Join us on a journey through Hiroshima's past as we explore what happened when the world's first atomic bomb was dropped over the city and what happened next. Most visitors to Hiroshima learn about the devastation of August 6, 1945. But Hiroshima's story did not end there. During this walking tour, you'll discover the human impact of the atomic bombing, explore the stories behind Peace Memorial Park and its monuments, and follow Hiroshima's journey from destruction to reconstruction. Along the way, you'll learn about Shinzo Hamai, Hiroshima's first democratically elected mayor and an A-bomb survivor himself. Through his story, we'll explore how Hiroshima rebuilt after the war and transformed from a former military center into an international symbol of peace. By the end of the tour, you'll understand not only what Hiroshima was, but also what its people chose to build afterward and why the city continues to advocate for a world free of nuclear weapons.
