Exciting day with knowledgeable guides

I would recommend having at least some kayaking experience before booking this, because I struggled as a novice, but our guides, Tyler and Joel, were great. If you have an adventurous spirit and can listen, you will do fine as a beginner. My husband absolutely loved this, and because we had two guides and just one other experienced kayaker with us, he was able to experience the more challenging rapids with Tyler, while Joel helped me stick to the calmer side of the river. Our guides made sure we were safe the whole way and gave us an in-depth safety briefing with a reminder during our break. I was surprised how sensitive the kayaks were; it's almost too easy to maneuver them. I'd say there is a good chance you can tip out and start floating down the river, and I did. Don't panic (like I did!) and listen to your guide. The river and its views are beautiful, and I learned a lot about New Zealand from Tyler as we made our way down the river. Joel seemed to have a ton of experience and was a total Godsend for me. The second part of the trip after the break is a bit rougher, and after dumping out into the river, I was really uneasy. Joel stuck with me the whole way and even towed me when I got too nervous to go through the last rapid on my own. I might have had a meltdown had he not been there! Don't let that discourage you though. I am a total play-it-safe type and I'm not a strong swimmer, and I still had a lot of fun! Joel was an amazing guide!
