Done did Dunedin!

Robert_E, Mar 2026
We prefer a very small group for our excursions when possible, and this one rates right up at the top! When the day started, we were sad that is was cloudy, quite cool, and rainy, but we learned that when the weather is bad for people, it can be very good for the animals! We were fortunate enough to get tickets to both the penguin and albatross tours, and both were nothing short of amazing! The price is not cheap, but we got our money’s worth for sure.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Thank you for your lovely review. We’re so pleased to hear that you enjoyed the private tour experience. A private tour allows for much more flexibility with the itinerary and is an efficient way to fit as much as possible into the day while still keeping the experience relaxed and personal. You’re absolutely right about the weather too! While it may not always feel ideal for us, cooler and rainy conditions can often be perfect for wildlife activity, so it’s wonderful that it worked in your favour. We’re also glad that you contacted us in advance to express your interest in adding additional experiences, such as the guided albatross and penguin tours at the OPERA. On some cruise ship days these tours can sell out, so arranging them ahead of time helps ensure everything runs smoothly. We’re pleased you were able to join both wildlife tours and that they were such a highlight of your day.

Asta, the best guide in NZ.

John_B, Jan 2026
Asta, our guide, is an immigrant to NZ from the Baltic with her husband from Italy. They have 2 teenage boys and have lived in Dunedin for about 20 years. She is well informed about the culture, social mores and economy. She is also very approachable and friendly. We loved her and are grateful.

Response from Host, Jan 2026

Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful feedback. It was a real pleasure spending time with you and sharing Dunedin and New Zealand from a local perspective. I’m very glad you felt comfortable, welcomed, and well looked after during the tour. Your words truly mean a lot, and I’m grateful you chose to explore with us. Wishing you all the very best in your travels.

Perfect Private Tour!

Susan_A, Dec 2025
We had an amazing day with Asta driving us around this beautiful city and region. She was very knowledgable about the area which really helped us understand the culture and geology of the area. We were able to customize the trip to see the things that most interested us, including the amazing Botanic Gardens, the railway station, the Otago Peninsula, and the Worlds Steepest Street, which 5/6 of us walked! We stopped for lunch in town and it was easy to communicate with her when our lunch took a little longer than expected. Highly Recommend!

Response from Host, Dec 2025

Thank you, Susan, for your feedback. I’m very glad to hear you had a great time in Dunedin. By choosing a private tour, you were able to make the day truly special—customising the itinerary to suit your group’s interests and enjoying plenty of flexibility with stops, lunch, and the pace of the day. We genuinely believe that a private tour, exclusive to your group, is the best way to experience Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula—especially when you only have one day in the city.

Good “highlights” tour

shannon_m, Dec 2025
The Albatross experience is an additional reservation and fee despite the advertisement. Otherwise our driver was friendly, knowledgeable and entertaining.

Response from Host, Dec 2025

Thank you for your feedback. Our private tour, exclusive to groups of up to six people, includes a driver-guide, a vehicle, and an itinerary covering Dunedin city highlights, Otago Peninsula scenery via high road and inlets and low road , and free time at the Albatross Centre. The tour description states that any attraction entry fees are additional, such as Larnach Castle entry, guided tours at the Albatross Centre, or guided tours at the OPERA. These optional activities can be chosen on the day; however, availability is limited—especially on cruise ship days—so it’s helpful if you let us know in advance if you would like to include any wildlife options. We’re glad to hear you enjoyed your driver-guide and found him knowledgeable, entertaining, and friendly, and we will pass on your kind words to him.

Wonderful day with John

Stacey_K, Nov 2025
We had such a wonderful day with John as our guide. He was very kind and really tailored the day to meet our expectations.

Response from Host, Nov 2025

Thank you, Stacey, for your feedback. We are pleased to hear that John delivered everything we pride ourselves on providing to our visitors. Private tours are truly the best way to experience Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula if you prefer an itinerary tailored to your group’s interests and value flexibility. We will be sure to pass your kind words on to John.

Nice day!

Gail_W, Apr 2025
We did this tour for cruise ship excursion. Varied stops which was nice. Very enjoyable even though albatross didn’t cooperate due to low winds! Astra was a very pleasant enjoyable guide, very receptive to how we wanted to structure our day. Clean comfortable vehicle

Response from Host, Nov 2025

Thank you for your feedback! We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed your private tour and felt it was a great way to explore Dunedin. The flexibility of a private experience really does allow the day to flow at your own pace, and we’re glad it worked so well for you.

Lovely tour around...

Leslie_C, Jan 2025
Lovely tour around Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula. Packed in an overview of the city highlights, had lunch/coffee at a local cafe, and spent the afternoon driving out to the peninsula. Enjoyed a quick stop at the railway station, walked up the steepest street in the world, enjoyed a stroll through the botanic gardens, visited the u I resort, and drove through the historic cemetery.Stunning scenery and lots of wildlife (birds) along the way. Asta, our guide was pleasant and knowledgeable.

