Jeff was our driver/guide for the day and he was excellent - he picked us up promptly and we asked to deviate from the standard tour and see some specific sights, which was no problem - we visited the Goddess of Mercy temple, a couple of local villages, Kek Lok Si Temple, Penang Hill, and ended with a walk around the Armenian Street area of Georgetown. Jeff accompanied us as we walked around, and was able to tell us all about the things we were seeing and the buildings we were walking in/through - his knowledge was amazing1 Highly recommend this trip - it can be varied, from the calmness in the hills to the hustle and bustle of Georgetown - and the itinerary can be flexible if required. If you get Jeff as your guide you will definitely get lots of valuable insights and information.

The boat departure point for the island is Bukit Merah Laketown Resort, which was about an hour's drive away from Georgetown (from being picked up at 8am). The boat runs on a schedule so we did have to wait about half an hour once we arrived at the departure point, but that time was easily filled by going into the small visitor centre they have there. The boat ride is only a few minutes and you get about an hour on the island itself. A resident warden/guide took us around, telling us stories about the Orang-utans and the conservation work. Our guide Ronnie also accompanied us, he tried to entice the animals nearer with fruit bribes! - he is an experienced guide and knows the individual Orang-utans and their personalities. This was an amazing trip, well worth doing. Ronnie in particular was a great guide, we learnt a lot from him during the trip about Penang and Malaysia in general, not just about the Orang-utans. Highly recommended. Also recommend that you take some mosquito/insect spray with you!

Joey skillfully created a 6-hour private tour for us in Penang during our day trip from Singapore yesterday. Before meeting him at the airport, we were worried about doing too much or too little during the tour, but he included just the right number of attractions. We, of course, wished we'd had a bit more time to explore other sites, and at the same time, we were so glad he didn't try to show us more, because visiting a few significant sites in a day was just enough for our style of travelling.
