Make your way to Fox Glacier town for a 30-minute helicopter tour. Board the helicopter, strap in, then lift off above Fox Glacier, which stretches for 8.1 miles (13 km) through Westland Tai Poutini National Park.
You’ll see ice falls and rock falls from above, and get aerial views of the glacier’s path down the valley. Keep flying towards Franz Josef Glacier—named after the then-Emperor of Austria when a German explorer spotted it in 1865—and touch down on a snowfield to throw some glacier snowballs and take the selfies of a lifetime.
Take to the air again for the return flight to Fox Glacier, where this tour concludes at the original departure point.

Fantastics !! helicopter glacier trip for our family. However we miss to landing on glacier because of the weather.

An amazing experience for both us and the kids. Unfortunately the weather meant we could only complete the shorter Fox Glacier flight but the views were stunning and the ability to jump out at the top and have the kids touch snow for the first time was absolutely priceless. Highly recommended.

We did not get to go on this flight due to the weather changing an hour before we were due to fly. The lady in the office offered for us to transfer our flight to Queenstown as that was where we were heading. She did not offer to book the flight for us which was disappointing. We rang Queenstown ourselves and were able to get a flight booked there. This flight went ahead with no trouble and was great. Weather was fine, scenery was amazing and the pilot was very informative about what we were able to see from the air.
After talking to others it seems a lot of flights over the glaciers don't go ahead due to poor weather but at least we were able to make use of the flight voucher elsewhere a couple of days later

Weather is always the key issue for this great trip. It happens or it doesn't. We tried it three years ago and never made it up, but did, at last, this time. Morning flights are more likely to be get the right weather than later in the day, and ours left at 8am. Fantastic trip up onto Fox Glacier for a photo opportunity landing amazing, amazing views then a sweeping flight over Franz Josef Glacier before the return to our start point. The 30 minute trip isn't cheap, but, in our view, it's worth every penny. Highlight of our trip to NZ.
