David is incredibly knowledgeable about the Blue Mountains, the walks and the towns. He helped us see things that you will find hard to see on any other tour because he points out things like the carnivorous plant that only grows in one location on a single rock ! He is also super accommodating when it came to our preferences and gently guided us away from the mainstream. We had an exceptional experience over the entire day. Highly recommended !

Fantastic customized tour of the Blue Mountains! Dave went out of his way to avoid crowds and show us great spots where the tour buses couldn’t go. He also ensured we had the time we wanted at each stop. Totally recommend this tour!

My husband & I have been to Australia several times but never made it out to the Blue Mountains. This visit we debated whether to rent a car or join a tour. Instead, we found the perfect solution - David with Escape Scenes offers a private tour. Rather than hassle with a busload of people vying for position at viewpoints & following a strict itinerary, we were able to share our preferences ahead of time so David could tailor the day to us. He did a fantastic job avoiding the crowds, even taking us to some spots not accessible by bus. Even though we could have accessed these places by rental car, we would not have known all the good spots to visit, we would've had to hassle with the parking (including fees at several stops), and, most importantly, we would not have a guide. A guide not only provides navigation but, more importantly, has the knowledge to make recommendations and share interesting history & facts about the area, flora, fauna & people. David does all of that with a desire to cater to your likes (or dislikes). He's very accommodating & will take photos for you along the way so you walk away with great memories & a pleasant experience!

Driver Dave fully customized our tour— he is extremely knowledgeable sharing his years of experience guiding folks through the beautiful Blue Mountains. He took us to views well off the trodden path and avoided the big bus tours of crowds. We also visited the Ferndale Animal rescue park— what a delight overall and we can’t recommend Dave and his brand new Mercedes van!

David’s Blue Mountains Escape the Crowds tour was exactly what we were seeking. Not only did we avoid the crowds; David took us to gorgeous vistas of the Three Sisters where we were unbelievably the only people there! He is a very knowledgeable guide and enjoyed sharing his knowledge of the cultural history, terrain, flora and fauna throughout the tour. We loved the flexibility of the day, as we were given choices throughout. We highly recommend this tour for anyone who doesn’t want to clump along with the tour buses and desires a personalized experience!

Visiting the Blue Mountains for a day trip with David did not disappoint! David was punctual, friendly, courteous, thoughtful, and very knowledgeable about Australia, Sydney and The Blue Mountains area. Hi car is clean and comfortable and he really went out of his way to personalize the experience for us. We visited Featherdale where we had close encounters with the animals, we took a gorgeous hike up Wentworth Falls and saw the famous Three Sisters as David regaled us with myths, legends and geological facts about how they were formed. We enjoyed a wonderful pub lunch and poked through a quirky local town. David is wonderful - we highly recommend his SUV tour!

We had a fantastic tour to the Blue Mountains with our guide, David. From the moment he picked us up at our hotel, right on time, his professionalism and knowledge were evident. He gave us insightful commentary on the region and vegetation. His flexibility with timing allowed us to explore the area at our own pace. David made sure we saw all the designated spots and accommodated our request to be dropped off at Circular Quay. It was a smooth and enjoyable experience, and we highly recommend him to anyone visiting the Blue Mountains!

This private tour gave us an opportunity to customize our day, with a stop in a town called Glenbrook and to the tourist information center there. We were able to stop at places that were not very crowded and the driver was knowledgable about the birds that we came across. The tour itself of the Blue Mountains was good. The downside to this tour was that there was no speaker system in the car, so it was difficult to hear what the driver was saying at times. On a private tour with another company the day before, the driver put on a head set that amplified throughout the back of the van so her voice was crystal clear to us in the back seat. However, with this private tour, the outside road noise heard inside the car was loud because this was a smaller Toyota SUV. My friend said it was very uncomfortable in the back passenger seat since we were sitting for long periods of time. The picture of the vehicle is on the site, which looks like a large SUV, but it is nothing close to it. It was definitely not a luxury SUV by any means. Bottom line, if you're looking for flexibility in your sightseeing day, this driver can do it. However, if you're expecting a luxury SUV to tour in, this is not the tour for you.

