We had such a lovely afternoon with Kieran, exploring Cobh’s rich history, on a day with perfect weather, no less. We were very lucky to have been the only two on that particular tour, so it felt like a private one! Kieran came with so much knowledge and facts you might find hard to believe (especially if you’re visiting from another country). He never missed an opportunity to answer questions or tell us fun stories while we walked between sites. We really appreciated the entire experience and learned so much, we found ourselves chatting about all of our newfound knowledge on the way back to our hotel. It’s certainly a tour you’ll need to catch if you’re headed to Cobh. Thank you for making our afternoon so interesting, Kieran!

This walking tour gave us an incredible history of Cork, and particularly how Cobh has played such an enormous part in the Irish resistance over the years. Our guide was not only knowledgeable and entertaining, but he also engaged us throughout the tour in unexpected ways. We went into neighborhoods and learned about some of the historic residents of the areas.
We thoroughly enjoyed this tour and cannot recommend it enough. Thank you so much!

Very informative and engaging. Kieran artfully unfolded a very complex history as we walked through the town. His engaging stories - as colorful as the houses of Barrack street - brought history alive. Highly recommended tour!

Our guide, Kieran, took us on a fascinating journey through Ireland's history, its relationship with England, and the various aspects of the rebel movement in a very vivid way. We learned a great deal of interesting things and recommend the tour to anyone who wants to learn more about the origins of the Irish resistance, whose impact is still visible today.

The guide was very knowledgeable and was able to answer our questions along the way. He shared the history of the Irish struggle for independence as it connected to specific events, locations and people of Cobh. Very interesting!
Deanna_M, Jul 2025
The guide was excellent and very knowledgeable about the history of not only Cork itself, but Ireland and the Irish struggle for independence. Touring the sites around town was very good and I got some great pictures.

We met right at the port and walked around a bit of the town. It should be noted that Cobh is quite hilly and there are a lot of steps up and down hills. Our guide was very informative and we learned many things about Irish history.
Response from Host, Jun 2025
i hope you found the easy pace the tour guide set out for you ok. hills and steps are a challenge but we like to feel we have worked out the most easiest route that is a pleasure to walk and to take in the beautiful sights and all the information that kieran has for you, we are happy you enjoyed you time with us,

Kieran was an excellent guide. His knowledge of Irish history was amazing to hear. This tour would be for history lovers who do not have any mobility issues as stairs and walking was involved. Thanks for a great tour, Kieran!

We had a nice walk through Cobh while listening to our guide talk about the struggle for Irish independence. Learned a lot.
The town has a lot of hills and there are over 100 steps up the side of a hill when we started the tour. It would have been nice to understand that when decided to book this tour.
Response from Host, Jun 2025
if you had told the guide that the steps were a problem he would have walked a way along the town and up to the top of the steps. the view from the top is outstanding though isn't it, we hope you had a great day in Cobh,

We found the guided tour to be a very informative, engaging and authentic experience. We learned about the major events that shaped Ireland and the country’s struggle to achieve independence, and of the individuals and groups who bravely paved the
way to a positive future. Seeing important landmarks was interesting and consolidated our experience.

I expected a walk along the quay with the guide telling stories about how the Titanic sailed from Queenstown and how the Lusitania was torpedoed nearby, but that's not what we got. Instead, we got a fascinating story about Ireland's struggle for independence. We heard more about the sinking of the Aud, a German ship smuggling arms for the 1916 rebellion, than we did about the Titanic. Kieran brought the Irish shanachie's storytelling art to his performance as a tour guide. We roved through the town, stopping here and there while he wove his tales of what ambush happened on this spot, or what happened to the resident of that house who was taken for a collaborator. It really brought the events of over 100 years ago back to life.
Response from Host, May 2025
it is always a pleasure to watch my guest reaction and faces as the tour progresses across and up through Cobh. Yes we have much more to offer than The Titanic. Cobh has many layers. thank you the pleasure was mine.

One on one experience which was great. Extremely knowledgeable guide and made the whole tour fun. Highly recommend to anyone coming to Cobh. Two hours well spent!

