Get ready for an extremely early pickup time for this 13-hour private tour to Agra from Delhi. Meet your driver at 2:30am from your hotel or the airport—it’s your choice. Sit back in your private vehicle, and relax. The ride from Delhi to Agra takes about three hours.

Once you arrive in Agra, you’re in for a treat. Your first stop is the Taj Mahal, and you'll be just in time for sunrise. See just how stunning the majestic mausoleum looks under the beautiful rising sun before you head out with your guide on a tour of the grounds.

My driver Mr. Sonu...

My driver Mr. Sonu arrived promptly at 2:30am at my Delhi Hotel to begin the drive to Agra. He gave me some water bottles and we also stopped for chai on the way. We arrived at 5:45am as people were entering, though crowds were still low as it was early. We met with the guide Vijay, who was very helpful in explaining the history of the Taj Mahal and the creation with specific details on the materials used to create the structure and was helpful to hold some of my items as bags are not allowed in otherwise you have to wait and check it into storage. For some reason the company asked me on whatsapp for my passport photocopy prior and then on the day, Vijay said it wasn’t needed on the day of. You have an option of a photographer there at extra cost. 100 INR per picture, they use their dslr for most pictures but will use your phone if you ask for some but their camera is the main one. They will give you printed ones but I believe it costs more to get the softcopy though this is all from other people outside the tour. After the Taj Mahal, we went to breakfast at the hotel as planned in the itinerary of the tour. Then we visited two shops that explained carpets and marble used in Agra. I also had to leave early back to Delhi to catch a flight. They were very flexible with this. Mr. Sonu was also very helpful with driving by other monuments in Delhi.

Got to see the beautiful Taj Mahal before and during the sunrise. Best time to go as you beat the rush of all the other visitors to the area and have more photo opportunities. After, have a lovely breakfast at a five star hotel is worth the early wake up time.

My friend and I booked this tour as we had heard that sunrise tours of the Taj Mahal were the best option if booking a day trip from Delhi. Our driver was prompt when picking us up, however he drove 140kms the entire way to Agra. This would’ve been manageable, however we could see in the rear view mirror he began falling asleep about 30 minutes into the drive. We had to keep talking to him so he didn’t fall asleep. We picked up the tour guide when we got to Agra, who was nice enough, he took some nice photos of us. After we had seen Agra fort and Taj Mahal the driver and tour guide took us to a carpet shop. They disappeared into a back room, presumably to sit with their friends, and left us to be ‘shown how to make carpet’ for an hour. This turned out to be extremely pushy carpet sales, an item we had no intention of buying in the first place. This made us super uncomfortable. We asked to leave and the driver and tour guide suggested we visit two more shops, not wanting a repeat experience we declined and asked to be taken home to Delhi (3 hours early). We dropped the tour guide off at a hotel which clearly had a partnership with our guide and driver - at which point the guide asked me friend to write a review on the spot, he wouldn’t let us leave until my friend had completed the review. This was extremely uncomfortable. He then forced us to leave a tip for him even though we’d paid $150+ for this tour each. Overall, giving it a 2 star rating because the Taj Mahal is incredible, but I would not recommend this tour. Being put in uncomfortable positions did ultimately take away from the experience of seeing the Taj Mahal for the first time. Look for a different tour operator if you want to see the Taj at sunrise.

Had a lovely day in Agra - my driver KK Sharma picked me up from my hotel in Delhi at 3am. Drove to Agra making a stopover at a service station for a lovely masala tea. It must be a favourite stopover as we met several other people heading to see the Taj Mahal My tour guide in Agra was Rajnikant - he is amazingly knowledgeable about Agra. He brought the experience of visiting the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort to life. I would recommend asking for him in person if you are planning to book via Viator.

Getting there early is highly recommended, you beat most of the crowds, it’s still cool and best of all, you get to watch the morning light change on the Taj Mahal. A magical place. Our guide, Rajnikant, was exceptional. Clearly knew his history, and pointed out so many details of the building and design that we would have otherwise missed which greatly added to the experience, while at the same time giving plenty of free time to explore on our own. Our driver Hari, was amazing, it is a long drive… and that traffic…. ! The tour also covers the Red Fort, which the second most significant structure in Agra and well worth visiting. Breakfast was top notch. We also visited several government sponsored artisan establishments. Very educational. If you are looking for that special souvenir from your trip to India, you might find something here to your liking. We did.

Absolutely worth the early wake up to see the Taj at sunrise. You beat the crows and the views are stunning. The driver was on time and was very polite and they guide was knowledgeable and super kind. Breakfast was also quite good. My only complain is that they were trying to push a bit to hard on the crafts "tour" to purchase stuff. Some of the stops were very interesting and you indeed learn a bit about the techniques and craftsmanship, but others just felt like they were pushing you to buy stuff.

