Great day with Wendy, Avatar Mountains and Glass Bridge
We had a great day at the national forest with Wendy. The park is huge and very difficult to navigate as a Westerner. It was helpful to have Wendy quickly get us from spot to spot. The only challenging part of the trip is that there is quite a long wait time for the elevator and buses. It sounds like there is a VIP pass that can be purchased a day in advance so it might be worth investigating that if you’re going and open to the extra cost. It will save a lot of time.

Excellent Two-Day Intro to the Area
We booked a two-day small group tour covering the Avatar Mountains, the canyon, and Tianmen Mountain, and overall everything was very well organized. From pickup in the morning to drop-off at the hotel, the logistics were seamless and clearly well managed, which made the entire experience smooth and enjoyable. A special mention goes to our guide on the second day, Liz, who took us through the canyon and Tianmen Mountain. She brought a wonderful energy to the group—warm, engaging, and consistently positive throughout a very long day. Her enthusiasm was contagious and truly enhanced the experience for everyone. Liz was also extremely knowledgeable. She started with a clear and insightful introduction to the region, including the local Tujia culture, and continued to provide context and explanations at every site we visited. Her English was excellent, making everything easy to follow and understand. Despite a full 12-hour day, she remained attentive, proactive, and always smiling. She also took great photos for everyone and made sure each person felt taken care of. Overall, Liz is both a fantastic guide and a genuinely lovely person—we would highly recommend this tour.

Zhangjiajie Mountains (aka: Avatar Mountains)
This place is magical but get ready to walk…A LOT! Get a guide! It can be very difficult to navigating the different buses that you you need to take, especially if you don’t speak Chinese. Avoid national holidays and the summer months as the lines can become unbearable (several hours long). Best times of year to visit are spring and fall. Although avoid the national holiday week in early October. Lastly, definitely get a guide. We booked the 2 day tour and our guide, Bingle was exceptional!

Winnie is one of the best tour guides!
Exceptional from start to finish and I think a lot of that was made enjoyable and humorous with our tour guide, Winnie. The mountains and natural formations really spoke for themselves, and with a clear day in April they were a fantastic sight. No qualms whatsoever with this tour, and a guide I can only highly recommend!
