Overview
Learn to surf at Byron Bay on the world famous breaks. You may go to Byron, Lennox, or the Ballina area, depending on the conditions. Groups are small so you’ll receive lots of attention, feedback, and a guarantee that you’ll feel safe in the water. Boards used are soft, so you’ll catch lots of waves and have a great time in the process, which lasts about a half day.

This surfing lesson was amazing, except that it lasted for less than 3 hours only (it was shown as 4 hours in Viator). Thanks so much to my excellent instructor Kai, who gave very clear teachings and took good care of us as beginners. It is important to remember the movement from lying to standing on the surfboard and the posture to keep our balance when we stand up. Overall, I can’t believe how fun surfing is and I could stand up on the surfboard and ride my first wave!!😆

Just to clarify on the lesson duration—our sessions are typically 3–4 hours depending on location and conditions. Since you surfed in Byron (right across the road), there’s no travel time involved, so the total session can feel shorter. When we head to Lennox, the extra travel brings it closer to the full 4 hours.
That said, actual water time is the same across all lessons, and that’s where the real magic happens 🤙

We had a brilliant morning surfing in Byron. We even managed to stand up a few times which we were not expecting. The instructors managed the group well for everyone’s capabilities. Highly recommend whilst visiting Byron Bay!

Hey Audrien, thanks so much for your review. There's more instructors on when the groups are bigger, we teach 1:7 which is a lower ratio than the 1:8 required legally, so the size of the group shouldn't affect how many waves you get too much. Fun lesson. Great instructors. Friendly and welcoming vibe. Highly recommend for all surfing levels. Bonus was the dip in a fresh water lake naturally infused with tea tree after the lesson.

We had a great time learning to surf! The waves were pretty heavy but our instructor was encouraging and gave us tips on how to catch our own waves. The whole experiences was really relaxed and I’d definitely recommended! I would say if you have a GoPro or anything, you can definitely take it to the beach with you. We left everything on the bus as recommended but we realised later you can just leave things on the beach if you need to. They bring a photographer out with you who snaps some great photos but they are expensive - minimum of 5 photos for $25. So basically if there is more than one of you and you want photos, take your own camera!
