Nay is the perfect guide

Nay met us at our hotel with the driver of a brand new airconditioned small bus (please note that respectful clothing is required to gain entry to these museums - shoulders and knees should be covered). Nay's English is perfect and made us relaxed from the outset. On the drive to the Killing Fields Nay explained the history that allowed the Khmer Rouge to take power and wreak havoc for nearly 4 years. On arrival we bought our own entrance tickets (as advertised and common to all tours) and Nay then guided us at a steady pace around the Choeung Ek Genocidal Centre (Killing Fields Museum). Nay previously trained as a teacher so is able to convey the truely shocking reality of what occurred at this site without traumatising his clients. Nay also pointed out many things that we could see the other visitors using the audio guides were missing. Nay was also able to answer the many questions you will have when visiting this site. After a short transfer in the minibus we arrived at Toul Sleng (S21) prison / torture centre. Again, Nay was able to convey the horrors of this site in a measured and highly informative way. Nay was also able to introduce us to some of the survivors (8 adults / 2 children / 2 babies) who were still alive when the prison was liberated (which reinforced how recently these events occurred). Due to the atrocities that occurred at these 2 sites, we couldn't describe any such tour as "enjoyable" However, Nay's telling of how the two surviving brothers (11 and 9 at the time) hid themselves and the 2 unrelated babies in the prison long enough to survive, helped restore our faith in human nature - especially when we were able to meet the youngest brother (now 53) and ask him questions (via Nay) about how they were able to keep the babies from revealing their hiding place. If you are planning on taking this tour (and you absolutely should) Nay is the perfect guide.
