2 Days in Jaco for First Timers

Curated by Juniper Roselifelong outdoor adventure seeker.

With world-class surfing, a vibrant vacation scene, and nearby outdoor activities, Jaco is an ideal destination for beach lovers, surfers, and adventure junkies. So, whether you want to relax at a luxury resort, zipline through the rainforest, or party the night away in the lively downtown, here’s how to make the most of two days in Jaco.

Day 1: Morning

Begin your seaside vacation with a visit to Jaco Beach, where it's easy to relax on the white sand or jump into the region’s famous surf scene. Numerous surf schools along the beach make it easy to get started with a lesson or board rental, regardless of your surfing experience.

Day 1: Afternoon

Now that you’ve spent the quintessential morning on Jaco Beach, it’s time to branch out and see more of the surrounding waters. Active travelers explore the emerald bays on a sea kayaking and snorkeling tour, while those looking for a relaxing getaway escape the crowds on a catamaran tour to a secluded beach.

Day 2: Morning

Thrill-seekers start off the second day in Jaco with an off-road adventure into the rainforest. There try high-octane activities such as ziplining, rappelling, climbing, and jumping off waterfalls. Or, to explore the jungle without the adrenaline, book a guided hiking excursion and enjoy Costa Rica’s waterfalls and wildlife.

Day 2: Afternoon

For more excitement and a different perspective on the forests and oceans, soar over the picturesque coastline on a paragliding tour. A tandem flight with an experienced instructor means you get to relax and take photos on the flight.

Day 2: Night

Finish your stay in Jaco with a traditional Costa Rican cooking class that's set in a home kitchen. Experience the local culture while learning to make an array of authentic dishes. Plus, enjoy your own home-cooked meal after the class.
