What are people saying about Stavanger

Excellent trip to...
Excellent trip to Lysefjord - it was such a great experience! Very scenic trip, lots of sights to see (including a stop for the crew to feed the mountain goats!) and the crew are fantastic! Definitely take layers as it gets very cold and windy but there’s also lots of space inside to keep warm until you get to the fjord.

A fantastic hiking experience
We booked the tour on Viator, and the tour was conducted by GetGuided Norway. Our guide was Resmond ( hope I spelled his name correctly) and he was very friendly and helpful ( with tips on hiking uphills and downhills). He also prepared a walking stick for everyone, which turned out to be essential (at least for me). We completed the climb up in a little bit over 2 hours. Took a 30 minutes lunch break and then came down.
My daughters and I really enjoyed the hiking -- the weather was perfect, the view was fantastic, and the trail is good combination of challenge & fun. I'd recommend this hike to anyone who is reasonably fit.

Gorgeous waterfall
Hans was our tour guide and he was quite informative. He shared much of Norway’s history. The bus ride was an hour and 30 minutes each way but didn’t feel so long because the bus was nice, comfy and clean. The waterfall was stunning. Overall the tour was terrific and it was an appropriate value. I’d do this one again if given the chance.

Great speedboat
We booked this tour as it was a small group tour on a new speedboat. Our driver was excellent he explained all about the fjords, showed us some amazing waterfalls. I would definitely recommend this tour and this company. We had a great time and got some amazing pictures

Vacation Highlight
This was a highlight of our entire trip not only for the “old” parents but for the “young adult” sons. The team was organized, communicative, and helpful. The tour was AMAZING! Our guide was knowledgeable and created a fun and inviting atmosphere. The views were breathtaking, the water was clear enough to see jellyfish, and the waterfall was refreshing. Our guide offered and took pictures when asked. With a tight trip to the airport, the land crew had a taxi waiting for us when we got back. This tour left us longing for more fjord experiences.

Great Hike
This was a very good tour that kicked off on time and we returned as scheduled. Our guide was Johannes, he was well versed in details and facts about the local area. The hike itself was about 3.5 miles round trip, but fairly steep from beginning to end with some loose gravel, making it somewhat slippery on the way down. I would say it’s a somewhat difficult hike for those reasons. The views on the way up and at the top are wonderful. They provide a lunch that consists of a lunchmeat and cheese sandwich, chocolate bar and bottled water.

A very fast thrilling, but safe rib ride, to see the fjords close up from our P&O cruise ship.
A very fast thrilling but safe rib ride to see further into the fjords near Stavanger from our P&O cruise ship. The meeting point was only about 150 metres flat walk from our ship but there are several different companies operating excursions and it took us a few conversations to find ours. Once we established contact the young lady at the tent was very helpful and invited us - my daughter and 9 year old grandson - to don full waterproof overalls and a life jacket. We were all allocated a boat number and our Captain - Captain Graham - then introduced himself. He gave us a full safety briefing before helping us to board the rib and take our seats, rather like sitting on a motorbike with handles at the front. Graham was very friendly and very particular about safety which was really reassuring. After steadily pulling away from the jetty and getting into the main fjord area Graham cut the engine and walked along the rib to give us information about the local area which was very interesting. He then returned to the controls and started our very fast thrilling ride to see more of the spectacular fjord including the Pulpit Rock and amazing waterfalls. We went very close to the side of the fjord walls, under one waterfall and at various points he stopped the engine to give us more local details eg Vagabond Cave.
It was a very thrilling and interesting ride which we all thoroughly enjoyed - my grandson identified this as one of the main highlights of the cruise. We are very grateful to Captain Graham for such a wonderful experience and would recommend it to all family and friends when visiting Stavanger.

So much fun! Suits and...
So much fun! Suits and goggles keep you warm and dry! It’s amazing being down close to the water. You can get right up (and in!) a waterfall! 10/10 recommendation! You can store anything you don’t want to take on the boat in the changing room/office building. They play music and you can bop and dance along with was a lot of fun!

The only way to see it all!!
Great way to see the city!! Saw so many sites and as we were there on a cruise this was the perfect way to see ALL the sites!
Our tour guide was amazing keeping three different groups together!
Just a suggestion to make sure all members of your group are comfortable biking through traffic!!
Highly recommend!!

Great way to see the outskirts of the area and still have plenty of time to shop and/eat.
Excellent tour! It was very easy to find the meet up spot which was an approx 5 min walk. The guide was great, very knowledgeable. He told us he was born in Germany but has lived here for decades. The tour is presented in English and he spoke it quite well. The beach and St. Olaf Church stops were my favorite. Do yourself a favor and touch that beach sand! The view at the church is absolutely breathtaking. FYI, entrance into the church is not included with the tour, but someone said the door was open and you could peek inside. All but the last stop at the church had restrooms. Before we crossed the bridge to the port area the guide asked if anyone wanted to stay in town…do it! There’s a pedestrian only street with lots of shops and restaurants. We had about 1.5 hours to wander after the tour before we had to be back onboard. It was a bout a 10 minute walk from the foot of the bridge back to the ship. Overall great tour, we stayed on schedule. Highly recommend!

A Rush of a Boat Tour
Our Stavanger RIB safari tour was a blast. It was a serious boat ride. The tour itself was more intensive than we were expecting, which was a welcomed surprise. Prepare to accelerate or blast off into the waves. We sat in the front of the boat, so we did get some spray and some airtime. (Again, no complaints on any of that). You’ll see cute little sea towns with 8 residents and no cars. The tour itself ended a bit earlier than advertised and it was more difficult to find the meeting point location. The directions provided were very poor, as we stepped off our cruise ship.

Fantastic fjord cruise
Great fjord cruise just a few hundred metres from the cruise terminal. We went on the 10am cruise.
Ship was very comfortable and the crew were fantastic, it has TVs scattered around the area so you can view where you’re going if you don’t want to venture out on deck.
Spotlessly clean and a lovely cafe on board. The visit to pulpit rock and the waterfall were the highlights
Highly recommended

Stavanger tours typically focus on the area’s plentiful outdoor recreation activities, such as hiking, biking, and exploring the fjords by water. These activities allow you to take in some of Norway’s most iconic views, like nearby Lysefjord, Pulpit Rock, and Kjerag Boulder, with the guidance of a local expert. Discover the city through a local’s eyes on a walking tour through narrow cobblestone streets to visit landmarks such as the Stavanger Cathedral and the city’s most colorful street, Ovre Holmegate.
