Really enjoyable tour travelling on tuk tuk, auto bicycle, metro, and boat! Seeing some very interesting parts of the city that aren’t on the main tourist trail. Afridi was great, very interesting and very friendly - he was happy to do lots of walking which was great for me. It was a long and tiring day with lots of Dhaka travel but that’s to be expected. Overall very enjoyable!

Really enjoyed this tour of Dhaka with our excellent guide and driver. Mahadi showed us so much we would never have explored on our own, starting with a long walk through Kawran Bazar, and he shared a lot about Bangladesh's history and contemporary politics. This is very much unlike a walking tour of historical sites somewhere like Delhi - you do see the university, remains of Fort Lalbagh, and such, but it was more of a local tour of the city. Doing this on a Saturday was a nice way to avoid some traffic and crowd.

Great way to explore old dhaka

Troels_L, Feb 2026
Had the pleasure of having Jerry as my local tour guide. It was such a fun day and Jerry navigated all stressfullness of Dhaka with no hasle. Great English and able to answer all my questions. Would definitely go again.

A perfectly nice tour, but not up to the expectations set by 5 star reviews.

Linda_E, Feb 2026
We were disappointed by this tour after all the great reviews we read. Partly that will be high expectations are hard to meet. Don't come to Old Dhaka thinking its sites will be on a par with Old Delhi, Lahore, Rajasthan, etc. The Mughal empires left more impressive remains other places. There's not much to see here and what there is remains poorly maintained. But we knew this wouldn't rival India or Pakistan in sites. I think the bigger disappointment was the guide we were assigned was likely not nearly as good as the ones other travellers rave about. None of our booking confirmations gave us the start time of the tour, and our guide Kamal did not leave a message at our hotel nor text us to tell us when he would pick us up. It would have been much nicer to have certainty when we checked into the hotel the night before the tour and to be ready when he arrived at 7:15AM. Kamal was very nice, but his English skills were limited. His accent was harder to understand than other Bangladeshis we talked to, and I am guessing the reason he didn't impart much information was because he didn't have the vocabulary as he often seemed to not understand what we were saying. Fortunately, now with ChatGPT, you can get all the information you want on most sites instantly when you are looking at them if you have enough data. Kamal also seemed more interested in fishing for help on immigrating to the US than telling us about Bangladesh. He told me multiple times that he was getting his second masters degree and wanted to get a visa to work in the US and also how he wanted to find an American woman to marry so he could move to the US. Kamal also continued to try to upsell us to hiring him to take us around the whole country of Bangladesh after we had told him we were just doing a weekend trip to Dhaka to see the highlights of the capital and flying out the next morning. It was also disappointing to have my husband's brand new iPhone I'd given him for his birthday pickpocketed in the first place we visited (the Kawran Bazar). We were able to track the phone for a while but the thief turned the phone off after we started calling it to hear a ringer. Kamal insisted on going to the police station promising it would only take 5-10 minutes, and we wasted over an hour of our time. It was only after the phone was stolen that he started watching out for pickpockets and pointing them out to us.

Response from Host, Feb 2026

Dear Linda, Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We truly value guests who openly describe their experience. Our tour, “Explore Dhaka in a Local Way,” is designed to showcase the real, everyday life of Dhaka — its markets, transport systems, neighborhoods, and living culture. Old Dhaka is one important part of the experience, but the heart of the tour is understanding how the city functions today. Dhaka offers a very different atmosphere compared to cities known for grand preserved Mughal monuments, and we understand that this difference can influence expectations. We take your comments regarding the guide’s conduct very seriously. Our guides are expected to remain fully professional and focused on sharing Bangladesh’s culture and daily life. Personal discussions unrelated to the tour or repeated upselling after a guest has declined do not reflect our standards. Following an internal review, we have taken necessary action, as we are proud of our guide team and committed to maintaining a high level of professionalism. Regarding Kawran Bazar, it is a busy wholesale market that represents the true rhythm of Dhaka. As part of our standard procedure, guests are briefed in the vehicle before arrival to remain mindful of personal belongings, as is common practice when visiting crowded markets anywhere in the world. We are very sorry that despite these precautions, the unfortunate phone incident occurred. When this happened, our immediate priority was to assist you. We attempted to help locate the device and accompanied you to the police station because filing a report is the only official process available for recovery attempts or insurance documentation. We understand how stressful and disappointing that situation must have been. Your feedback is important to us. It helps us continue refining our standards and communication. We remain committed to delivering authentic, transparent, and professionally guided experiences that reflect the real Dhaka — with care and respect for every guest. Warm regards, Mahadi Hasan Management Team

