This tour was a fantastic way to see the city of Rotterdam and taste a variety of local cuisine. The foods we tasted were surprising and also filling. Enjoyed each one highlighting a different culture in Rotterdam. Perry our guide did a great job explaining how the cultures have made it to Rotterdam and how their foods influenced each area. During our tour he also highlighted many architectural features throughout the city. It was an amazing tour and Perry was absolutely the best. Be prepared to walk as you cover a lot of ground.
Response from Host, Oct 2025
Dear Steve,
Thanks for this nice review, I will certainly let Perry know as well!
Best,
Paul.

My wife and I (75yrs old) have done a couple of dozen food tours around the world. In all seriousness, the was THE BEST (2cd best was a joke for our tour guide). We had 6 food stops and many more cultural and architectural stops. Amesh (I called him MESS!🤣) had perfect English and was over top knowledgeable about Rotterdam’s history, architecture AND food. We hit many of Rotterdam’s highlight areas and a couple off the beaten path. The food was AMAZING! It varied from fried to fresh and from fish to meat to cheeses. Sooooo good. As to MESS, think of the movie Slumdog Millionaire and square root that character and you might come close to approximating MESS encyclopedic vault of knowledge about Rotterdam and the Netherlands. After the tour, the entire tour group (4) went for a final beer and stayed and talked another 2 hrs! Who stays at “work” for two hours without getting paid?!! If you do not take this tour, you are going to leave Rotterdam with half the experience. SCREW THE YANKEES. GO RED SOX!
Response from Host, Jul 2025
Dear John,
This has to be one of the most entertaining reviews we've received in a long time, thanks for bringing a smile to my face! So glad you all enjoyed the city, the food and the company. Umesh is indeed a fabulous guide and we're lucky to be able to work with him. I'll be sure to show him this review as well, he'll love it :). And to finish off in style: Go Feyenoord!
All the best,
Paul.
Barbara_R, Jun 2025
Umesh, our tour guide was absolutely the best! His knowledge of history, culture, politics and art were outstanding! We learned so much on this food tour. The food choices were as diverse as the the people of Rotterdam and all very tasty! We couldn’t have asked for a better way to start our visit in Rotterdam.
Response from Host, Jul 2025
Hi Barbara,
Umesh is really in tune with the city, glad you enjoyed his take on it. And nice that you thought the food was diverse, we try to mirror the cultural diversity in the city with our offerings. Thanks for the review!
Best,
Paul.

This was a great intro to the city, combining bits of history, culture, and public art with food and drink. The food stops each represented local favorites. Despite the blustery weather, Astrid made the day enjoyable and an excellent way to spend a few hours in town.
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Hi!
It wasn't a great day weather-wise, indeed, so nice to hear that you enjoyed the tour anyway :). I'll let Astrid know!
Cheers,
Paul.
Patty_S, Jun 2025

I was sick, tried to cancel but had no way of contacting you to do so. Very bad communicating. Would have appreciated a refund.
Response from Host, May 2025
Hi Brenda,
That's very odd, I didn't receive anything through Viator, mail, Whatsapp or SMS message, no phone call either? No problem to refund you, can you get in touch with me via one of the above methods? All details can be found in your confirmation, or you can just send me a message through Viator.
Thanks,
Paul.
Beverly_B, May 2025
Don't have a big meal before you go. Lots of interesting 'bites.' Our guide, Astrid, was knowledgeable, and very considerate of my slow walking and need for short rest breaks. She even helped me navigate the tram system to get me back to my hotel without the long walk back. It was very much appreciated.
Response from Host, May 2025
Dear Beverly,
Yes I heard that it was quite a distance for you but you managed in the end, well done! I'll relay your compliment to Astrid, thanks for the review.
Best,
Paul.
Susan_P, Apr 2025
A nice way to learn about Rotterdam's culture, history, architecture, and food. Anika was a fabulous guide. The food was diverse and tasty. The tour is 4 + hours so be prepared to do a lot of walking. The food is plentiful so pace yourself. Note that the tour does not end at the same place it started.
Response from Host, Apr 2025
Dear Susan,
Thanks for this lovely review, Annika thoroughly enjoyed showing you around :). Thanks also for the tips, we'll be sure to make them clearer in our text of the tour. Have a great rest of your trip!
Best,
Paul.
Brittany_S, Nov 2024
The tour guide was fantastic and we learned a lot about the city. But, most of the bites were small (not worth $95+ for sure) and the food was shared so better to go in a group. Less of a food tour, more of a walking tour. There was no watertaxi ride, maybe because it was chilly out. Also, we only got one drink not 2 like it said in the description.
Tour guide rating: 5/5
Actual tour: 3/5
Response from Host, Nov 2024
HI Brittany,
Thanks for your feedback. I just checked with the guide, who is quite new, and he actually forgot about one of the stops! You should have had another bite and a drink there, which will have made the difference I think. Some of the bites are shared indeed, because of the nature of them they are better served together (poffertjes, kibbeling, bitterballen), doesn't make sense to give everyone separate (usually plastic) plates.
As for the watertaxi, we stopped offering that on our public tours a while ago because it was impossible to organise consistently. We don't have it in our description anymore so could you let me know where you read this so I can change it?
I'm going to refund you 10,- euros each of your payment for this tour to compensate for the bite and drink, and the watertaxi ride if it was in your description. And I would also like to offer you a 10% reduction on any future booking you do with us, just let me know when and I'll organise it.
Best,
Paul.
Tom_C, Nov 2024
Our guide was knowledgeable and passionate about his city. We actually had 6 small bites instead of 4
Response from Host, Nov 2024
Hi Tom,
Thanks for this, indeed we do 6 bites and 2 drinks on this tour, enough for a big lunch :0. Glad you enjoyed, hope to welcome you again next time!
Best,
Paul.

