The trip was excellent - the guides entertaining and Capri is absolutely beautiful! There were a lot of details to arrange and the tour company did a great job organizing transport, ferry rides, mini buses and really good tour guides. I would definitely use them again! Be warned it is a very long day, but was well worth it for a day trip!

1-Star Viator Review — Stay Away

Anjana_s, Sept 2026
We paid for the highest/top tour option expecting a complete and memorable Capri experience, but unfortunately it was a complete waste of our money and valuable vacation time. There was almost no actual guided tour. We received no meaningful explanations about Capri, its history, the places we were visiting, or what we were seeing. When we arrived, our guide Henrico connected us with another person whom he identified as “Rafelo.” We had paid extra for an additional experience, but Rafelo told us it was closed because of the weather. He promised to take us to another island as compensation, but that never happened. Instead, we were taken to the upper part of Capri and then to Ristorante La Pigna for lunch. An appetizer was placed on our table that we never ordered. When the food we actually wanted was repeatedly said to be unavailable, we left and ate somewhere else. When we returned, Rafelo demanded money for the appetizer. Even after we explained that we never ordered it, we felt pressured to go back inside and pay €10. When we objected, the attitude was essentially, “take a picture and do whatever you want.” We have the restaurant receipt documenting the charge. The €10 is not the main issue. The issue is that we paid premium money for the top tour package, did not receive the additional experience we paid for, did not receive the alternative we were promised, received virtually no tour-guide explanation, and wasted a significant part of our limited time in Capri dealing with this situation. Capri is beautiful and this could have been one of the best days of our trip, but our experience with this tour made it one of the most disappointing. Based on our experience, I strongly recommend travelers stay away from this tour/operator.

Response from Host, Sept 2026

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations, but we would like to clarify a few important points for the sake of accuracy. The Blue Grotto visit could not take place due to weather and sea conditions. This is a decision made by the maritime authorities and is completely beyond the control of the tour operator. As clearly stated in our programme, which is available online, when the Blue Grotto cannot be visited due to weather conditions, an alternative Capri experience is provided. On the day of your tour, our team therefore offered an alternative itinerary, including some of the island’s highlights together with explanations in English, subject to the weather conditions. We would also like to clarify the situation regarding lunch. The standard tour includes a fixed menu priced at €20, while guests are also free to order à la carte. According to the report provided by our guide, you initially ordered bruschetta and drinks, which were served to you. You subsequently requested a fish dish that was unfortunately unavailable. Once you were informed of this and invited to choose another available option, you decided to leave the restaurant without paying for the items that had already been ordered and served. The €10 charge mentioned in your review was related to those items and was not an additional or unsolicited charge. We fully understand that unexpected weather conditions can affect expectations, particularly when travelling with limited time. However, the tour did operate according to the applicable programme, with the itinerary adapted to the circumstances and to what was safely possible on the day. We regret that the experience did not correspond to what you had hoped for. Regards, Gray Line I Love Rome

It was meh - not worth the price

Reese_R, Sept 2026
Overall the tour was fine - not great, not bad. It was quite the journey but nice not to have to put together all the pieces there. Unfortunately the Blue Grotto was closed and they gave us a tour of other “grottos” however they were quite disappointing. Weather is weather so not much they could do however I think they should advertise the tour differently if it is going to consistently be closed. Once we were in Capri, our local guide consistently tried to sell us liquor from in specific businesses, very sales-y. Lunch was really not great and honestly expensive for what we had. If this trip was half the price it would be worth it, unfortunately that wasn’t the case.

For the amount of money...

Rita_E, Aug 2026
For the amount of money we paid the blue grotto was closed and the guys weren't really explaining much. We didn't have much time in the city to do much at all and the guys took us to a place with a set menu for €20 a person overall I felt like I could've done this experience on my own without a guide. We paid $450 and we were there for less than three hours and didn't get to really enjoy Capri.