Fantastic tour of a vibrant and unique city

Atilla_O, Dec 2025
An amazing experience from start to finish. My guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and made the city come alive with history, culture, and great local insights. We explored Old Dhaka, tasted authentic food, and discovered hidden spots I’d never find on my own. Everything felt well-organized, safe, and enjoyable. I travel and explore a lot and I can safely say this tour is something very unique, vibrant, authentic and different from your typical tour you see in other parts of the world. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Dhaka — truly a memorable and worthwhile experience! 🙌

Gritty Dhaka in Constant Motion, Except for Paralyzing Traffic

Patrick_W, Jul 2025
Our guides helped us truly see the city. We sampled every mode of transport and survived. This tour is not for the faint of heart. Dhaka is a city that pulses with life, often teetering on the edge of chaos. It’s densely packed, with streets that thrum with honking horns, tangled traffic, and a constant stream of people. The air can feel thick with dust, fumes/exhaust, and the scent of street food sizzling all together on every corner. Infrastructure struggles to keep up with the sheer volume of its population, leading to visible wear, congestion, and uneven development. In many ways, Dhaka reflects the resilience and hustle of its people — a place where order and disorder coexist. Its visual landscape is raw and unpolished, often gritty, with layers of history, poverty, and improvisation stitched together in a hurried patchwork. Yet, despite its disorder, the city has a vibrancy, a tenacity — a sort of unfiltered urban reality that is both overwhelming and unforgettable.

Monsoon Magic with Jerry

Jules_Y, Jul 2025
Booked last minute due to monsoon worries, but Jerry made it absolutely worthwhile. As a local Bangladeshi, he navigated Dhaka’s chaos with ease and brought the city to life through rich stories and genuine warmth. Hidden gems and bustling markets, every stop felt thoughtfully chosen. Despite the rain, Jerry’s energy and planning kept the experience smooth and enjoyable. Highly recommend for anyone hesitant about touring Dhaka, especially during monsoon. Jerry will change your mind!

Afridi was an exceptional guide!!

Kyle_H, Jun 2025
Our guide Afridi was one of the best guides we’ve ever had (we have been to 85 countries and used guides in most of them). He was an encyclopedia of knowledge, perfect English, talkative, knew the answers to all our questions, and was very engaging. The tour was jammed packed with a lot of interesting and fun stops. HIGHLY recommend this tour & Afridi.

Wonderful tour with the best guide

Peter_A, Feb 2025
Amazing experience with Hasan. An intense day with a lot of walking and rickshaws. I really got a feel for both Old and New Dahka including hidden gems but most of all, I got to meet the friendliest people, always a smile on everyone i met during the day.

Best experience in years! (Full-time traveler)

Tim_P, Jan 2025
We booked the tour last minute and minutes later we got confirmation from our guide Afridi he would pick us up at our hotel the next morning. I have been on many tours in uncountable countries but this was definitely an exception in excellence. Afridi was very kind and explained us every detail about anything on the route or things we wanted to know. He looked after us all the time and we felt very comfortable in this quite chaotic city. We went to the early market which has an extended part on the rail tracks, the university, did a rickshaw ride, the pink museum and did an amazing boat tour on the river. If I were you and you’re looking for a tour in Dhaka, this tour has it alI, it shows you the real Dhaka and you’ll feel you’re part of daily life in the capital of Bangladesh. Highly recommendable and a huge thanks to our lovely guide!

Bangladesh tour as the local lives

Casserini_M, Dec 2024
That was a very interesting walking tour to see the real life in this chaotic overfilled city. You will visit some typical tourist places but most of the time you are walking through markets. The guide took care of me in a very professional matter and we had a very delicious lunch in a typical restaurant. A must of getting feeling about the size and life in this city. you will be tired at the evening if you return to the hotel

Explore Dhaka like a local

YoungGon_K, Nov 2024
Dhaka city may not seem like an easy city to travel to for first-time visitors. But you can't just stay in the hotel all day. This tour allowed me to explore the city and taste local food. The tour with a friendly guide Raihan was a great opportunity to experience another side of Dhaka city.

Tour with Mr. Shovon

Yudi_S, Nov 2024
Mr. Shovon is my tour guide. He coming on time for the tour. He doing his job very well. He guide me to many places in Dhaka. The place we visited are so many, even more than it written in the schedule. The food for lunch is very good. I really like the fish curry. Thank you for everything. I really recommend this tour for everyone.

