We just completed a bike tour of Inisheer on the Aran Islands, and it was absolutely fantastic! Our guide, Tommy, was outstanding—friendly, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable about the island’s history and culture. He made the experience enjoyable for everyone, accommodating all ages and fitness levels with ease. My sisters and I had such a great time exploring the beautiful landscape and learning along the way. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the Aran Islands!

Caruil, Dean, and a dog named Larry

Caruil, Dean and a dog named Larry gave an amazing tour of Inisheer. Repeated efforts to frustrate Dean by going the wrong way were handled with great comeback jokes. Great guides!

Response from Host, Apr 2026

Hey Brian - Thanks for the review! Great to hear you enjoyed your Aran Islands Day Trip with ours guides - and Larry of course! We had a blast & lots of laughs with you on Inisheer! All the best!

We had a terrific experience with Phil and Cearbhuil. A manageable but bumpy surf to the Island, was followed by a smooth and enjoable ride through the countryside. Phil provide some informative details about the terrain, the history and the island people. A pint and scones to finish the trip but a wonderful cap on the day. Highly recommend as the bike ride is not too strenuous for kids 7 and above, and adults.

Simon was the absolute best tour guide. He had such a passion for the area and he was super knowledgeable.

Aran Islands bike tour.

Great tour! Guide was a lot of fun and full of interesting facts and historical knowledge. We would not have had as full an experience had we gone on our own. Highly recommend.

A great Aran Islands tour with Tommy!

Honest Opinion

Patricia_A, Sep 2025
The guide, Simon, was great! The island itself is barren but interesting. The bicycles were not in great shape and one of us even had a chain break. The ferry service to the island was great but unfortunately, the water was very rough the day we went. The bike rental company had a big sign that said to make sure to wear your helmets but they never even offered us a helmet to wear! The cafe on the island where we had tea and scones was a bit chaotic but the family that ran it was lovely. I didn’t like the scones so I ordered a chicken sandwich which took about 15 minutes to get. It took so long that I had to take it to go so as not to miss the ferry back. Overall, we did learn a bit of the island’s history and enjoyed the bike ride but it was not our favorite activity in Ireland.

Response from Host, Sep 2025

BIKE CHAIN??? ARE YOU FOR REAL? This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever… Haha, I am just kidding! Genuinely, thanks so much for sharing your honest feedback. The bikes we use are serviced regularly, but with it being sandy, the ocean air and gear changes on the island, sometimes things like a broken chain can happen. I’m glad Simon was quick to jump in, give you his eBike, and even freewheel your bike back. Though to be fair, I’ll expect him to run the island next time! 😉 As for the food, tea/coffee and scones are what’s included, and they’re usually a big hit. I get that not everything is everyone’s cup of tea though. The chicken sandwich was a custom order from the café, and I’m sorry it took so long. Trust me, I know when I’m hungry, even a 15-minute wait can feel like forever so I totally get it. I’m genuinely sorry this tour didn’t exceed your expectations. I designed it to wow people and create a seamless, fun experience. If you’re ever back in the area, please reach out to me directly. I’d love the chance to make it up to you. PS- I have addressed the helmet offering situation. Helmets must be offered to everyone so this will be super clear moving forward.

The tour is very well organised and absolutely worth joining. Within only few hours we got a great overview of the history of Inis Oírr. Our guide Sean was simply the best: friendly, funny, and always attentive. I can highly recommend this tour!

Aran must see!!!

Edward_M, Sep 2025
Was a fantastic experience Simon our guide was fantastic - fun - kind - informative! We were lucky to have 85%sun!! Use the electric assist bikes HILLS!!! Such a great day and a favorite memory!

A Vacation Favorite!

Amy_C, Jul 2025
This was one of our favorite trips of our time in Ireland! It is so quaint and we loved riding the e-bikes! Eleanor was an amazing guide giving us information we would not otherwise gotten. The shipwreck was awesome and we loved visiting the church and castle. The scones at the end of the tour were indeed the best we had! Book this trip! You won’t regret it!

Phil was a great guide...

Scott_P, Jul 2025
Phil was a great guide and made the whole adventure a lot of fun - and still actually learned a thing or two. Highly recommend Ollies and Phil as your guide. Ned’s has some of the best Guinness anywhere after biking around the Island

What a great tour. Was happy they also had electric bikes because there were lots of hills. Simon was a fantastic guide.

Sean is the best guide ever!

Louise_D, Jun 2025
We had the best day thanks to Sean! He made our day! We biked around a picture perfect landscape and saw many interesting things. The ship wreck was amazing and I especially loved chatting to a local over a delicious scone. Thanks Sean for the best memories!

Great way to see Inis Oirr

Loriel_D, Jun 2025
Great way to see the smallest of the Aran Islands. It was nice to have everything pre-prepared by our guide (who was great!). Best part was getting to know the locals (Gail at Una’s Cafe is such fun and so informative). The bike ride does have a lot of hills, so if you aren’t a decent cyclist, choose the e-bike for an extra €20 or the pony and trap (which I would recommend) or the bus (if raining). None of those get you to the lighthouse, and if you take the bus or pony you’ll need to take a short walk up to see the castle. Thanks to our guide from Ollie tours for a day of laughs and leisure.