Response from Host, Sept 2026

Dear Rita, We are sorry to hear that the experience did not meet your expectations. Regarding the Blue Grotto, its closure is not dependent on us, as access is subject to sea and weather conditions. In such circumstances, we always offer an alternative, as indicated in the voucher provided at the time of booking. We understand that, as a day trip, the tour may feel quite fast-paced, as there is a limited amount of time. Our staff accompanies guests throughout the experience and serves as a point of reference, providing assistance and support whenever needed. Nevertheless, we hope that you were able to enjoy the beauty of Capri and that you took home some pleasant memories of your visit. Kind regards, Gray Line I Love Rome

BEWARE: Classic Bait-and-Switch – Do Not Book if You Want to See the Blue Grotto

ramakrb, Aug 2026
I strongly advise against booking this tour. If you are booking this trip primarily to see the Blue Grotto—which is heavily advertised as the main attraction—prepare to be deeply disappointed. Our experience was essentially a textbook bait-and-switch. We boarded the bus in Rome at 7:10 AM, and immediately after we were seated and the tour had officially begun, the guide announced that we would not be visiting the Blue Grotto. To be clear, this was not due to unpredictable weather or unsafe sea conditions, which is understandable. It was a perfect, beautiful day with clear skies and calm seas. The guide explicitly stated that we were skipping it simply because it would be "crowded." Waiting to announce this until after passengers have boarded and are effectively trapped on the bus is a highly deceptive business practice. We were given absolutely no opportunity to cancel our booking, get a refund, and find a reputable provider who could actually deliver the itinerary we paid for. Instead of the Blue Grotto, we were taken on a mediocre boat ride in Naples to see insignificant locations that were never mentioned in the "What's Included" section of the tour description. Vacation days in Italy are precious and limited. This company wasted one of ours by selling us a tour they had no intention of delivering. Save your money, protect your vacation time, and book with a more transparent and honest tour operator. I paid over $500 for me and my spouse just to see the Blue Grotto, but I got an experience which I could have booked and done myself for a lot less and probably would have seen the Blue Grotto. To make matters worse, Viator customer service was of absolutely no help when I reached out to resolve this issue. They offered no meaningful support and completely failed to hold their local operator accountable for this blatant misrepresentation. When a booking platform refuses to protect its customers from deceptive practices, it loses all credibility. Because of this incredibly frustrating experience and lack of accountability, this is the absolute last time I will ever book anything through Viator. Vacation days in Italy are precious and limited. This company wasted one of ours by selling us a tour they had no intention of delivering. Save your money, protect your vacation time, and book with a more transparent and honest tour operator.

Daniel_M, Jul 2026
An amazing day trip and absolutely worth the long journey from Rome! Everything was very well organised, so we could just relax and enjoy the experience. The tour guides were fantastic. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and kept the day fun and engaging from start to finish. The highlight for us was the exclusive access to a private grotto, which made the experience feel really special. It was such a beautiful spot and something we wouldn't have been able to experience on our own. If you're considering visiting Capri while staying in Rome, don't let the travel time put you off. The stunning scenery, excellent organization, and wonderful guides make this tour well worth it. Highly recommend!

Very disappointing, felt like a scam

Nathan_L, Jun 2026
Very disappointed overall. The tour chaperone Alex was good. But once we got to the island it was disappointing. We did get to see the blue grotto and that was amazing. Our island tour guide was Iliana (I think). She had a lot of friends there and this was just a paid social hour for her. She was too busy hanging with the boat captain that she forgot to give us our blue grotto tickets and they tried to charge us again. Then we get on the island and she takes us right to her friends shop. Then after we shop only in that store tells us we need to go to lunch. Tells us we can eat anywhere but if we eat with her the meal is covered by the tour and we only need to buy drinks. We could tell she was obviously close friends with the owner once we got in there. Then when we sat down she disappeared and we ate without her and each got a bill for over 50eu. Then she gave us 30 minutes to hang out on the island and that was it! Then said it was time to go and the tour was over. The itinerary says 3 hours on the island and we got 30 minutes. I honestly don’t know what we paid for. It was 8 hours of travel for the blue grotto and shopping and eating at her friends stores. Felt like a scam and we just paid for her social time. The whole group was talking about how upset we were with the tour.

Magnificent☆

Tomomi_Y, Oct 2025
Unfortunate for the long queue, due to the crowd, we could not make the most famous grotto, but the tour guide and the captain took us the next beautiful spot where is the exact the same BLUE!!

Capri is beautiful!! Well worth the long day!!

Rough waters

Sandra_M, Sept 2025
Very long day a the ocean was to rough to go to the Blue Grotto but Annnnalisa an Ileana made the trip fun still! We took a wild water ride around the other side of the island an the boat driver put his boat into some small caves an saw the green water still. Very bad ocean weather but boat driver an tour guides were awesome still! Highly recommend Annalisa for the bus park an Ileana for the Capri part great day!

pamela_w, Sept 2025
The Grotto is a must see experience…Definitely not enough time to explore Capri… Don’t be surprised if you book an English speaking tour and ended up with a group that doesn’t speak English… our guide Franchesca on the coach was extremely helpful with us in particular and attentive to the groups needs… I would recommend not to miss this tour!!!

