of us. We had the option to pay extra to see additional tombs at the valley of the kings (we took this up and saw the tomb of rameses 5 and 6) and also had the option of a trip to banana island. We didn’t do this which was for the decision we took for us. After the site visits in Luxor we had a nice lunch and returned home and arrived back at our hotel at 6pm. Overall if you want a personal, private tour scheduled to suit you. This is the way to go. It was great to have the private experience led by a knowledgeable guide. Despite it being a busy day it was relaxed and we really enjoyed it.

Positives On time, straightforward but long drive from Hurghada to Luxor. Great to see the sights (albeit very short experience) Negatives Extremely long day travelling. Only got to see 3 sights for a short time. Was hoodwinked into thinking that we were visiting a local house where we would be offered “hospitality” but this was really an opportunity for the tour guide to take us into a local pottery shop where you are pretty much hassled to buy something before you can leave. Lunch was at a local restaurant which was a bit dingy - our group were careful with the food we chose however 2 of the group were very ill the next day.

Excursion overall mixed.

The guide was passionate, very friendly and provided many interesting explanations throughout the day. Nothing wrong with that. The driver was also correct and professional. On the other hand, the comfort of the vehicle was not really at the expected level. In addition, the offer mentioned refreshing drinks throughout the trip as well as a snack. Everything went smoothly. The car was very clean and the driver was very nice. The tour guide was very nice and had a lot of information to offer.
