The tour was beautiful ,educational and wonderful but there were many long lines with long waits. Our guide was knowledgeable and shared historic details about each destination.

This was the highlight of our Japan trip (mom and 13yo son). This tour gave us a chance to try the rope way up the mountain and explore the volcanic landscape at the top. Some incredible sights! Our tour guide Ken was very friendly and helpful with explaining the landscape of the area. He also explained to us the importance of the various gates. He waited patiently with us so we could get the photo under the big gate :) it was so much fun and I was so glad we had a guide to help us navigate through the various places. Having Ken help us navigate through this really made it possible to more enjoy the experience. We highly recommend!

Our tour guide Tak was awesome! We did a private tour with him and he took great care of us! He even made sure Mt. Fuji didn’t have any cloud cover for us! 😉 he was very knowledgeable and showed us around the Hakone area. It was nice to not worry about where to go or how to get there.

I only had 5 hours to explore the area and the tour was perfect for me. The guide (Taku) was superb and showed me everything I wanted to see. Even the view of Fuji was stunning! A perfect tour!

Awful tour of Hakone. The local tour company used by Viator was absolutely unaccommodating. The weather on the day of the tour was so poor with heavy winds, pouring rain and zero visibility. It was so terrible that the boat portion of the tour was cancelled by Hakone. But the local tour company refused to cancel and refused to offer any portion of a refund. And disappointingly, Viator failed to support us in our request. Very disappointing. The local tour operator (sub contractor) was YURAGI travels and I would sincerely say that they do not support clients in any way and are only interested in a money grab. Very sad. Very unprofessional !

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, and we are genuinely sorry that the weather in Hakone that day was so severe. Conditions like those are rare, and we understand how disheartening it is when a long-awaited trip is affected by something completely out of anyone's hands.
A couple of clarifications that we hope are helpful for anyone reading:
• YURAGI is not the operator of the Hakone pirate ship cruise. That service is run independently by the local cruise company, and the decision to suspend sailings that day was made by them for passenger safety.
• Our cancellation and refund policy is flexible, and we often accommodate guests on a case-by-case basis. For bookings made via Viator, however, refund decisions are handled and finalized by Viator's own review team. In this case, Viator assessed the situation and made their determination independently.
We care deeply about every guest's experience and regret that this one ended on a disappointing note. If you ever return to Japan, we would welcome the chance to host you again under better skies.

A very good tour. Our time well spent since we are only stay for two nights in Harkone. Our guide, Ken is very helpful and knowledgeable with the places we went. Also gave us advice on how to tour efficiently. Highly recommended.

We chose to do a private tour as we only had one full day in Hakone and read about the long lines along the Hakone loop. We are very glad we did this as our guide Hina knew all the best ways to get us through so even though it was a high traffic time, we made it through all the main sites in one day. Hina had excellent communication - she was very responsive by text and helped us each step of the way knowing where to get ticket upgrades and which lines to stand in. When we did have to wait in line, she was able to share information about the site and answer our questions. She knew all the places to take great photos and sent us beautiful photos she had taken of us with her camera. And she knew where to find local artwork at the gift shops. Thank you Hina for making our brief time in Hakone maximally enjoyable!

Hina was a wonderful guide, very attentive to our needs and the speed that my wife and I were able to walk (we are elderly). She also had a very open and relaxed nature, chatting with us while we were waiting for our transportation from site to site (Hakone ropeway, pirate ship). The tour stops were very good, offering great views of Mount Fuji and Lake Ashi.

Our tour was completely enjoyable from beginning to end. Yuragi was extremely professional and informative about the history and culture of Japan. It was a great touch to use the various modes of public transportation including the cable car, ropeway, and Lake Ashi boat to connect all the highlights. He chose an excellent restaurant for lunch as well. I highly recommend.