Well organized day trip

Glen_L, Sept 2025
The water at the Blue Grotto can be choppy, so we were fortunate that it settled down enough for us to get in. I was very disappointed that I was not able to sit with my wife as we went into the grotto due to the seating configuration of the row boat. It seems that the boaters were just trying to get as many people in and out as quickly as they could.

Beautiful places to visit. Catching the ferry to Capri was chaotic with all the people.. very hard to keep up

No Blue Grotto!!! Not as advertised

Kathleen_N, Jul 2025
Don’t do it’!! Did not include the Blue Grotto! When we got there the tour operator informed us that they NEVER include the Blue Grotto in this tour. This is NOT the trip as stated. Just took a boat ride. SO very disappointed 💔

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Dear Kathleen - thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re very sorry to hear about your disappointment. Please allow us to clarify: the Blue Grotto is always included in this tour whenever sea and weather conditions permit. However, for safety reasons, access to the Grotto can sometimes be suspended by the authorities due to rough seas, tides, or operational restrictions. Additionally, on days of very high demand, long waiting times may prevent the visit from being completed within the tour schedule. This information is clearly explained on our website and booking platforms, as it is unfortunately beyond the control of any tour operator. On those occasions, the tour continues with a boat ride around the island to ensure guests can still enjoy the beauty of Capri from the sea. We hope to welcome you back in the future under better circumstances... Warm regards, Gray Line Rome

Disappointing

Robert_E, Jul 2025
I spent a lot of money for this excursion to the Blue Grotto but when we got there the guide that the line was too long - no asking what what we wanted to do or anyone else - she didn't want to wait so we didn't go. Very disappointing for a small substitute boat ride.

Response from Host, Jul 2025

Robert - Please allow us to clarify that the decision not to proceed with the Blue Grotto visit was not due to the personal preference of the tour leader. During high season, it is unfortunately common to encounter extremely long queues at the entrance to the Grotto, with waiting times that can stretch well beyond what is compatible with the overall schedule of a group tour traveling from and back to Rome in the same day. As this is a daily group tour with fixed return times, we must ensure that the itinerary remains feasible for everyone. For this reason, on our platforms we always inform our guests that, in case the Blue Grotto visit is not possible, alternative activities will be offered — such as additional free time to enjoy the island of Capri. We sincerely regret if this alternative did not meet your expectations, and we thank you for your valuable feedback, which helps us in continuing to improve the experience we offer. Best regards, Gray Line I Love Rome

Claudia_E, Jun 2025
The actual site of the blue grotto was something to see - however the tour person wanted to deter us from going as her feedback was that it would be too long... we had to push back and say we had paid to go there and we did end up going but I was frustrated that we even had to ask.

Response from Host, Jun 2025

Dear Claudia - thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about the Capri Guided Day Trip from Rome: Ferry & Blue Grotto. We’re pleased to hear that you found the Blue Grotto an unforgettable experience but regret the frustration caused by the situation. Our tour leaders are there not only to assist guests but also to assess any potential delays or challenges that could impact the schedule. The daily tour to Capri operates on a tight timetable to ensure a smooth return to Rome, and long queues for the Blue Grotto can sometimes pose a risk to the overall itinerary. This is why, on our product page, we clearly indicate that access to the Blue Grotto is subject to conditions such as weather, sea levels, or extended waiting times. In such cases, alternative activities are always suggested to maximize your time on the island. We understand that it can be disappointing to face such uncertainties, and we truly appreciate your patience and determination in making the visit happen. Thank you again for choosing this tour, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back for another adventure soon. Sincerely, Gray Line Rome Carrani Tours Reviews Team

Beautiful Coast and Land of the Lemons

Donald_P, Oct 2024
Absolutely breathtaking Mediterranean Sea and coast. The Grotto was closed and instead we were treated to an amazing boat ride that we actually preferred! We are still talking about it! Capri is a captivating town and we loved the lemons...best lemon sorbet in a frozen lemon anywhere! The ferry ride was nice and we enjoyed the day. We would recommend eating lunch on your own....we felt pressured to eat where the guide led us and it was a limited menu and just okay. The restaurants and cafes in town would have been a better choice.

Great views of Capri and the blue grotto

It’s says in your itinerary that Traditional Italian lunch is included, but according to our guide it was removed years ago. So we had to pay additional for our lunch.

The amazing blue grotto

Nishani_L, Sept 2024
Blue grotto proved to be everything I expected and more ! It was well organized with a very practical and experienced guide. The guide at Capri was very good too. Capri was very crowded and clothes were expensive. But hand made ceramics and capri bells made up for it ! Leave alone shopping it’s a beautiful must see place, especially blue grotto !!

