I had Ms. Chheang Sreyneang as my guide today. She was incredibly knowledgeable with personal, family stories to add to the overall history of the sites. She told the history like a story and was able to answer any questions I had. The pacing of the tour was ideal. They were even able to pick me up from the airport and stow my luggage in the van. Highly recommend taking time from your vacation to learn more about an important time in recent history and to pay respects to the victims.

Highly recommend anyone visiting Phnom Penh to do this trip. It is very hard hitting but something important to learn about and understand. Our guide, Silong, was incredibly knowledgeable and gave us fascinating insight into the history of the genocide and killing fields. He also gave us great tips for the rest of our time in Cambodia.

Mr. Silong was an outstanding guide who made us more knowledgeable about Cambodia and the complexities of its dark past than any textbook could. He explained things thoroughly and simply for people who did not have significant background context and in an objective manner. We would give this 6 stars if we could. In terms of the day itself it never felt rushed or dragged on, the car is comfortable with plenty of water and a safe driver. I would recommend everyone take a tour with Mr. Silong if they are able.

This was a fantastic and moving experience. Our English speaking guide Ms Chheang Sreyneang brought the experience alive. Her knowledge of Cambodian history and the events leading up to the genocide was outstanding. And she related to the the events with the personal experiences of her parents and grandparents through this period in history. I would recommend a personal guided tour to anyone to fully appreciate the significance of the Cambodian genocide and it’s lasting effects on modern day Cambodia.

We did a tour with Lina, and I don’t know if there could possibly be a better person to introduce visitors to the Killing Fields and Genocide Museum. She brings her historical knowledge, personal experiences, thoughtful insights, excellent English, and open, welcoming demeanor — and she navigated such difficult topics with extreme grace.
Lina struck a perfect balance between factual storytelling and emotional depth. She never sensationalized, but instead honored the gravity of what happened with compassion and clarity. Her personal connection to Cambodia’s history added so much humanity to the experience — it wasn’t just a tour, it was a profound and moving journey through the country’s past and hopes for the future.
She was incredibly organized, punctual, and thoughtful in how she structured the day. There was plenty of time to reflect, ask questions, and take in the information without feeling rushed. Lina also helped us understand the broader historical and political context, which gave even more weight to what we were seeing and hearing. And she was open to our questions and helped us understand the cultural and political climate today.
This was one of the most powerful and meaningful experiences of our entire trip. If you're visiting Phnom Penh, don't miss the Killing Fields and Genocide Museum. (And if you can score Lina as your guide, even better!) This tour is an absolute must-do if you want to gain a deeper, more human understanding of Cambodia’s history and resilience.
Traveler notes: We visited the Killing Field near Phnom Penh. This is very accessible for most visitors - the ground is fairly even; there isn't a lot of walking; and there is shade at most stops. It can get really hot, so be prepared with a hat or umbrella and water. This tour was private, so a driver picked us up at our hotel and transported us between locations. You pay for entry in cash (you can't book in advance), but it was less than $8 US per person between the 2 sites.

Sony was an incredible tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. He was also happy to answer questions about the surrounding areas as we drove from location to location.
Sony and the driver were prompt and ready to go at the time scheduled. The car was also cool when we returned. They had cold water.
The museum and killing fields were difficult to see as it was a harsh lesson in history, but it was worth experiencing to learn more about the past.

A group of four of us booked a private tour with an English speaking guide, based on a very positive experience with a private tour of the temples in Siem Reap.
Our tour guide was a lovely lady, a school teacher, and undoubtedly passionate about her job as a guide. Unfortunately, she spoke with such a strong accent that we had a real challenge understanding her. This is not what we expected for an 'English speaking private guide'. At times frustrated, each of us walked around and read the plaques and signs around the killing fields; and in the tour of the museum, we each gravitated to listen to other group tours where we could understand the tour guide.
We were most disappointed to have paid $196.00 for the tour and do not feel we got anything near the value we had paid for.
As we are in southeast Asia for another 3 weeks we are now most hesitant to use Viator.
We paid extra for very little value.

According to her report during her trip with you, she told us that you were not nice and friendly travelers. You did not listen to her and you pretended to be a boss who knows everything more than a local like her. You did not show your respect to a local but acted as a boss and lecturer.
Anyway we would like to encourage her to improve her English well to make our future travelers understand her.

Mr Sok is a very well read and knowledgeable guide with many moving specific anecdotes in addition to broad understand of general history. We also visited the genocide museum where he was able to share specific stories of some of the prisoners and survivors. A half day we will not forget.

Our guide Lina, was excellent, she explained the history really well and in a sensitive way. Lina also answered any questions that we had very clearly.
It is a very sad part of Cambodia’s past and is heartbreaking but is important to learn about. Walking around the cells, seeing photos of victims, the conditions in the prison, along with the bones and skulls in the Stipa and remains of half buried clothing - all brought the experience very close. Sad, but well worth it.
We went as a family, but our children are 26 and 24. I wouldn’t recommend taking younger children.

These two spots are imperative to understanding Cambodia's history and the people. Utterly astonishing that these things could happen in my lifetime. And shame on the USA for leaving these people to these atrocities. Our guide was a nice man who wanted to share his knowlege, but unfortunately, I had trouble deciphering his accent. Others may not experience this problem.