Escape Scenes are a family owned Business and all tours are owner-operated. We take a great deal of pride in delivering personalised Aussie hospitality to our guests.
I’m glad you enjoyed some aspects of the day such as the town visits and wildlife we found on our walks, upon the conclusion of the tour we parted ways in a positive way as I was confident your tour was a successful one.
However, in this instance we feel the need to address some of your concerns which appear to be untrue or perhaps misunderstood and hope you could reconsider the 3 star rating as this is the lowest we’ve received thus far.
Speaker System
In a vehicle this size, a speaker is not required as guests are seated directly behind the driver. You mentioned the day prior in the back seat of a van, perhaps a van requires a microphone due to their size, however not in this vehicle. We always found its necessary with larger vehicles such as coaches vans etc. However there would also be a degree of disconnection taking away the personalisation of direct conversation. The vehicle volume is generally quiet and noise issues have never been a problem in the past.
‘Very uncomfortable’
I’m sorry your friend was uncomfortable, I’ve always found the back seats to be quite comfortable and roomy as do my other clients. At no point was this mentioned during the day, had this been brought to my attention I would have been happy to stop or otherwise find a way of making her comfortable. Even placing her in the front seat if necessary. I understand her mobility wasn’t great and I was happy to provide assistance where necessary on the walks and opening the door for her upon return to the vehicle. I will always try to care for my clients and as a personalised service am always there to assist.
‘Large SUV, But Nothing Close To It’
Our vehicle description shows as a 2018 Toyota Highlander/Kluger. This is the actual vehicle used with the ‘escape’ plates. We do not have access to other vehicles, our advertising is correct and accurate regarding our vehicle and service offered.
‘Not a Luxury SUV Tour’
Luxury is not a word we use in our advertising. I have questioned this with Viator hopefully it does not appear within their sites as at no point do we promote this as a luxury tour. We give authentic Aussie style hospitality, we don’t wear suits. We trek in the bush, we look for wildlife, we explore away from crowds, we showcase amazing views, waterfalls and rainforests, we get our feet dirty at times in search of off the beaten path trails. We create amazing experiences, but we’re not luxury, that would be more akin to a limousine style of service. While the near future sees us investing in an up to date vehicle with more space and capacity, we still need to tour using our existing SUV with the escape plates.
‘Expecting a Luxury SUV Tour this is not the tour for you’
That’s correct as described above we don’t do luxury we do adventures. No champaign, no suits, just adventures without the crowds.

We had a magical trip exploring so many beautiful parts of the Blue Mountains. David was exceptional. He was knowledgeable, kind and patient. We experienced mountain vistas and magical rainforests, but the highlight of our trip was seeing the kangaroos. David provided us with so many memories and highlights from our tour. My friends and I were visiting Sydney from the United States and wanted a trip to the infamous Blue Mountains without hoards of crowds. David was our choice from many others on Viator and TripAdvisor and it turned out to be the best one. He picked us up from our accommodation on time and negotiated Sydney traffic to the mountains with numerous stops along the way. The weather turned out to be perfect for our day as it had been threatening the day before.
We saw all the best viewing spots without the crowds, some included short walks for amazing picture shots. Stopped in Katoomba for a quick pub lunch and our final one at Cahill’s Lookout for Vegemite sandwiches and refreshments. All in all a most enjoyable day with a very good driver and a recommended tour guide for a beautiful part of Australia. Thank you David.

Where do we even begin? I wish we could give 10 stars to David the most amazing driver EVER. We travel extensively and always book private tours and David is hands-down. This tour was fabulous. David is incredibly knowledgeable and really helped to introduce us to Australia, Sydney and the Blue Mountains. He customized the tour to our needs and requests and was so flexible and helpful throughout the day. We covered a lot of territory--drove through many neighborhoods and by lots of sights.
The Blue Mountains were gorgeous as advertised and we had perfect weather. This tour is not inexpensive, but it was worth EVERY PENNY . It is an ideal way to see and learn a lot and have fun too.

The day out with David more than lived up to the description. Worth every dear penny!
My wife and I hired David to help make the most of one of our six days in the Sydney area. We wanted to get out and see the native animals, some of the bush, and beautiful scenery of the Blue Mountains.
We were picked up early(!) from our downtown hotel (The Tank Stream) and driven in a very comfortable modern SUV. During the first part of the drive, David chatted with us to determine our goals and capabilities, and then tailored the day and destinations to match.
No wasted time, no bus loads of others holding things up. Just straight to the good stuff at our own pace.
Cannot recommend this option highly enough. We easily got a couple of days of experiences in, with only a single precious day of our holiday required!
For a couple or three people, just do it! Nothing to regret!

Chris is a great guide. His vehicle was clean and comfortable. Mother Nature did not cooperate for our tour but Chris kept us engaged. He knew of a great lunch place and scenic spots for small groups. He took us to many points of interest in Sydney as well.