Tour guides arguing

Nancy_W, Sept 2024
Disorganized tour. The guides were arguing with each other and their English was difficult to understand. Actual tour did not match the Viator website. Best experience? Seeing the Blue Grotto

Fun times!!

Debbie_D, Aug 2024
Had a wonderful time!! The tour guides were professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. They knew their history and provided interesting facts about places we visited. Our bus driver and boat captain were terrific—and gave us a smooth ride. The tour was well organized and timing was perfect. We didn’t get to see blue Grotto due to inclement weather, but they had a back up plan and gave us a boat tour around the island that we enjoyed just as much. We had some free time to explore on our own. I just wished we had a little more time on the island—spent a lot of time commuting. Overall—great and memorable experience!

We were unable to enter the Blue Grotto due to high tide. The trip to Capri island was amazing! The food at the restaurant the tour guide took us to was not good. There are many great restaurants in the area. Please offer customers an alternative like “choose your own restaurant if you don't like the one we choose for you”

Response from Host, Jun 2024

Dear Mandy, thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your Capri Guided Day Trip from Rome, including the ferry and the Blue Grotto experience. We appreciate your insights and apologize for the challenges you encountered during the tour. We regret that you were unable to enter the Blue Grotto due to high tide. While this natural phenomenon is beyond our control, we understand your disappointment. Regarding the restaurant choice, we apologize that the food did not meet your expectations. Providing a memorable culinary experience is important to us, and we appreciate your suggestion for offering customers an alternative to choose their own restaurant. We will certainly take this into consideration for future tours to enhance our guests' dining experience. If there's anything else you would like to discuss or if there's anything we can do to assist you further, please don't hesitate to contact us directly. Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding. Best regards, Gray Line Rome

The disaster of the decade

Helen_M, Sept 2023
It was absolutely dreadful. Weather so bad the trip should have been cancelled. Instead of going to the Blue Grotto because of weather, we had a 5 minute photo stop on the way to the restaurant. The local guide said hello before we caught the ferry and we didn’t see him again. The meal was ordinary and we had to pay for our own water 3€, even tho we had paid A$400 for the trip. We spent 1 1/2 hrs waiting for buses, ferries and a couple of people. We were given 2 hrs to shop in the afternoon’s rain even though half the shops were closed. The price to enter the Blue Grotto is about 34€ but this wasn’t refunded.

Response from Host, Oct 2023

Dear Helen, we are deeply sorry to hear about your disappointing experience during the trip. Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the adverse weather conditions. We understand the frustration of not being able to visit the Blue Grotto due to the weather. Unfortunately, weather-related cancellations are beyond our control, and we regret any disappointment this caused. Regarding the limited interaction with the local guide, we appreciate your input and will address this concern with our team to ensure a more engaging experience in the future. Concerning the meal, it is not our intention to provide anything less than a delightful culinary experience. Your feedback about the cost of water is duly noted, and we will work on making our pricing policies clearer in the future. Regarding the waiting time for transportation and the shopping opportunity, we understand these aspects were not up to your expectations. We will review our logistics to minimize waiting times and provide better options for our customers, especially in adverse weather conditions. Finally, we regret that we could not offer a reimbursement due to the prearranged nature of the tour. However, we value your feedback, and we will reconsider our policies in similar situations to ensure fairness for our customers. We genuinely appreciate your input, and we will use this experience as an opportunity to enhance our services. We hope you might consider giving us another chance in the future. If you have any further concerns, please feel free to reach out to our customer service team. Warm regards, Gray Line Rome Reviews Team

A well planned and happy day.

Had a wonderful trip. Michaela was lovely and all the other travelers were so nice. I was traveling solo but had a bunch of friends by the end of the day. Everything was very well planned. The blue grotto was closed but I was just as happy with the other ones we visited. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

I will recommend this tour you will have lots of fun

Oksana, Aug 2023
Amazing trip to Capri, pick up started at 6:15AM on a comfortable coach bus. The guide Marco was very knowledgeable and fluent in 5 languages, did a great job translating. Unfortunately we were not able to enter the Blue Ghrotto as it was closed due to tides, however instead they organized a boat ride around the island. Must do the chair lift in Capri, and see the amazing views from the chair lift and at the other side. Getting on the boats from Naples was a bit hectic, but the guide was with us the whole time. One hour of free time wasn’t really enough to see the island, but otherwise the tour was worth the 3 hour drive.

Unorganized
