Itinerary
Join your coach in central Adelaide for the drive across the Fleurieu Peninsula to Cape Jervis, where you catch the ferry for a cruise across Backstairs Passage to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. Upon arrival, board another coach for your tour of the island.
Begin your Kangaroo Island experience at Seal Bay Conservation Park to witness Australian sea lions lazing on the beach; take a coastal walk with a National Parks ranger for an up-close look at the colony.
Next, visit Flinders Chase National Park on the rugged southwest coast of the island to walk among the granite boulders known as the Remarkable Rocks. See the rock archway known as Admirals Arch, admire Cape du Couedic, and watch long-nosed fur seals as they play and relax.
Cap off your stay at Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park, where keepers will help you feed kangaroos, introduce you to koalas, and explain marsupial lifestyles and habits.
Live commentary from your driver/guide enhances your tour, which also includes a delicious 2-course lunch.
When your time on the island is up, head back to the ferry landing, watching for more kangaroos along the way, for your journey back to the mainland, where your coach brings you back to the pickup point.

Exceptional. I would re-book this tour again. It’s very long but worth it. Bring lots of snacks. The lunch was delicious. All personnel were helpful and extremely knowledgeable(a special thanks to our guide Joanne). The staff at the parks were helpful and kind. It is apparent the staff is committed to providing a better environment for the animal species on the island. Kangaroo Island was an incredible experience. Our only regret was we didn’t stay overnight!

Overall highly recommended if you don’t have a lot of time but want to experience the highlights of the island! It’s a very very long day but definitely worth it if you’ve only got a day.
My big caveat is for vegetarians. We knew lunch would be provided and it was, but it was a chicken salad with chicken removed. There’s a huge difference between lunch with filling protein and lunch without, so we were already much hungrier than the meat eaters. Making matters way worse, there were virtually no opportunities to buy food and by 7pm when we were all back at the ferry the one option was the bare bones cafe that had almost exclusively meat options (there was one fruit salad which we shared). 16 hours with a vegetable salad and a fruit salad to sustain you isn’t remotely enough; we wound up at Hungry Jack’s in Adelaide along with the other vegetarians at 10pm, haha. This feels like a big issue and one anyone with dietary restrictions should be aware of in advance! Definitely pack sandwiches and other hearty things with protein or you will be very hungry and grumpy.

Our guide, Richard, was so informative and really made this tour. Even though it is a long day, Richard’s commentary made the time fly by. Well spaced stops. Highly recommend if you only have one day to see Kangaroo Island.
He_Z, Apr 2026
To learn the local history and to see the amazing beauty of nature and the close look at those wild seals.
Joseph_C, Apr 2026
Awesome Experience. One Day was not enough.
Next Time it's going to be the 2 Day Experience.
The Tour Guide waa Great and the Lunch was Also.
Ilinka_S, Apr 2026
Very well organised including the bus transfers to and from the ferry. Our guide on the island was very knowledgeable with loads of interesting information, great way to experience the wildlife and natural sights of the island in one day.

Really enjoyed the tour. The coastal and rock formations were far better than I anticipated. The tour was very organized.
Mark_M, Apr 2026
Be prepared for a long day with lots of travel but well worth it. A decent amount of walking & stairs.
Philippa_C, Apr 2026
Excellent way to see highlights of Kangaroo Island in a day. Saw everything we wanted to see although didn’t have a full hour at the animal sanctuary so that part of the trip was rushed. Suggest visiting the animal sanctuary first. For a lot of us on the trip seeing the animals was a key experience especially for those coming from abroad.