Excellent. Great background and history of the establishment of the republic of Ireland. Small group, with personal attention, detailing the local activities of the Cobh people and their fight for self representation.

Was a real pleasure to have Kieran relay with a great passion, the history of Cobh, a fabulous story teller really has you feeling and seeing the ghosts of the past as he recounts incidents that shaped Cobh's history in the fight for and Independant Ireland. Highly recommended and terrific guide.
Alan_C, Sep 2024
Kieran is a great guide and made his "story telling" very interesting. Yiu can tell he enjoys what he does.
Cindy_K, Aug 2024
Our guide was very knowledgeable about Irish history. Be prepared for lots of uphill walking and stairs. Enjoyed it very much!
Helen_W, Jun 2024
Kieran was an excellent guide. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic with a mountain of good local stories that you won't find in the history books. He really brought the history of Cobh to life. Very good value.

Kiernan was fabulous. An incredible amount of knowledge and he shared it in a way that you could picture the events happening on the streets you were standing on. Having little details - such as the house of a woman who helped the rebels was not only burned down, but the Black and Tans did it the day she was away burying her father — made the tour much more than recitation of events. I would highly recommend to anyone— you will be swept away by Ireland’s fight for independence and the role of Cobh
Kerry_M, Apr 2024
You would expect an Irishman to weave tales worth listening to, but our guide Kieran far surpassed my expectations! Rather than a litany of dates and names, we heard personal stories about Cobh characters from the 18th century through independence in the early 20th! One of the best historical tours I have ever taken!
MARY_H, Mar 2024
Calm was an awesome source of information and wonderful tales. He brought rebel history to life! I really enjoyed this tour.

This tour was a captivating journey through history. The extremely knowledgeable guide brought each site to life providing a deep understanding of Cobh's rich heritage. From the history of Spike Island to the civil war, every stop was an immersive experience. The passion for sharing Cobh's story made this tour an unforgettable and enlightening adventure. I highly recommend to anyone seeking a profound connection to Ireland's past.

Very good tour I would highly recommend this small group walking tour. A great historical overview was provided by the guide. My husband and I are in our late 60s and we had no problem keeping up with this tour guide. However, due to some steep hills I would not recommend this tour for people with mobility issues. Guide was interactive and answered questions.
Andrew_H, Sep 2023
The guide - Keiron - very enthusiastic & knowledgeable about his subject. Good value for money. Thank You.

We had a great walking tour around Cobh. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and brought the history of this port to life. We can a great time and cannot recommend it enough. We arrived by cruise ship into the port and if you are doing the same this walking tour is highly recommend. You meet the guide right in the port where the ship docks a matter of 5 minutes walk. This is of great benefit when you have a limited time on shore and saves having to make extra travel arrangements (& costs) to start your shore excursion. Highly recommend.
Chasity_M, Aug 2023
Excellent tour. A perfect overview of the history of Cobh. Guide was incredibly knowledgeable and made a point to go over several notable periods of Irish history. Topics included emigration to America, the Titanic disaster and the struggle for Irish independence. Meeting place is particularly easy to find if you are traveling via cruise ship. Well worth the price!
Joseph_S, May 2023
Informative and enjoyable history of the city. The houses and the streets mean something as you learn about the lives of the people.
Jacqueline_F, Sep 2022
Guide is very knowledgeable on military history of the area.
Be cautious if you have any physical limitations. The tour route contains many stairs and uphill walks. Also if it is a hot day- there is little shade. Bring hat, sunscreen and water. Tour does not go inside any buildings.
DJ_O, Jun 2022
What a FABULOUS tour! First of all, Kieran was so kind and accommodating. We were stuck in traffic that put us back by an hour. I had no expectations that we would get to hear the whole tour, but he did! We found ourselves hanging on every word. We loved hearing the Irish history coupled with American and International history. He tied together world events with local history and then showed us exactly where things happened in the town. He fielded questions from my curious 12 year old with glee and made us feel like old friends. I HIGHLY recommend this tour to anyone who enjoys history or just wants to learn more about this town and the important role it played.
