Itinerary
Meet your guide and a small group near the Vatican Museums, where you enjoy early access into the complex.
Your guide takes you through the maze of the museums to see highlights including the Gallery of Candelabras, the Gallery of Tapestries, the Pinecone Courtyard, and the Raphael Rooms.
Then head to the Sistine Chapel where you listen to an introduction to Michelangelo’s frescoes from your guide. Talking inside the chapel is not allowed, so learn about these Renaissance artworks before entering. Then, head directly inside the pope’s private place of worship.
Gaze in awe at Michelangelo’s ceiling fresco, "The Creation of Adam," as well as "The Last Judgment" gracing the back wall of the chapel. Soak in unobstructed views of the works, and enjoy time to inspect them in detail.
When your time in the chapel is up, head inside St. Peter’s Basilica with priority entrance. Here, let your guide introduce you to the best of the treasures held in the magnificent interior. Admire Michelangelo's glorious Pietà, the marble sculpture depicting Mary holding the dead Jesus, as well as Bernini's Baldacchino altar canopy and Pope Alexander VII monument among other great works.
Your tour concludes inside the church when your guide departs. You’re free to then continue exploring independently, perhaps looking further around the interior to see the papal tombs, climbing the Dome, or strolling around St. Peter’s Square as you wish.

Excellent tour and our guide Marzia was the best! Marzia is a wealth of knowledge! Highly recommend!
Our Guide Luisa was amazing! Incredibly informative and helpful. We were so glad to have a guide to explain all the history and stories behind what we were seeing. Our group was very small so we could move around easily. This was definitely one of the highlights to our trip to Italy! Absolutely worth it!

We truly appreciate your recommendation and are so glad you chose LivTours for your Vatican experience!
This tour was fabulous! Having a guide really helped understand what we were seeing and make it through at a great pace. There’s so much to see you could actually get bogged down by yourself. Our guide Barbara from Liv Tours was fantastic! The small group gave a more personalized experience and she always gave us time to absorb the experience and ask questions. And we found out our families are both from Frosinone!
Great tour! We were a little late to the meeting point but called the number and we were led to the right spot. Our tour guide Enza B. Was waiting for us and started tour when we arrived. Enza was wonderful and extremely knowledgeable about all things Vatican!
Very fast paced with specific works the guide has determined to be the highlights of the tour. No free time to wander without getting separated from the group. Perfect overview for first time visitors.
Our tour to the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica was absolutely amazing. Our guide, Claudia (we are not sure of her name’s spelling), was excellent. She had a plethora of knowledge, a warm personality, and a great sense of humor. We loved that she brought her own props to share (pictures of what we would see) which made it much easier to understand what we would witness in these historical sites.
This is a MUST tour if you are in Rome!!!
Reminder: for this tour you MUST have your knees and shoulders covered!!!
NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
Our tour guide Massimo was the best! He had all of the knowledge along with a wonderful sense of humor. We were able to see all of the highlights, including Raphael's rooms. Definitely the advantage of taking the first tour of the day. Fantastic tour guide!
This tour was absolutely amazing! Our guide was Caterina and she was the best! We booked this tour because we knew that the crowds could get crazy and we had one traveler in our group who had mobility limitations. Caterina took care of everything to make sure that our traveler had the easiest and most enjoyable experience possible. She found was to get us into the places we wanted to be via the least stressful route and gave us the ability and opportunity to experience masterpieces such as the Raphael rooms, the School of Athens, the Sistine Chapel, and the Pieta with comfort and space to really sit and enjoy them! She shared so much information and history with us, it was clear that she has a deep knowledge of the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St Peter’s Basilica. We truly enjoyed the tour and experienced/learned so much more than we would have without her expertise. Highly recommend this tour, especially the early morning entry (get up and do it…you won’t regret it), and count yourself lucky if you get Caterina as your guide…she was amazing!
Crowds at the Vatican City can be challenging. But having an early morning, Sistine Chapel and Vatican tour was the way to go. Crowds were a less. Our guide was excellent. She was able to maneuver us efficiently to the highlights and she was very knowledgeable of the city. Would highly recommend.
Our guide Lisa was exceptionally knowledgeable and took great care of us. The tour was well paced and incredible exposure to the museum, Sistine chapel and basilica. Would highly recommend a private guide for the additional info/perspective.
My husband and I booked a private tour. Lorenza, our guide, was fantastic! She was so knowledgeable and personable. She taught us so much and made sure we got to see as much as possible.

