Trench of the Bayonets (Tranchée des Baionnettes)

The site is a gravesite and marks the resting place of the soldiers. Be prepared for a somber place of reflection. While the original bayonets are long gone, you can still see rifles peeking out from the ground.
Put aside 20-30 minutes to visit.
There’s no charge to enter the Trench of the Bayonets, and on-site parking is free.
Of the 21 soldiers discovered at the site, 14 were exhumed and buried in the national necropolis of Fleury-les-Aubrais. Seven have not been able to be identified and remain unknown soldiers.
Pay special attention to the metallic door that leads to the Trench of the Bayonets memorial. This is the work of French metalsmith Edgar Brandt, who also produced the bronze flame holder on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
