A lot of people told me it was a very bad idea to go into Tijuana, especially with my teenage daughter. I am glad I didn’t listen to them because we had a great day with no problems. I am however very glad we did a tour, we would have been lost on our own, and definitely stood out as tourists. We had two guides for this trip. Tabitha met us on the US side, she called to confirm our reservations & took us across the pedestrian crossing. In Mexico, Tadeo met us, got a cab (van) to take us all to the city center and showed us all the sites: buildings, museum, cathedral, markets, etc. He was very knowledgeable and shared interesting information. We also had lunch (YUM) and a tequila tasting (I didn’t do that but others in our group enjoyed it). We had time at the end for souvenir shopping before Tadeo took us back to the line to cross into the US.
Tijuana is like any big city, you should be aware of your surroundings and stay in certain areas, but it is a colorful fun place, and not the dangerous chaos the news might portray. I would definitely recommend going on a tour, and if you are lucky enough to get Tadeo as a guide I promise you’ll have a great experience!

Our guide was awesome. She took us to some wonderful locations where we were able to try local food and also a tequila tasting. We learned a lot about the culture.

I had a few hours to spare during my trip to San Diego, and I decided to take advantage of its proximity to Tijuana and take a tour there! I took the trolley from downtown San Diego and Andres was waiting for me outside the McDonalds alongside one other tour member (so we had an intimate two-person tour!). He walked us through to the border area, and explained how the process would be. He met us on the other side once we went through passport control and then he took us to meet his colleauge Tabitha! She took over from the tour and we got on a public bus/taxi to get to downtown Tijuana. We had a great time taking photos, talking about the culture and life in Tijuana, trying Tequila, Cajeta, and delicious tacos! It was the right choice for me to get to experience Tijuana with someone who knows the area. We had some free time to do souvenir shopping, and then Tabitha took us back to the border via public bus/taxi and then we walked across back to the San Diego trolley. I would highly recommend this trip for solo travelers who want to explore Tijuana and get a small taste of Mexico!

Our tour guide Tiffany was 100% knowledgeable about Tijuana as she lives there. She was patient with all our questions and so personable. Tiffany felt like a friend to us!

The crossing border experience was amazing, undoubtly one of the best! I always wanted to experience what it would be like and with this walking tour it was safe, easy and very convenient. I Was escorted by the guide which meats you in San Diego side and then itroduces you to the other guide in Tijuana after you cross the border. The guide walks you through the points and explains to you a little about each place, you get to go through a market to experience native mexican artisan culture as well as the music and the food, not only that in the market there's a place where you get all kind of tequilas testing! And Unique experience! 👍💯‼️

I enjoyed the experience. Meeting point was ideal to cross the border. Plenty of partying available if you are driving to the border. The communication from the tour guide was great. Highly recommend it.

This just might be the best walking tour I’ve ever done on Viator. Diego was really nice getting me across the border. Then Tabitha took over and was so awesome! She is so, so personable and knows her way around. She made me feel totally comfortable and it seemed like I was with family the entire time together. I recommend this trip to any and everyone that is thinking about it. I’d do this again 100%!

Highly recommend for a flavour of Mexico! We were escorted through customs by the charming Diego, which was really fast and straightforward. We were then met by the amazing Tadeo, who showed us all around the sights and sounds of downtown Tijuana. He was patient and knowledgeable, answering all my questions, and sharing insights into the history and culture of Tijuana. We were lucky enough to have personal attention as there were just the two of us on the trip. We're hugely grateful to Tadeo and highly recommend all travellers to take this tour!

My daughter and I went together. I'm convinced this is the best way to get familiar with Tijuana! Carlos was very knowledgeable and personable!

Good experience. Nice guide! The meeting point was not where they said it was. You had to cross the border by yourself.

We had such a good time with various activities & sightseeings during the tour.
It was very well organized and balanced with full of fun experiences in Tijuana.
We met the 1st guide, Andres Castillo who guided us till we met the 2nd tour guide, Humberto in Mexico side. Andres was at the meeting point early enough to welcome us. He was responsive and kind. Our 2nd tour guide, Humberto Juarez was beyond amazing!!! He took our group to the unique & interesting areas in the city and guided for us to view memorable and great places. He explained and instructed very well. I will give Humberto 10+ stars if possible. Everything was just beyond the expectations and went very well. However, it took us 3 hours and 40 minutes waiting in line to go back to the US. People said that it was not normal and there were computer malfunctions on US customs which was the reason why there had to be a long line and wait. I don’t know if that was true or not but we were told that it would be about an hour to come back to the US. Anyways, it was fun and memorable experience even if we were extremely tired waiting in line to come back to the US. I highly recommend the tour if you haven’t experienced the walk-tour to Tijuana. I tell you what… I can actually forget the tiredness waiting in line to come back to the US because the tour was such a great experience. Thank you Andres and Thank you again tremendously to Humberto.

