The American D-Day sites stretch along the Normandy coast, and understanding what happened at each site is hard without context. Your private guide leads you to the Normandy American Cemetery, Omaha Beach, and Pointe du Hoc, sharing the history of the landings at each site. Departures from Caen or Bayeux also include Utah Beach and Sainte-Mère-Église.

Most cruisers visiting Le Havre spend their port day in one of two ways: they book the ship's overpriced excursion, or spend the first hour figuring out trains and taxis. This shuttle is the third option. Étretat is 45 minutes from the cruise terminal. The chalk cliffs — the arches, the needle, the views that Monet painted and Maupassant wrote about — are among northern France's most spectacular natural sights. The village below is exactly the kind of small, unhurried Norman town most ship excursions never have time for. Here's how it works: your driver meets you at the terminal at 10:30 AM with a name sign. He drives you to Étretat, points out the cliff path and pickup spot, and gives you his number. Explore at your own pace — no guide unless you want one. Walk as far as you like. Eat when you feel like it. Take the photographs you actually want. At 3:00 PM, your driver is waiting at the same spot. Forty-five minutes back to the terminal. Done. One booking. Two cliffs. Zero stress.

Discover the secrets of Omaha Beach with our WWII expert. Rodolphe Rutman, who will accompany you, brings to life personal stories from Omaha Beach, using his knowledge of the subject acquired over more than 30 years of private research. He has been connected to the events of June 6 1944, since he was involved in the 50th anniversary of D-Day, in 1994. That year, he assisted a group of 41 American veteran paratroopers who came to perform a commemorative jump near Sainte-mère-église. Afterwards, Rodolphe became a filmmaker specialising in history. He has directed 4 TV documentary films about D-Day, which were broadcast internationally. This enabled him to interview more than 200 people who witnessed the events of summer 1944, including 13 American veterans who landed on Omaha Beach.