This was a long day of travel to experience kangaroo island setting off from Adelaide City. Be prepared for hours spent in a bus! That being said, the drivers/guides to get to the ferry (Rick) and tour the island (Will) were excellent with their stories and information keeping us entertained so that the hours passed quickly. A map was provided so we could follow the route, lunch was tasty and we had a great day exploring the geology and getting close and personal with the seals, koalas and kangaroos

Hi David,
Thanks for taking the time to share your experience!
It really is a big day out to Kangaroo Island, and we appreciate your feedback on this. While it’s a long day, it’s also a really special opportunity for guests who don’t have the time for a longer stay to still experience a glimpse of the island’s beauty and stunning scenery.
We’re so glad to hear Rick and Will helped make the journey feel shorter with their stories and knowledge along the way.
Sounds like you made the most of the day — the wildlife encounters and coastal scenery are pretty unforgettable, so it’s great to hear you enjoyed getting up close with the seals, koalas and kangaroos. Glad you enjoyed the lunch too, and found the map useful.
Thanks again for joining us — we’re really pleased you had a great day overall.
All the best,
Mara

Very very long day but jampacked with amazing sights & wildlife on KI (Kangaroo Island). A lovely island with spectacular scenery on the southern coast at Remarkable Rocks & Admiral Arch. Saw echidnas, kangaroos, Australian sea lions, black fur seals & eagles in the wild. Well worth the 16 hour day. Our guide was wonderful & very knowledgeable
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Hi Valerie,
Thank you for your lovely review.
It certainly is a very full day, so we really appreciate you highlighting that — and we’re so glad you felt it was well worth it. Kangaroo Island really does pack in some incredible sights, especially along the southern coast.
It sounds like you had some amazing wildlife encounters too — seeing echidnas, sea lions, seals and even eagles in the wild is always something special.
We’re also pleased to hear your guide made a great impression with their knowledge throughout the day. Thanks again for travelling with us, and we’re so glad you had a fun and memorable KI experience!
Warm regards,
Mara

It was a long but fun day. We actually saw more wild kangaroos on our journey to Kangaroo Island than on Kangaroo Island. The Remarkable Rocks and Admiral’s Arch were unusual and beautiful formations. We saw many sea lions at close range at Seal Bay which was an incredible sight. Lunch was very good. The only complaint was that we only had 30 minutes at the wildlife sanctuary which definitely wasn’t enough time. We were able to hold a koala for $45 AUD and give other koalas a pat(even a baby) which was an amazing experience.
Sharon_K, Mar 2026
The Island has so many things to see and do. Between watching seals, climbing rocks, walking beautiful paths through the park and feeding kangaroos and petting koalas. You cannot go wrong.
Kathleen_T, Feb 2026
The bus trip was exellent. There were several sites that required strenuous walking (steep stairs and lack of time to get from A to B and back again).
If you have a mobility disabiliy - just be aware that to get to some of the sties, there is a lot of walking - some steep stairs and there is limited time to get to a site and back again.
It is a long day out - nonetheless, this trip is a good option for a solo traveller.