Response from Host, Jan 2025

I really appreciate your feedback! It was a pleasure to guide you around Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula, and I'm so glad you enjoyed exploring the city highlights and the stunning landscapes along the way. I'm happy you had the chance to experience so many of Dunedin's iconic spots, from the steepest street in the world to the Botanic Gardens and the historic cemetery. I truly appreciate your feedback, and it was wonderful to have you on the tour. Wishing you all the best in your travels.

Friendly and informative...

PeyShan_C, Jan 2025
Friendly and informative tour guide. We were on a cruise and it’s was a easy way to see the city, especially traveling with elderly.

Response from Host, Jan 2025

Thank you so much for your feedback! We’re so glad to hear that you enjoyed the tour and found it easy to explore the city, especially while traveling with elderly family members. It’s always our goal to make the experience comfortable and enjoyable for everyone, and we’re happy to have been part of your journey. We hope you have wonderful memories of Dunedin

Not so clean vehicles used

Feifei_H, Feb 2024
Tour guy was fine and experienced, but the vehicle - van was old, dirty and with strong cigarette smoke smell. We (5) paid non refundable of $800+ for the day tour, don’t feel we’re deserved to sit in such dirty, smelly van all day… We have two more tours booked with Viator in New Zealand after this one. Really hope the experience can be better from now on…

Response from Host, Feb 2024

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear about your experience with the van. It is illegal to smoke inside the vehicle in NZ and it is very rare that anyone would smoke in NZ in general, so we are not sure why you experienced the strong cigarette smell. We will investigate that. On extremely busy days when 2 big or even more cruise ships come to Dunedin we occasionally hire vehicles to accommodate our customers. We will look into not accepting any extra bookings on these busy days so we don't need to rely on rental vehicles as the state of them is out of our control.

Great tour of Dunedin and the wildlife

Lisa_F, Dec 2023

Dunedin private tour

Janet_F, Jan 2023
Very knowledgeable driver and host who was more than willing to cater for our requests. Would highly recommend this tour and Asta.

Response from Host, Jan 2023

Thank you, Janet. It was pleasure to have you and your friends on our tour.

Great Tour with a Wonderful Guide

Henry_F, Jan 2023
This private tour was excellent. Our guide, whose name I believe was Asta, was wonderful. She was kind, knowledgeable, and customized our day "on the fly." The city is interesting and worth exploring. Be sure to head out to the peninsula to see the albatross refuge.

Response from Host, Jan 2023

Thank you. I couldn't agree more! Visiting Otago Peninsula and including a stop at Albatross centre is a must!

Beautiful day in Dunedin

sandra_m, Jan 2023
Asta, our tour guide was awesome. She mapped a seven hour tour for us, highlighting the best of Dunedin but she was extremely flexible. When we mentioned we would like to put our feet in the ocean she drove us to a beach so we could do that. She was pleasant, knowledgeable and the best tour guide we had in New Zealand. I highly recommend this private tour. We did see an Albatross and absolutely loved the peninsula.

Response from Host, Jan 2023

Thank you. It is so nice to hear you enjoyed Dunedin and Otago Peninsula, it is hard not to fall in love with this area. It was my pleasure to stop at the beach on such a hot day.

Best decision made! 👏

Kevin_L, Dec 2022
Our tour guide Heike was super friendly and was here on time, there waiting when we got off the cruise ship. She was very knowledgeable and was very patient with our family (group of 8 with different age group). Very accommodating and kept our schedule on track! Very grateful to have met her and was happy with our decision of using this tour service! Only hindsight from our own planning pov was should have opted for the castle tour rather than the penguin tour.

Response from Host, Dec 2022

Thank you, Kevin for your feedback. Fully-guided tours exclusively for you and your traveling companions offer lots of flexibility and it is great to hear you were pleased with choosing a private tour with us. I will pass on to Heike your kind words.

Amazing day with Asta

Anne_L, Nov 2022
Asta was our guide and she did an excellent job on our cruise stop in Dunedin. Our tour stopped at many fabulous sites Asta was very informative and her knowledge of Dunedin and it's history added to our experience. She was very flexible and attentive, we had a lovely day with her.

Response from Host, Nov 2022

Thank you, Anne. Dunedin offers so much, it was my pleasure to show you as much as I could in one day.

Versatile touring made easy

Gary_T, Mar 2019
From the moment we met Julie at Port Chalmers it was about maximising our time in Dunedin. The tour and Julie’s expert local knowledge made the day enjoyable. With three generations in the minibus everything was done to ensure all had a great day. Grandad did have to buy a Kakapo puppet as granddaughter took a shine to Julie’s puppet. All in all extremely satisfied with this tour.

This was a great tour off the beaten...

James L, Mar 2018
This was a great tour off the beaten path. The tour guide, Asta, loves the area and showed us what she found to be the best. Very personalized, excellent pace, and easily tweaked to meet our wishes.
