Our guide Mr. Gurinder Singh is a very pleasant and polished person with in-depth knowledge of the history of Amritsar and of Sikhism. He took us through narrow streets of the old town and showed us things that we e would never have seen in our own, and gave us wonderful insights into the past that is now fading out of people’s memories. Great walk.

Disappointing guide experience

My wife and I were quite excited about the experience and we disappointed with the guide. Before I talk about our experience I think its worth mentioning that the owner or manager called Raj was great. He was very helpful, easy to contact, and surprised/apologetic about our experience. He offered us another tour on the following day, but we have already booked one and therefore could not take advantage of this opportunity. We booked this tour under the pretext that we wanted a food tour mostly and made this clear in our communications. This did not happen. Our guide was nearly 30 mins late, and seemed unorganized. He bosted that he was a senior most guide with 20+ years of experience, but when we were on the tour, it did not seem like this was the case. He brought us for a walk and would stop every once in a while, point at a building and say "heritage". This was the extent of the information he would present to us. Upon questioning him for more specific information, he would offer a half hazard answer that didn't seem to answer the question in the first place. After walking around for 20 mins, he brought us the the top of a car park that was a pretty cool view, and then asked us to get into his car to drive around and bring us to his shop. This is not what we wanted and therefore left the tour guide. He asked for feedback and we told him that he needs to offer more information, and more food on this walk since it is in the title. I then spoke with the tour operator and communicated this aswell. He was very apologetic. All in all, we ate 1 kulcha, since we insisted upon in, learned nothing about the history of the heritage area, and in reality could have done this walk without the guide and would have had the exact same experience. All in all, I think that this disappointing experience is reflective of the guide and not the tour operator.
