Walking tour of Italian market and Italian section of Philly. Food was brought to a central location and we sat and had a picnic style at the end. All delicious

This tour of the Philadelphia "Italian" Market was eye-opening and wonderful. Our guide Barry was a fountain of information and led us through the streets explaining the deep history of the area, including the beautiful mosaics on so many buildings in the area created by a local artist. These were so breathtaking. Another fun fact was the amount of murals painted on the neighborhood buildings, all by local groups of citizens and youngsters. We learned so much about the culture of the area, and sampled many local delicious staples including Bin Mi pork and chicken sandwiches (Vietnamese) and tomato pie. Barry was a very good leader and teacher, and made this tour very enjoyable.

This was a great tour of and around the Italian Market. We got to try food we definitely would have missed had we not done this tour. The guide was very fun and knowledgeable and made each person (of the 12 on it) feel special and more aware of what Philadelphia had to offer!

Great experience didn’t know the market was down there. Also from not eating breakfast or lunch we were filled up by the end of it. Chick was awesome and very informative.

Nina was great and knew I could not eat dairy so she adjusted the tour perfectly. I even picked up some great olive oils. The tomato pie was the best!!! Super yummy.

Lisa_L, May 2025
To start with our tour guide was excellent. His name was Adam, and he took us to places we would’ve never known existed, and they weren’t just for food which was super nice. It was the tour of the Italian market yet the only Italian food that we had was 1/2 of a cannoli and 1/2 of a piece of tomato pie. We had two Mexican stops, and one Korean stop. This was not what we expected, variety is nice, but expected more Italian food while exploring the Italian market. Portions were small we had to split a piece of tomato pie and we had to split a cannoli. If you’ve ever tried to eat 1/2 of an cannoli, it’s extremely messy, and my son and husband were looking for food when the tour was over. I was comfortably full. For what we paid, I think full portions would’ve been better

Walking tour of working class neighborhood that has lots of “off the beaten path,” family food and beverage establishments, steeped in Americana. Our guide Chuck is a local who shares the local-enjoyable experience all around. Things to know: walking shoes better than heels, there are bathrooms and places to sit along the tour. Plenty to satisfy re the “little bit of this… little bit of that” food we ate. Our favorites tomato pie and cannoli … but there’s banh mi sandwich, gelato, taco… skip breakfast the morning you tour. This is a bit of Philly history away from the known American Revolution.
Lori_P, May 2025
This was an awesome tour lead by Chuck. He had so much interesting information to share about the market and surrounding neighborhoods. Come hungry, because we ate a LOT of delicious food!!

Jerome_F, Nov 2024
The history of the Italian market along with the new resturants gave a nice mix of vibrancy. Our guide was super knowledge about not only the resturants that we visited, but also other non-eateries.
Nicole_F, Nov 2024
