We started this winter trekking experience from El Calafate. Upon arriving at El Chaltén, we made a stop to use the bathrooms and adjust the necessary equipment: crampons, canes and backpacks. The tour begins with an initial kilometer ascending a steep slope, leading to the impressive "Virador Río de las Vueltas", a natural balcony that we reach in approximately 30 minutes. From there, we will begin a 6 km trek through the Frías River valley, getting closer and closer to the imposing glaciers. Along the way we will witness a landscape in constant change, surrounded by majestic Grande, Cubo and Dickson glaciers, which spill their ice towards the Frías Superior Lagoon. We will have lunch on the shores of the Frías Superior Lagoon if the wind conditions allow it.

We spent an afternoon in the countryside visiting the main facilities of Estancia 25 de Mayo, where you can enjoy a chat around the stove, to learn about local history, life in Patagonian ranches and life of the pioneers of El Calafate. There is a demonstration of herding and shearing in the old warehouse.