Getting instructions and schedule of the day are difficult and one has to figure it out since not much information is provided at the time of purchase.
Rodney_H, Feb 2026
the guide (Richard) was a wealth of information. The whole day was very well organized, and logistically took care of all head aches associated with travel. Each animal we saw was cuter than the one before.
Robert_G, Feb 2026
A well-run long day of travel and seeing so much beauty on Kangaroo Island! Our local guide Richard was a fountain of information and did an amazing job sharing it with us. The lunch we were served was top notch. A perfect day!!!
Virginia_H, Feb 2026
This is an amazing experience and would highly recommend. Know that it’s about a 90 min bus drive to start, however bus was very comfortable and in the hills there were lots of kangaroos. On the island our driver Richard was 10/10. Great stories, good info, safe driver. Be prepared for it to be very windy and cold- even in the midst of summer. Every stop is beautiful, lots of driving between each stop but honestly it was very relaxing- lots of little naps. Really delicious lunch as well. If traveling from abroad bring a charger as there’s no service and our phones were draining the battery. Also, if a koala cuddle is offered at the sanctuary DO IT!
Elizabeth_P, Feb 2026
Great day with lots to see. Enjoyed learning about the wildlife. Spotted some koalas and kangaroos in the wild. Also enjoyed learning and seeing the colonies of seals in their natural habitat as well. Richard was an excellent driver and tour guide. His knowledge of the island and wildlife is remarkable. Wish we’d have had more time at the animal sanctuary to see more of the animals. Felt rushed snd that’s what I was looking forward to the most. However, I know there are time restraints to get back to the ferry. Long day but well worth it.
Clare_A, Feb 2026
A very long day but definitely worth it. Lots to see. We were lucky as it rained a little so the kangaroos came out to drink by the roadside which was excellent. Our tourist guide was very knowledgeable and the whole day was very interesting and informative.
RClarissa_H, Feb 2026
There are long stretches where no food or water is provided. If prepared, this would not have been a problem but I did not know and so had not brought my own supplies.
Jonathan_D, Feb 2026
A very, very long day on busses although probably the best way to experience the island if you don’t have multiple days.
Sergio_O, Feb 2026
Great experience, very fun and interesting tour.
All the places were absolutely beatiful, the driver so much fun
Richard_F, Feb 2026
This is a full and action-packed day. We'll worth it, but be prepared for a 16+ hour day if you're doing the return trip from Adelaide. Lots of time for resting too though, while on the bus or ferry and a great restaurant-based lunch was included. 🙂 Driver: Richard was a wealth of local information!
Evans_W, Jan 2026
Total trip is 16 hours. A very long day and the majority of your time is spent on an uncomfortable bus with very tight seats. They offer you no water the entire day. Mediocre lunch and no dinner at all. Just a 10-minute stop at the grocery store for you to quote. Pick up some snacks" the sites in kangaroo Island are simply not worth a 16-hour experience. Bus ride home was horrible, packed and dropping off numerous people ,not on our tour, at various locations. Not worth the money. Not worth the time. . .
Jennifer_B, Jan 2026
I really enjoyed this tour. Richard, our driver and guide, was very knowledgeable and communicated extremely well. We were given plenty of notice regarding availability of food, water, and toilets as well as honest explanations of the physical ability required for different aspects of each stop. While it is a long day, I thought it was well worth the trip!
Mary_W, Jan 2026
We had a wonderful time seeing the sights of Kangaroo Island, especially loved feeding the kangaroos and petting the koalas!! Our lunch was delicious and the coach bus rides were very comfortable. I would highly recommend this experience when you are in Australia.
Michelle_Y, Jan 2026
The experience was very enjoyable, mainly because of our tour guide, Richard. His knowledge of Kangaroo island was incredible and his stories were so entertaining I was not bored even though the bus trip was long.
I would like to say that there were many chances for water and snacks. There were drinks and snacks at most places except Remarkable Rocks and the archway. There were drinks and snacks on the ferry. Richard also let us stop at IGA before the ferry home where there was many things to buy. I noticed some reviews told us below said otherwise, so I wanted to make sure you knew there is places to eat and drink.
The lunch is a chicken salad and cheesecake. Dietary restrictions wete catered to and the food was delicious. They even had a bar.
Definitely try this tour if you love animals. We got to be on the beach with the seals and I patted a baby koala.
I would also like to say it was refreshing to see there were wheelchair access ramps so the experiences catered to a wide range of people.
Well done for creating such an excellent experience.

Well worth the time and money spent on this tour. It was professional, timely and all the aspects of a group tour that made it fun and exciting. Yes it’s a long day however, it never dulls and goes by clockwork so the day went so fast. Enough time at each venue. The Adelaide bus driver was informative and easy to listen to. He held a captive audience at 639am. The KI guide/driver , Hamish, was outstanding. Hamish was serious yet funny, approachable, patient, knew his stats and his commentary flowed so smoothly. Again he showed his passion for the island, his job and the information he delivered.

The trip was amazing . The guide was really engaging and very knowledgeable. Visiting kangaroo island was on my bucket list and was very very excited to visit , and the place was even more beautiful than I imagined . The food was great !
But I was waiting on my entire trip for something, as I informed earlier that it was my husband’s birthday and if they could do anything just to make the day and the trip more memorable. I think some miscommunication happened or I donno what , I got informed through an email that , they have taken this into notice and would do some about it , but I was a little disappointed as nothing happened .
Ian_P, Dec 2025
This trip was the highlight of my time in Adelaide. My guide was immensely knowledgeable and had many engaging and exciting stories to share about the many parts of the island. The highlights we saw on the tour were all nothing short of incredible as well. I cannot recommend this experience enough!