Amazing experience - a must-do!

Terri_G, Jun 2025
This tour was our favourite experience of our week-long trip to Ireland. Our tour guide, Eleanor, was amazing! So friendly and knowledgeable, and just a great human. I was a little worried about the ferry ride over to the island as I am prone to seasickness, but even on a fairly blustery day, it was completely fine and I had no issues. The trip is only about 15 minutes long and very comfortable. The cycling was so fun - a little challenging on the hills here and there for this 58-year-old :) but all manageable. Eleanor was more than happy to wait at the top of the hill if you wanted to walk your bike to the top. There were nice little breaks at each of the historical site stops, too, where you could catch your breath. The history of the island and all of the sights we saw were incredible, and the tea & scones at the end were absolutely delicious. What an amazing spot to visit. I would love to go again sometime. Thank you so much for an amazing tour!!

Aran Islands - Well Worth the Trip

Craig_K, Jun 2025
Unfortunately the weather was too bad to ride E bikes, ended up doing walking tour. Love the island, the people there, and our guide. Simone was very knowledgeable and great to travel with. We were just happy to make the 20 minute ferry ride there, the water was pretty rough that day.

Highly recommend

Tricia_E, Jun 2025
The people were incredibly kind and accommodating (the weather was wet and raw), and we learned lots from Tommy, our guide, as well as the locals who helped make the experience memorable and fun. The island is beautiful and unique. So glad we made the trip!

Not for the faint hearted

Julie_H, May 2025
This was a fun trip! Make sure you’re able to fearlessly ride a bike with skinny tires, up and down steep hills though!! It’s not for the faint hearted! It was a bit expensive, compared to the actual ferry ride round trip. Sophia was our guide and she was very attentive.

The tour of Inisheer was...

Daniel_C, May 2025
The tour of Inisheer was wonderful, and our guide Phil was a wealth of knowledge. We were unfortunate to be hit with rain, and so, we weren't able to ride the bikes. Despite this, Phil was flexible and made accommodations to make the most of the situation. The part I found most impressive was the labyrinth of stone walls all over the landscape. It was also nice to sit at the café and pick the brains of Phil and one of the locals. They were very 'salt of the earth' folks.

Best day ever

SaraE, May 2025
Highly recommend this tour! Sofia was our guide and she was very friendly & knowledgeable about the island. All of the sites she brought us to were super interesting. The scones at the end were actually really great (I don’t usually enjoy scones otherwise). We rode regular bikes (not e-bikes) and it was a very easy ride. Sofia also recommended a great place in doolin for lunch after the tour and it was incredible. We all had so much fun!!

Tommy is the best!

🚲 A wholesome & cozy adventure! ☕

Ashley_B, Jan 2025
This tour was our favorite part of our trip to Ireland! Ollie was a fantastic guide and incredibly accommodating an ambitious postpartum mom and my six month old infant. We definitely lagged behind the crowd a bit due to some issues adjusting the infant in the wagon, but we felt so welcome and relaxed as we wandered up and down the island. Absolutely loved the tea and scones at the end and was utterly charmed by recipe swapping! The ferry was a great bit of fun - a few choppy waves across the Atlantic and a great source of wonder for me and my child. Ollie even gave us the hat off his own head. We sport our "Foolin' in Doolin" hat nearly every chilly day in Sweden. If we make it back to Galway, we're heading back out on Ollie's Tours!

Thanks so much for the review, very glad to hear that you had fun on the Aran Islands tour! The islands may be remote, but the memories you make there stay close forever!

Great bike tour with fun guide

Daniel_T, Oct 2024
Super fun day on Inisheer with our guide, Sophia! The ferry ride was a bit rough, so I suggest riding in the back outside if you’re prone to seasickness. Was far worse than normal winds, they said. The biking was easy with standard bikes, even for our 7 year old (although to be fair, we bike often). There were lots of stops and only 2 big hills. The historical sites were impressive, and the cafe was great fun.

Memorable in so many ways!

Angela_K, Oct 2024
Wonderful day with our excellent tour guide Sofia! Enjoyable bike ride- no e bike needed. Sofia was mindful of each of us and our abilities. Gorgeous scenery and memorable ferry ride looking at the Cliffs of Moher. Loved stopping at the cafe for local history and the best scone I’ve ever had. This was a great day!

Great Tour!

Great day trip

Great day!! Tommy led us on a wonderful tour of the island. The tea and scones were delicious and topped off with stories.

Nice Island, nice Tour Operators

Jim_F, Sep 2024
Sub-contractor was Ollie’s Tours. We met Ollie but were placed in overflow group with 4 little kids and their parents who were in lala-land. They should have taken the horse buggy. Why isn’t there a cut off age or separate group for little bike riders? One kid stopped short on her bike, which caused my wife to avoid and crash into a stone wall, drawing a little blood on her hand. No one else witnessed it, no big deal, but really annoying. Our tour operator, I think her name was Elenor was very nice and gave a great bike tour of Island. Island was very beautiful and the tea and scones were awesome.
