Overall I enjoyed the tour and found our tour guide Paola quite knowledgeable. She clearly knew her way around and a lot about the history of the city.
This is a good tour to do early on during your time in Utrecht so you can get your bearings and figure out what you want to do next.
Although I liked that it was a tip-based tour, it meant that our tour group was quite large, which I didn't care for. It made it harder to ask questions unless you were quite close to the guide.
That said, I found the other members of the tour to be quite friendly as well and Paola gave good suggestions re: canal boat tours. One of the other attendees and I ended up going on a KINboat canal ride after the tour and it was great!
Although I learned a lot on the tour and would recommend it to others, I think they should limit the amount of people on it as it would make it more enjoyable. (I believe there were over 20 of us on this walking tour.) Also, there should be clearer instructions on where the starting point is as it was a little confusing and hard to find the tour guide at the beginning.

Very little substance … lots of repetition. It could all have been done in less than half an hour. We both left early. The lady guide had a strong voice, which was a plus.
Response from Host, Jul 2026

We always aim to offer an engaging and informative walking tour with good storytelling and local insight, so we are disappointed to hear that this was not your experience. Your comments about the content and repetition are helpful, and we will use this feedback to improve the tour.

Our English guide Jerry was terrific!!!
He pointed out so many things and we learned so much history. Very informative and entertaining. We especially appreciated his keeping us in the shade as much as possible due to the hot weather. Would recommend any tour he leads.

It was a really nice experience! Jeffrey is really funny and has a lot of interesting information. His way of explaining makes you remember all these information, I bet other people will be impressed by your knowledge after the tour :)

A very personable and knowledgeable guide showed us around the heart of historic Utrecht, centering on the Dom area and the 2 main canals. Be sure you are OK with walking up and down a few sets of steep stone steps and over uneven brick walkways. It is a very old and interesting city!

Jerry was our guide. He was wonderful and very informative. Had pictures to show of people and places at many of the stops.
Gillian_H, Mar 2026
It was more entertaining than factually accurate. The guide was well spoken and friendly. I was dissapointed when I discovered that we had been misinformed several times on the tour.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Hi Gilian,
Thank you for your review and for taking the time to share your experience with us. We’re really glad to hear you found the guide entertaining, friendly, and well spoken, that’s always something we aim for.
At the same time, we’re genuinely sorry to hear you felt that parts of the tour were not factually accurate. That’s something we take very seriously, as we always try to balance engaging storytelling with reliable historical information.
Would you mind sharing a bit more detail about what felt inaccurate to you? Which stories or moments stood out as misinformation? Your feedback would really help us look into this and improve both our content and guide training.
Thanks again for your honest feedback, and we hope to hear a bit more from you.
All the best,
Tim

We enjoyed our walking tour with Paula. She was very kind and knowledgeable. We learned a lot about the history of the city and the university and churches. We enjoyed the exploring of the old and new canals and learned about the reason the canals in Utrecht are differently constructed from those in other parks of the Netherlands. Very enjoyable tour.

This was a great tour of Utrecht. The city is a fun, close by alternative to Amsterdam. We learned a lot about the city in a short amount of time.

Our guide wasn’t very good. More facts would make the tour more interesting, and better speaking abilities would be helpful as well.

It was a good, basic historical tour of Utrecht . My favorite part was walking along the canals and getting to see the inside of a house and the room that connects to the canal .

The unknown church that you will miss if Jeffrey didn't show us. And the Belgium pub that used to be a church. And the story about Adrian!
Melissa_G, Jul 2024
Tim our guide was excellent. He was enthusiastic about the history of Utrecht which made the tour enjoyable. Fantastic tour to do in such a beautiful city. Thank you Tim. 🙏🙏
Hans_I, May 2026
Our local guide, Ruud is a very enthusiastic person. He mixes history with fun anecdotes.
Takes plenty of time for everyone in the group.
The tour is doable, because the distances between the sights are small.
Ruud also keeps a close eye on safety and temperature (shade the group in hot weather)
