Unfortunately, our dinner at Fontegiusta did not meet our expectations. It was arranged as a tasting dinner, yet the restaurant did not appear to be aware of our reservation initially, and we received none of the attention or consideration expected from a tasting dining experience. The service was also very slow, and the dishes felt quiet standard. We had hoped to discover the local cuisine of Siena and Tuscany but no one introduced the menu, explained the dishes, or shared their connection to the region. We were simply served the food and left to Google the significance of each course ourselves. We expected to have dishes paired and accompanied by wines but were each served a glass of table wine at the start and that was it. At time for dessert, a waiter came and asked what we wanted. We made a request for desert for one diner and none for the second diner then waited. After a significant amount of time, two desserts none of which was what we requested were placed at our table by a different waiter. At this point we left. A tasting dinner should feel intentional, personal, and well coordinated. Sadly, this experience lacked any form of hospitality which made the evening feel like an ordinary meal rather than a special Tuscan experience.
