As a first-time visitor to Galway, I was really excited to dive into the local food scene, and Galway Food Tours was the perfect way to do just that! Our tour guide, Anais, was so welcoming and incredibly knowledgeable — not just about the amazing food, but also about the rich history and culture of Galway itself.
We visited a wonderful mix of places, each with its own story and specialty. You’ll definitely want to come hungry because by the end, you’ll leave with a full belly and an even fuller appreciation for Galway’s history and food traditions.
Highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to experience the heart (and flavor!) of Galway!

Great way to spend an afternoon in Galway. Lots of great food got to see a lot of Galway on this walking tour.

This is a taste of traditional and modern Galway. Danny, our guide introduced us first to the new coffee culture and amazing bakeries before taking us to a more traditional taste of Galway with a focus on fresh produce, fish, and more. The real treat was learning how new Galway chefs are taking fresh and local ingredients and creating exciting bites for locals and tourists alike. Danny weaved food culture together with the history of Galway.
One important recommendation: take this tour at the beginning of your trip as you will want to go back and revisit some of the places or eat at the many recommendations provided by the tour.

This was an absolutely phenomenal tour experience! I’ve done many food tours all over Europe and this is easily one of the top ones I’ve done. I also wholly appreciate that it wasn’t traditional Irish food, but had a specific intent.

Our guide Sarah was very friendly and welcoming. She was very relaxed and informative about Galway and the local mproduce we sampled. The food was lovely and the length of tour spot on

So much great food and interesting info about Galway and the history of its food.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly.

Good mix of food options though note it isn’t classic Irish food options for the most part. More a mix of influences on Galway. Plenty of food to be lunch. Fun guide.

A great food tour for someone who is open to trying all kinds of food. Enjoyed chocolates, cheeses, meats, fried cheese, and different types of alcohol. Lunch was a delicious seafood meal. My guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Would recommend for anyone looking to try good food.

Kerry was warm and friendly and took us on a lovely walking tour of Galway where we sampled delicious desserts, whiskey, food and cheeses. She was knowledgeable and welcoming. The others in our tour were fun and by the end of the tour we all agreed eating and gathering together was a terrific recipe for cultural exchange and building friendships

All the places I wanted to try - great guide - excellent food and beyond what I expected. Good variety of food and drinks to try. Enjoyed hearing all the backstories for the places we tried and it was nice to see various parts of the city. A great tour!

Great guide and wonderful food. Felt like I understood Galway's multi-cultural food scene and community much better.

Definitely not worth the money. We had one vegetarian out of 12 people that the tour was catered to. It should be listed more as a dessert tour than a food tour. We left the tour hungry and went to the local pub for additional food after spending a 100$ for this.
Response from Host, Aug 2025
Dear Jennifer,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are very sorry to hear that the tour did not meet your expectations. We want every guest to feel they’ve had a memorable and enjoyable experience, and we regret that this wasn’t the case for you.
That said, we do want to clarify what the tour included, as it was not designed solely as a dessert/vegetarian tour. During your visit, you and your group enjoyed a wide variety of local specialties, including:
Handcrafted chocolates and pastries
Coffee from a local roaster
Three different Irish spirits paired with artisanal meats and cheeses
Award winning turnip and Connemara mackerel sushi
Local goat cheese croquettes with an oyster and a craft beer brewed exclusively for that venue
Falafel with scallion ranch and locally produced halloumi
Heirloom tomato galette
Rich chocolate cake with coffee cream cheese and whiskey-infused butterscotch
Traditional Irish ice cream
A Valentia Island vermouth cocktail
In addition, each guest received a Galway Food Tour tote bag containing a local gin-infused mustard and a map to continue exploring the city’s food culture.
We take your comments seriously, especially regarding dietary balance. While we always aim to accommodate dietary needs (including vegetarian options), we will review our offerings to ensure that the experience feels well-rounded and satisfying for all participants.
We truly value your feedback, as it helps us improve.
Thank you again for joining us, and we’re sorry that the tour wasn’t the right fit for you.
Warm Regards,
Sheena

Lovely day with our guide. Food was delicious and it was so fascinating learning about the history of the food scene in Ireland. Recommend to all!
Connie_B, Apr 2025
Not as interesting as other food tours I have taken in other countries. Some of the things we had did not even seem very typical (fried beet and goat cheese balls??)
Response from Host, May 2025
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts, and we’re glad you found your guide friendly and enjoyed the chocolates. We're sorry to hear the experience didn’t fully meet your expectations.
We aim to offer a carefully curated journey through Galway’s rich culinary scene, featuring both traditional fare — like lamb stew, oysters, mussels, and Irish cheeses — and modern interpretations of local ingredients, such as sushi and the artisan St. Tola’s Goat Cheese Croquette with beetroot, wild garlic and Sliabh Aughty honey you mentioned. While some elements may feel unexpected, they reflect the evolving creativity of Ireland’s food producers and chefs.
We always strive to balance authenticity with innovation and truly value feedback like yours, which helps us refine and improve. We hope the rest of your travels bring many more memorable food experiences.

We had Michelle today take us on a yummy tour of Galway. We got to sample coffee, chocolate, pastries, savory food, including Irish stew and muscles and then some yummy ice cream all truly enjoyable. We actually went back the next day and got the cheeses and the meats that she showed us that were absolutely delicious and we continued to enjoy them our next two days. Excellent program supporting small businesses that represent Galway and truly enjoyed it.

I always rely on Viator when I travel and have always been pleased! This tour however goes down in the books as my absolute favorite of all time!!!! Amazing value for the cost, history, amazing food and ALOT of it- not just tiny bites here and there. Our guide, Danny, was one of the absolute most passionate fun people I have ever had the joy to meet. His knowledge of history and the food scene in Galway was on point. He knew all the owners of the places we went and their beautiful stories of how they became the successful spots they were. The quality of everything we had was BEYOND!!! Great experience!!!
Marie_O, Apr 2025
Danny was a delight to be with.

This was a great tour. Sampled a lot of food as well as some coffee, wine, and whiskey. I was actually pretty full by the end of the tour. The guide was great. Very informative and friendly. We also had nice tour around the town. Highly recommend!

Claire was a warm, friendly and enthusiastic host. Visited a nice variety of places, some of the beaten track. Something different to do in our local city and enjoyed the experience.

We had a great time. Michelle was a great tour guide. The places she took us to were great. She was very knowledgeable about the area and the history and about the foods we were tasting and the drinks we were served.
Cindy_M, Oct 2024
Claire was excellent. She was knowledgeable and warm. We do a food tour in every new city and this tour exceeded our expectations with regard to variety of samplings, quality of food and volume of food. Worth every penny.
Daniel_R, Oct 2024
Rosie was wonderful! This tour is incredible- we highly recommend this to everyone! Our 16-year-old said it was her favorite part of our trip!
Tanya_S, Oct 2024
Our guide was very informative about the town of Gallway. It made it much more enjoyable walking with somebody who knew about the buildings and the people there. The food was great and the people on the tour were wonderful to talk to and get to know where they were from as well.
