Fully-packed experience for good price

The whole day was quite an experience and we did so much!! The driver picked us up at 3.30am from our hotel in Ubud and then drove us to the north where we met our jeep driver. Then you drive further north around lake Batur to an area, in the dark, where you will watch the sunrise. There were hundreds of jeeps, so this is not a “intimate” experience. The driver is very nice and takes photos and videos for you, as much as you want. Unfortunately for us, the sunrise was not so great as it was so cloudy, but still picturesque. The breakfast they serve you at the top while you wait for the sunrise (around 5-5.30am) was NOT good- white bread with some kind of mashed bananas. We didn’t eat it. I would highly recommend bringing your own breakfast or ask your hotel if they can pack you a breakfast box otherwise you don’t have any opportunity to get food until about 12:00. After the sunrise we drove in the jeep to see black lava rocks, which was okay, but feels kind of just for Instagram worthy photos. You don’t get much explanation about anything. The drive is very bumpy so would not recommend if you have a bad back. After that we were reunited with our original driver, who took us to the Batur Natural Springs. That was very very nice, very refreshing and beautiful views- but of course filled with hundreds of tourist who just did the sunrise experience. Finally, we were taken to a coffee plantation about 45min drive away (time for a nap!) to taste test a few different coffees and teas, which was very nice. The view from the tasting was beautiful. It does however feel a bit tourist trappy, as they only walk you through a nature bit for 2min where they show you cacao bean, coffee bean and maybe jackfruit and other fruit trees. There isn’t much explanation or seeing the process of coffee making. And of course afterwards their aim is to sell you the coffee and tea products. Nonetheless we were happy it was short as by that time we were exhausted from the very early start. Overall a good fully-packed experience for a good price, especially if you have limited time in Bali.