At first, my sister and I originally wanted to go to Tijuana alone for the day as we were staying in San Diego and wanted to break it up a bit. We were advised by many SD locals to either not go at all, or alternatively go with a tour guide. Which is what we did and we are SO glad we did. Tania was such a lovely tour guide who knew everything, where to go, what to see, all the facts about Mexico. From museums, to walking around markets, to tequila tasting, to eating quesadillas - what a great experience in Mexico, so worth it. The 4.5 hours was all you needed. We also felt super safe and not only Tijuana is so much cheaper than California, it was also much cheaper than when I went Cancun back in 2022 and Ensenada last year. I would highly recommend it to encounter a beautiful culture (as clearly in America there isn’t one). Another thing to note is that you have 2 options to get back to the USA border, either wait 3-5 hours in the queue at border control or take a bus which costs $10 per person to get through. They said it could take about an hour in the bus, but surprisingly since it was a Saturday evening it only took us 10 mins, so I would certainly recommend this. Thank you Tania for a great day!

The tour guide Tadeo was fantastic. The tour included a bus ride, food and drinks at several taco eateries, and tequila tasting! We saw some of the major historic sites in downtown Tijuana and got to do some shopping also. We brought our 9 year old also and it was plenty family friendly for him, we all had a great time!

Tadeo was amazing! Informative, funny and engaging. Easy pickup and drop off so no concerns in that end. We had a great time and highly recommend.

Was a really fun tour! Tadeo was amazing and we had a great time with him. The meet up and border crossing getting into Mexico was easy, we had someone from Border Tours accompany us which made it much less intimidating. On the way back to the US, Tadeo walked us back to customs which was also easy but the line was crazy long. We had global entry so it was a breeze but if you don’t, factor in a pretty long wait. Otherwise highly recommend! A trip highlight for us. Thanks Tadeo and Happy Birthday!!!

Wonderfull tour with an amazing tour guide. Felt that we really saw some of the less known things in Tijuana. Can only recommend

We did a lot in a few hours and Marisol was a fantastic guide. It was a great cultural experience and I learned a lot. Be sure to budget a couple of ours on the way back when crossing the border.

Seeing picture of what Tijuana used to look like years ago versus now. I loved the history and development of the city

One of the best experience of my life! I always dreamed to cross the border between USA and Mexico and I couldn't ask for anything more. Humberto is a very nice person who knows everything about Tijuana. The best moment was when we did the tequila tasting. I felt safe ALL the time, Tijuana has special vibes! 🇲🇽🌮☀️
IMPORTANT: feedbacks where people say you have to cross the border alone are old and outdated. That problem was only during Covid-19, but now they are perfectly organized. You'll meet at McDonald's in San Ysidro with Andres, a very nice guys who will take you to the border checking. No problems, I didn't even find queue to come back! Only 10 minutes despite everyone says 3 hours. I think it depends on the hours, in the afternoon in quiter. Definitely recommended to everyone. Thank you Humberto and Andres!

Tadeo was a great guide. Took me to authentic eatery and gave me time to view history museum. He tailored trip to my interests. Felt totally safe but still exposed to Tijuana locals.

Mary was an awesome tour guide, she was very helpful and informative, knows her stuff. Felt very safe and got immersed in the culture.
She's friendly and personable.
Definitely worth the tour, glad we did it.

The tour guide never showed up at the location communicated on the USA side. Instead he texted me and asked me to meet him at the Mexico side. His English is very hard to understand, I don't feel comfortable at all to walk across the border to find him in the crowd. I didn't join him, but he never refund me either. Poor organization and communication. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.

Sorry that you fill this way but not reading instructions sent a day before makes it difficult to understand the process. We are an organized and well communicated business. Back in Jan we respond why a refund was not approved.

Our guides were wonderful: knowledgeable, helpful and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and informed. So much fun too! Everything was well planned for us, and they were sure to include historic and cultural places, food, shopping and cultural immersion. I couldn't have asked for a better tour!
Pauline_S, Apr 2024
Food and drink was great, tour guide was brilliant. It was a great day. Only problem was the 2 hour queue to get back across the border.
Cerise_C, Apr 2024
Our tour guide is super friendly. He gave us some useful tips to travel to Tijuana. We enjoyed it a lot!
Kim_G, Apr 2024
Tadeo was the best host we have had in all our tours in any city. He is very knowledgeable on the history and culture of Tijuana and other parts of Mexico. He made sure everyone was happy and understood. The different sites were amazing . Thanks for the great tour !!
Avin_U, Apr 2024
We accidentally drove into Tijuana instead of walking over the border. Our anxiety level was through the roof!
Thankfully Border Tours was right there to rescue us, sending none other than the famous Tadeo! We got a tour guide, certified local, history major, and standup comedian all in one!
Thank you Tadeo for the incredible time, for showing us where to eat and shop, and for rescuing us in Tijuana! Greetings from the Philippines and LA :)