Linda, thank you for sharing such a lovely review! 🏛️ We’re delighted to hear that choosing the private experience was such a worthwhile part of your Vatican visit. Lorenza sounds like she made the perfect companion for the morning, combining her knowledge with a warm and personable approach while making sure you had the opportunity to see as much as possible.
It’s wonderful to know you left the Vatican having learned so much and with such a positive impression of the experience. Thank you for choosing LivTours!
Christina T. shared a lot of history and details about many aspects of the tour we were not aware of. She asked us what we were most interested in and tailored the tour and her conversation around those key areas. It was a great experience and she was very nice.
Great tour!! Very thorough with experienced guides! Learned a ton without being too overwhelmed.
Early start!
It was wonderful, I’d highly recommend using a guide, there’s so much to see. It was nice to have a knowledgeable person guiding you

Thank you for sharing your experience, Mary! 🌅🏛️ We’re so pleased to hear that your early morning Vatican tour was such a wonderful experience. With so much art, history, and detail packed into the Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica, having a knowledgeable guide can make the visit much more meaningful. We truly appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you again in Rome!
Vatican tour with Assunta. Her knowledge and passion for the history exceeded expectations. The details, her expression, and the pace could not have been better. She made use of the wait before we entered, teaching us and showing photos so the time wasn’t wasted. Her explanations were easy to understand. I don’t believe there is a better way to see the Vatican than with Assunta.
Response from Host, Sept 2026
Paddy, what a beautiful tribute to Assunta! 🕊️ Your description of her passion, attention to detail, and perfectly judged pace captures exactly what makes a guided Vatican experience so special. We especially love that she turned the waiting time into part of the tour, using it to share stories and images before you even entered. It’s wonderful to know that her explanations made such a vast and complex place feel accessible and engaging. We’ll be sure to share your lovely words with Assunta
This tour was just as advertised. We got in to the main rooms before the hoards. Our guide Giovanni was great and fun. He streamlined our passage through this immense area, and yet was mindful of our one tourgoer who had mobility issues (so we got to take an elevator in one part!) The Vatican is so immense it is hard to take it all in. He gave us time at our leisure in the Sistene Chapel, and gave us great info in St. Peter's about the popes who are laid to rest there, Peter's chair, and just the immensity of the building which you just can't fathom on your own. We really got our money's worth!
This excursion was the most amazing our experience. Our guide Carlotta was truly entertaining and knowledgeable. Making this experience a life long treasure.
"Private tour" is misleading. We were a small group of 7, but I did not consider it private. "Early morning" was also not prior to access to general Public. We had skip the line access, but not allowed to go in prior to everyone else.
Our tour guide was extremely patient, knowledgeable like crazy and overall fantastic. Big Mamma gave us a wonderful tour guide.
Company was also well organized with showing up, getting us separated by guide and consistent with expectations.
Worth paying the higher cost to have the private tour. Our guide was very informative and allowed us time to take in everything and to take on our questions.
This was a fabulous tour! Paola was a friendly and knowledgeable guide and we were able to learn a lot about the Vatican. She kept us moving at a good pace with our small group of 6 total. The tour began on time and ended on time. Very organized, would highly recommend. Definitely recommend getting there early as we could see very long lines by the time our tour ended and we were leaving.
Francesco was knowledgeable, experienced, organized, and engaging. One of, if not, the best tour guide I’ve ever had in a place brim full of history and splendor.
I was so excited to finally go to the Vatican and Lucy was absolutely the best guide for us. I could not have wished for a better experience.
Lucy explained everything to us and we learned so much from her because of her extensive knowledge. I would recommend
LivTours to anyone wanting to visit the Vatican and if you are lucky enough, hopefully you will also get Lucy to show you around. GRAZIE MILLE LUCY!!!!
Our guide, Laurenza, was nothing short of amazing! She was informative, fun and so very kind. We enjoyed hearing all about each room of the Vatican, St. Peter’s Basilica and Sistine chapel as she ushered us through the crowds, guiding us knowingly to the most infamous sights. We could not have asked for a better guide. Highly recommend this guide.
What an amazing experience, there was so much to see & learn that we could not have done it without a tour. We skipped the very long lines for the museum and St. Peter's Basilica. Was a very small group which was nice. Highly recommend.
Maria Claudia was knowledgeable and excellent , was not rushed and was the best time to go before the crowds!
A spectacular tour coving the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica. Patrizia was extremely knowledgeable and kept us moving because we had so much to cover.
Patricia was very knowledgeable and quickly navigated the crowds. Good tour - highly recommend early morning before it gets too crazy busy
Entering the Vatican Museums when they first open was a great way to avoid the crowds. Annalisa guided us straight to the most important areas and explained the history and context of everything we saw. She easily answered any questions from our very small group. We had time to soak up the feeling of place, but I admit I could not take in the large amount of information explained about the history and major personalities involved with bringing together the art and buildings. A small group was the best way to experience this. At the end of the tour, we could stay in St. Peter's Basilica, but Annalisa offered to help me find transport so I could continue my trip.
