Aktau is a mountainous sedimentary massif, which reaches a height of 1000 meters and a length of 5 kilometers. The total area of the ridge is 50 square kilometers. It lies in the east of the Almaty region, in the Kerbulak region of the natural park. From the east it is bounded by the Kalshalysek tract, the valley of the dried up rivers Kokterek and Bokabaidyn-Ashasy. The sands of Aigaikum are located in the south. Aktau is called a "dead" mountain because nothing grows on it. Another name for the protected area is the Museum of the Earth's Past. Aktau consists of colored stones, the age of which, according to various sources, is 60,000,000 years. The mountain is a set of sandstone, red clay, pink carnelian, jasper and white quartz.

A day trip for the natural wonders of Kazakhstan

It's was a wonderful experience to see these beautiful places. Our tour guide Ayau from Kazahstan Very Nice was so friendly and accomodating...She shared a lot of the history of the country. She gave a lot of info about the places that we have visited. The Charyn Canyon (Valley of Castles). By walking down below the canyon, I was mesmerized by the dramatic red rock formations and the towering sandstones walll. It was indeed like a castles. We also visited the Black and Mloon Canyon. The best part of the trip is visiting the 2 lakes. Kolsai and Kaindy Lake. The Kolsai lake was a paradise with a peaceful surroundings. The view was so stunning and beautiful perfect for relaxing and taking amazing photographs. The crystal-clear turqouise alpine water plus the pine forest wiith the snow-capped mountains on the background makes you wonder that a place like this exist. The boardwalk strolls and hearing the rushing waters on the river was a perfect melody that natures could bring. Seeing the Kaindy's famous submerged tree trunks that has been kept alive for many years makes you feel that you are stepping into a fairytale surrounded by nature and tranquikity. .The reflections of the mountains and the pine trees makes the lake alive. The entire journey was filled with incredible views, fresh mountain air and countless photos. Kazakhstan's natural beauty is truly underrated and these places are absolute must visit destinations if you are a nature lover, love adventures and breathtaking landscapes. Every destination was worth visiting and the memory will last a lifetime.

Fantastic tour with an amazing guide

This tour has been amazing from start to finish thanks to our fantastic guide, Axsultan. Communication on the WhatsApp group was very smooth and Ax provided all the practical information we needed with many details, from the weather forecast at each sightseeing location to the exact schedule and what we should bring. Pick-up in Almaty was available at 3 locations and was on time. During the tour, we had enough time at all sightseeing locations (about 2 hours at each location) and everyone was on time. The weather was very cold, but the temperature inside the bus was always warm and comfortable, and the seats were also comfortable. We had enough stops for restrooms and food and everything was well organized. Ax provided interesting information on a wide range of topics throughout the trip and made everyone feel comfortable with his positive energy and kindness. He made sure we all had a good time and enjoyed our trip to the fullest, and he created a good atmosphere in the group. The trip definitely would not have been the same without him. It was one of the best tours I’ve ever done. As for the sightseeing locations, it was a beautiful mix of different landscapes, and we didn’t drive for too long between each spots (1h30-2 hour max). It’s definitely worth taking the 2 days 1 night tour - 1 day would be rushing it. The tour was very informative and Ax gave it an inspirational touch with his love for nature. I would recommend this tour to everyone who wants to visit Kazakhstan. Thank you!

It was a fantastic experience traveling to the canyons and the lakes. Charyn canyon visit did take time and we managed to reach and get back just in time. Our tour guide Ms.Ai was exceptional, with her narrations, humor and ability to keep the group in high spirits. Kudos to her. The vehicle was rather cramped but manageable for a day trip. Wish they'd used a bigger van.

We had a fabulous experience in our private tour to the canyons and the lakes. Zandhos was our private guide and he gave us a splendid experience. He was calm, composed and trustworthy. This was by far the best tour I've been on, and it was entirely due to my guide, Alan. Astana is a fascinating city, but Alan elevated this experience even more with his incredible knowledge and genuine passion for the Kazakh people and culture. There are guides... and then there are guides of Alan's level. I have taken many tours and never had a guide like Alan. All in all, this is a great introduction to some of Astana's incredible sights. If you have limited time in Astana, highly recommend this tour. If you can get Alan as your guide, it will be even better.
