Top Bayeux How to Get Around in 2026

This is the fuller version of the ride: everything in the shorter tour, extended west along the cliffs to Pointe du Hoc, and finished with a cider tasting in the Norman countryside. We start, as always, at Bayeux Cathedral, consecrated in 1077 before William the Conqueror, then head out on backroads no coach can reach, to Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, where 9,387 crosses and Stars of David stand across 172 acres above the bluffs. From the cemetery, the route turns west along a quiet cliff path — the Channel on one side, the ground Allied troops once crossed on the other — to Pointe du Hoc, where bomb craters and shattered bunkers still mark the cliffs the U.S. Rangers scaled under fire. We close gently: a cider and Calvados tasting at Domaine Lebrec, a family cider house near Omaha Beach, before the last quiet lanes carry you home to Bayeux. Your guide, your pace, your language — English, French, or Mandarin.

Most visitors come to Mont Saint-Michel for the abbey. And of course, they should. But the real beauty of the place is not only on the island, it is also in the bay. This private full-day tour from Bayeux or Caen shows you Mont Saint-Michel with a more local eye, aboard a vintage Range Rover. In the morning, explore the medieval village and abbey with your guide, who brings the place to life through its history and architecture. Then, leave the island for a chic picnic lunch in a beautifully renovated 17th-century building, with open views of the Mont. Local treats and a quieter setting after the busy village atmosphere. In the afternoon, your guide takes you through the surrounding countryside to discover some of the best viewpoints, including the salt meadows of the bay. The day can include a stop at a German military cemetery, for its striking circular architecture, or at a foundry where bells are still made for cathedrals, including Notre-Dame de Paris.

Your driver picks you up at your Bayeux hotel and takes you directly to one of the most iconic sights in France. No rental car to navigate, no group to keep pace with, no bus timetable to work around. Just a private vehicle and a full day to spend on the island exactly as you choose. Mont-Saint-Michel has been drawing travellers for over a thousand years. Standing on its ramparts, looking out over the vast tidal bay, it is easy to understand why. The medieval abbey at the summit has survived wars, revolutions, and the sea itself. The village below it — all winding lanes, ancient houses, and unexpected viewpoints — rewards slow exploration. Five hours on the island. Two hours each way through the Normandy countryside. A day that stays with you long after you leave. Add a licensed guide to go deeper into the history and architecture of the Mount — from its founding in 708 to its role as a political prison, to the engineering marvel it remains today.

Situated to the west of Omaha Beach, the first stop on this tour is La Pointe du Hoc. In the early hours of the morning of the 6th of June 1944, 260 of the 2nd Battalion of the United States Rangers, stormed the headland with its 90 foot cliffs. Their mission, to capture and silence the German artillery battery of 6 long range guns that posed a significant threat to the American landing beaches, the remains of which can still be viewed today. A short drive from La Pointe du Hoc, is the tour’s 2nd stop, Omaha Beach. Here on D-day 33 000 American soldiers landed, the largest number of men to land on any of the 5 D-day landing beaches. An operation which unfortunately turned out to be the most costliest in terms of lives lost on D-day. The tour finishes rather poignantly at the US Military Cemetery at the eastern end of Omaha. This Cemetery is by far the largest of the 25 military cemeteries in Normandy from the 2nd World War and is a fitting tribute to the 9 387 servicemen buried there.

On D-day, Tuesday June the 6th 1944, 21 500 Canadian troops landed on what is known today as Juno Beach. Overlooking Juno Beach today is the Juno Beach Center, the first stop of the day and a must see for any Canadian visitor to the region. It is the only museum in Normandy dedicated specifically to the Canadian war effort. The center recounts the history of Canada immediately before, during and after in its involvement in World War II. The 2nd stop of this tour is the Canadian Military Cemetery between the villages of Bény-sur-Mer and Reviers. The cemetery is managed by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and is the final resting place of 2 048 Canadian servicemen who lost their lives on D-day or during the battle of Normandy. From there the tour makes its way through some of the villages liberated by Canadian forces to the Abbaye d’Ardennes. This former abbey was a German HQ during the D-day invasion and was the scene of an infamous massacre.