We ended up doing the self guided tour which was super easy to follow and all the businesses knew who we were right away. It was a rainy day so it was perfect- we did not want to try to figure out something to do for multiple hours. The food was great and was a lunch full plus some- I was happily very full!
Response from Host, Jun 2024
Hi Kristine,

Our guide Astrid was absolutely superb. Not only did we receive a great mix of traditional Dutch food to taste, but items that were well-known in Rotterdam. At the same time, the tour took us all around town and Astrid provided great suggestions on places to visit as well as went in depth on some of the history of the area. This was a great all around food tour and would highly recommend it.

The food choices in and outside the tour in central Rotterdam are mostly from international establishments.

Pam_M, Jun 2023
We thought this was a walking food tour, but it was actually an arts tour with stops for food. We walked all over Rotterdam over the course of 4 hours. We stopped for small bites throughout the day.
Our guide walked quickly explaining the statues and pieces of art. At the end of the tour we were left at the last stop, about a 15 minutes taxi ride to the original starting place- Central Station.
The food was a French fries (Iforgoy to take a pic) 2)chicken satay skewer, 3)chicken curry sandwich, 4) fried fish pieces, 5)donut-like holes, 6) beer and cheese.
Drinks were provided at two stops. If you need to use the restroom, there was one in market place where we had the fish. You will need to pay to use the restroom.
There were 16 people in our group. We took a water taxi to our last stop. We had to share containers of food (donuts and fish)with other people.
While this was a “food” tour, it was really and art/sculpture tour. The food was described to us, but no history behind the food. If you appreciate statues then this is for you. It would have been nice to know more about the architecture of Rotterdam while we were walking. The buildings are incredible. The food was just so-so.
Response from Host, Jul 2023
Dear Pam,
Sorry to hear we didn't quite live up to expectations! To be honest we rarely get comments about the food not being great, see the reviews below. But we will have a critical look again and see where we can further improve our offerings.
Restrooms are available at every stop except the French fries, free of charge, only the one in the Markthal is paid. The final stop is clearly shown in the description, also that it is not in the neighbourhood of the starting point. Sorry these things were not clear enough to you.
Each of our guides has specialties that they like talking about, this is something we encourage. In this case the emphasis was on art and statues, but I will be sure to communicate to the guide in question that she should tell more about the architecture and food as well.
Lastly, there were 16 in the group because we had several potential guides tagging along as well. We normally cap groups at 12 per guide. I think part of the reason that the experience wasn't up to par was the size of the group, my apologies for that and we will make sure it doesn't happen again.
In an interesting turn of events, you are actually our 400th reviewer! I had posted earlier on socials that we would be giving the 400th reviewer a gift, and you are the lucky one :). I will send you two free codes by SMS for our self-guided app tour. You can do this tour in various different cities in The Netherlands the next time you are here.
Hope you enjoy, and thanks for your feedback.
Best,
Paul.

Tim was a fantastic host and guide. He was extremely familiar with the history of Rotterdam, knowledgeable of the multicultural impacts on the city and foods and provided great insights into both. Our tour included current cultural impacts on the local foods and the historical context of many foods. Walking through the city and seeing the local culture up close is a great way to experience Rotterdam. Tim is Very knowledgeable, funny, and had great interaction with the whole group. Highly recommended for anyone interested in getting more in depth into the culture and foods of Rotterdam.
Response from Host, Jun 2023
Hi Joe,
Thanks so much for this, and for also reviewing us on Google, it's really a great help :). Hope to welcome you again in the future!

Paul.
