Beautiful excursion to the Candy Cane mountains of Azerbaijan! What a great! We had a great time!!!!

I recommend the trip but not the operator. We were cramped in a small car with a driver (not a guide) who could not speak English. We were basically dumped at the site with no direction to fend for ourselves. No information given. It was basically an expensive taxi ride. The site was awesome though.

Hello Katherine,
Thank you for your review! I am happy to go forward to investigate this further and issue a partial refund, as you were not satisfied. FYI, just to mention two things:
1) The inclusions regarding driver/guide are mentioned in the tour description. This is not a guided trip, but a ride to explore Candy Mountains on your own. You can take as much time as you like to enjoy the scenery and take photos.
2) I agree that the price is quite high, as it's booked through OTA (Viator in your case). That's why we always recommend our travelers to book the experience through our website instead to not be overcharged with commission fees.
Please write us at tours@bakuexplorer.com, so we can discuss this further and start the refund process.

Read some of the other reviews before booking this trip, so I thought I knew what what to expect. Some of the reviews had mentioned four stops, another said two, so I was expecting more than one stop, but that's all I got on this trip. If I had known I was only getting one stop, I would have spent more time climbing the hills to get some better views. The mountains themselves were very cool to look at, but the long drive kind of made me question whether it was worth it or not. Although my driver did not speak English, he was extremely pleasant to travel with, stopping on the way to buy me some water and a snack without me asking. We also were communicating through the translator app getting to know each other a little bit. The driver himself almost pushed this to a four star review, but in the end I did come away a little disappointed. My one suggestion would be to have a sheet printed out in English that explained what the expectations are for the trip so you know a little more of what is going on.

Hello Brian!
Thank you for this detailed review and I'm happy you enjoyed the ride with our driver.
Regarding the "one stop" experience, I really apologize for that. I have investigated the issue and it was a mistake of the driver. I know, that's crazy. Therefore, I have just issued a 50% refund for this, as your experience matters and it was our fault. This won't happen ever again. Thanks again for being with us and I hope your Azerbaijan trip went well in general!
Best regards,
Eltaj Muradli

We took a private tour to candy mountains & simply loved it for the expansive mountain terrain & the serenity. There were no crowds , it was a breezy day & the sun was not too harsh. For miles there was not a soul in sight & it felt so surreal. We were almost tempted to just view from afar & NOT hike up the lowest hill but somehow we clambered up & the views were awesome. So if you are planning a candy mountains trip, make sure you hike up to some level at least.
Do remember to Carry your sun hat, water, juice & something to munch & please don’t leave your trash at the base.
It would be nice if the tour drivers Offered water bottles for customers but apparently that’s too much to expect ?
To be honest, the name candy is a bit of a misnomer - the colours are faded compared to what the pics indicate - more like chewed up candy colour ! However That doesn’t take away the beauty of the place & we liked it much more than the very average mud volcanoes & fire mountain tour.
We would advise the tour operators to make the candy mountains drive longer by 8-10 kilometres so that the tourists can have their fill of the awesome natural beauty on display.

Trip was very good comfortable car. Driver was very nice and polite but didn’t speak English. I would say it was a long drive for a short trip. Tour operator is very professional.

As others have said, it’s a long drive for a short visit but I did enjoy seeing the pink and white hills and climbing one of them. The driver was very nice but not having someone who I could communicate with made it difficult for me to understand the plan. I had read one review that said there were 4 sites visited so at the first stop I only climbed about halfway up. The second stop wasn’t as easy to get close to so I took some photos and got back in the car. When he turned the car to head back I asked about other stops (and it did look like there was more to see down the road), but he said we were done. We were back to the hotel more than 20 minutes early. Clearly good luck with traffic was a factor but I do think that not having an English speaker with me was a detriment because I had been trying not to take too much time at each stop out of respect for the time limitations. If I had understood that those would be the only stops I would have taken more time at each one.

Hi Kathy!
Thank you for the review. I am happy you were satisfied with the transportation. Regarding the driver not speaking in English: all the plan is mentioned both in the itinerary and tour description and that's what we believe should be sufficient as there is nothing much to talk about, but to be explored by your own pace. That's why our guests have unlimited time (also mentioned in the description) to hike in the area. Additionally, we also mentioned in messaging that you have an option to ask the driver to contact us for any further inquiries. It would have been better to do that on the spot. We didn't mention any 4 sites in our tour description and I checked previous (5 star) review to see what you mean by that and actually what they were mentioning were 4 things that they liked about this tour:
where they stayed, nice driver, everything was perfectly organised and they had unlimited time to explore mountains. Now I see where your confusion comes from and I am sorry about that.

A great half day tour from Baku. Takes about 1.5 hours drive each way. The mountains are definitely unique and worth visiting. However please note in winter weather, take the appropriate footwear or tie plastic bags around your shoes as the clay will stick to your shoes very quickly and it’s a pain to clean there and then. Our driver didn’t speak much English but was very helpful and polite never the less.

Thanks Shiraz! And great point regarding footwear! I am happy you enjoyed it with us and it was a pleasure having you for this trip.

Nice guide, quick and efficient tour. Let me spend time in the mountains and took some pics for me as well. Although he did not speak English it didn’t matter, I enjoyed the experience

It was an efficient private tour, which lasted 3h30 as advertised (3 hours of driving both ways and 30 minutes to visit the place).
The driver came on time and even though he didn't speak English he made me feel very comfortable.
Candy Cane mountains are so beautiful, I had great time taking photos and experience the beauty of the place.
I liked that there were several options for departure time (9am, 10am and 12pm) so I could take it a bit easier after days of long day trips.
Probably it was a bit too expensive considering that it was a short tour without a guide, I had booked full day private tours for locations much further away, and with a driver/guide, which were cheaper.

Hello Angela!
Thanks a lot for this elaborate and lovely review, I really appreciate it! Happy that you enjoyed it. Regarding the price I recommend going to our official website and booking there to avoid additional costs of OTAs. That way it will be cheaper, but same experience by us.

Quick and simple tour. Driver was great, and helpful.
This tour is great if you want a short trip out of city and the candy mountains and worth a visit.