Great guide! But be careful of your belongings

Catherine_D, Aug 2024
Walking the streets and colourful rickshaws and generally very friendly people as tourists are somewhat unusual here. Jerri the guide was both knowledgeable and kind...and very helpful when my phone was sadly stolen. It could have happened anywhere in the world but he was most helpful and i felt safe with him...despite the traffic chaos on the street

Incredible experience 🤍

Oumayma_L, Jul 2024
I was skeptical about this at the beginning but still decided to give it a chance. I was very positively surprised by how nice my tour guide was, he picked me up from my hotel and took me around the city, he speaks perfect English and made me feel safe throughout the whole trip. As a solo female traveler it’s not always easy to find reliable tours, but I honestly cannot recommend this one enough if you want to see this incredible city through the eyes of locals. Thank you so much Afridi (my lovely tour guide) for sharing this experience with me. It was definitely a day that will stay in my memory forever 🫶🏽

Bangladesh Eco Adventures - Go Local! One of the most amazing tours I have ever been on.

Rene_M, May 2024
When I was researching tours in Dhaka, I had a feeling this tour was going to be a winner as it seemed that it was going to really allow me to "feel" the city and experience how people live real life here. Wow - was I right. This tour was one of the most amazing tours I have ever been on. Mahadi, who designed this type of tour, took me everywhere!. He places a lot of value on really seeing how life is lived in Dhaka. So, with that, he and I set off in rickshaws and visited early morning food and tool markets, flower markets, ship repair yards, mosques, schools, hindu zones, local restaurants, and memorials that showcased significant events in Bangladesh's history. I learned so much about the different jobs and ways of life in this densely populated city. I would never have seen this on my own. Mahadi and I were able to discuss so many things as we went along which contributed greatly to my understanding of Bangladesh and its people. I really valued our discussions alot. In summary, this was simply an outstanding day for me and through this experience I feel that I made huge progress in achieving what I came to Bangladesh for - to gain some understanding of the diversity, culture and way of life here. Huge thank you to Mahadi and Bangladesh ECO Adventure for this day. I highly recommend this tour for anyone adventurous looking for the same.

Great day with the best guide!

Cannot say enough how great the day was! Afridi, my guide, arrived on time at 8am and spent the whole day with me showing me around local areas and sights. He is extremely knowledgeable of the history, the culture and the important facts about the country. His english was very very good and he was very attentative and protective. He suggested a great place for biriani and we had lunch at the Old Town of Dhaka together! Cannot recomend him enough! Great work and looking forward to explore the Sundarbans together on my next visit!!

Best tour in Dhaka

Daryna_T, Dec 2022
We liked everything! Our guide was a really nice guy, who gave us a whole understanding of Bangladesh culture, traditions and history. The tour is flexible so we can add and skip some places. The best part is boat ride! It was amazing. Also, nice point that we were moving around with comfortable car with AC and driver. 10/10 recommended

A perfectly-paced and well-balanced exploration of Dhaka

Alistair_T, Oct 2022
Perfect. Azim is a friendly and knowledgable guide who knows how to adapt a tour to suit a client's preferences. My tour was confirmed the night before, Azim arrived on time, the driver was excellent, and the tour delivered much more than I expected. I always felt comfortable and relaxed, we moved at my pace, Azim provided interesting background and history, and I felt immersed in Dhaka life.

Great authentic experience!

Andrew_T, Oct 2022
Great tour! Mahadi was very informative, flexible, read exactly what I wanted out of the experience and delivered it. He also had all the answers to my questions about the history and culture of the region. Would recommend to everyone wanting an authentic experience around the city!

Once in a lifetime tour! Highly recommended!

Jamila_H, Jun 2022
This tour was the highlight of our trip. Our guide Afridi was one of the main reasons we fell in love with the city and its people. He is professional, knowledgeable, friendly, respectful and considerate. Even in the most crowded areas he made us feel safe. I asked for an early morning pick up (7.30 AM) and they arrived on the dot. I also requested to swap out a location and they happily researched and organized everything in advance for us. The chauffeur was very friendly as well and kept the conversation alive with Afridi. They had the AC going even before we got in the car which was a blessing in the summers heat. The food we had was amazing! Not only is Old Dhaka definitely a foodie's paradise, it also has the nicest people I've come across in my travels. I highly recommend booking this tour with Afridi!

The best way to visit the city, highly recommended!

Luca_L, Jun 2022
Really interesting! I believe it's the best possible way to visit and understand the city. very knowledgeable guide who speaks an excellent English. Absolutely recommended!