The Guide Mahesh was very informative and a very good photographer! I will recommend this for the guide only! However, driving at 2:30 from Delhi to Agra was very exhausting. I recommend to arrive the day before to enjoy Taj Mahal to the fullest.

How Could It Be Anything but Magical

Early start but easy to nap in car ride. Prem was excellent driver and stopped at a truck stop (interesting experience) for me to have coffee and use the facilities. Sun wasn’t making an appearance but the early morning mist created a dreamy atmosphere. Guide Rocky was very knowledgeable about mogul history and answered my many questions. The Taj is worth every penny and every missed minute of sleep. Breakfast afterwards was at a lovely hotel where I was given an hour to eat and absorb the morning alone - perfect. Then on to the fort and to the baby Taj (which I paid for). There were too many stops with sales people pressing for business and not enough stops to see the beauty and uniqueness of Agra. But Rocky was an excellent host. Easy to understand and talk to. And Prem was the perfect driver.

We were disappointed with the shopping as it was very specific shops only when we thought it was going to be more of a market, but it wasn't enough to detract from everything else.

The Agra tour by Trip Advisor was overall a huge disappointment. Our guide Tony made our experience feel unsafe, shallow, and aimed at making you spend money at every turn. Breakfast I asked if we could eat breakfast at a well-reviewed south Indian restaurant, and our guide avoided the question and acted like we had to eat at the Trident Hotel (a place that is part of a more expensive trip advisor package). Our guide said the south Indian restaurant was disgusting, and we shouldn’t go. I then asked what his favorite local restaurant was, as he was from Agra, and he said Trident Hotel was the best. This was our first red flag. Shop Scams Before visiting Agra, I reached out to trip advisor about the itinerary, and explained that we were not interested in shopping. I read several reviews saying that other people were taken to shops by their tour guide so if they bought something the guide would get a portion of the money. I received feedback from trip advisor saying we didn’t have to go shopping, and we could in fact go anywhere in Agra, even if it wasn’t on the tour, we would just have to pay the entrance fees. Conclusion During the entirety of our tour at the Taj our guide Tony talked about the stonework and the inlaid gemstones at the Taj. He took us to a shop afterwards that specializes in this kind of gem and stonework. While the craftsmanship at the shop was high quality they have a display area out front with workers displaying how they supposedly make everything by hand. It felt like a tourist display and the prices for the goods were very high. After the marble shop we went to Agra Fort, which was the least appealing of the forts we visited in India and he talked endlessly about tapestries they would hang that are of course no longer present. After telling us a little about the fort and a focus on the tapestries he then insisted we go to a tapestry shop to see their wares. We told him we were not interested and did not want to buy a tapestry but he insisted. Only after telling him a second time we did not want to go to a shop and instead wanted to visit the gardens across from the Taj did he concede and the mood of the tour changed entirely. He became distant and reluctant to respond to our questions and you could hear a level of scorn in his voice for us not wanting to do things as he had planned. This not only made us uncomfortable riding with him but also having all of our belongings in a car with him as we walked the gardens on our own.

Nicely organized tour to one of the modern wonders of the world

Overall a nice trip, with punctual and professional driver. Well organized from a timing standpoint. Friendly and helpful guide, good breakfast, and enough time to explore Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. The only negative was the "forced stop" at the handicrafts store(s). Since we were time-pressed to return to Dehli by a certain time we only visited one of the stores (the marble inlay one). The demonstration was nicely done, but the visit to the gallery/store was not as "no pressure at all" as was mentioned several times by the person who welcomed us. While the craftsmanship of the items was good, the prices were very high and you should be able to haggle down to about one-third to half of the original asking price. In the end I decided against buying what I liked, because I didn't like the sales tactics, being surrounded by 4 or 5 people trying to have me buy a $100 coaster set, which started with a much higher asking price. I worked in tourism and even as a tour guide for years so I understand the shop visits and reliance on commission for extra income, but in the end these visits should not distract from the tour, and partially spoil the experience of visiting one of the must-see places on earth.

Very good experience and enjoyed it very much. the guide Rocky kept pointing out certain details in the architecture of the Taj and could tell a lot about the history. He did that in a funny way making the experience more memorable. Definitely something one would not want to miss when visiting India. The driver picked us up in time and brought us save and sound back to the hotel which was very much appreciated given the traffic in India

Our driver was so caring and reminded us of our pick up venue way in advance and our guide (Rocky) was the highlight. He walked us through the historical timeline of the Moghul Empire and culminating in the reasons for building the "Taj Mahal". Our guide Rocky is amazing in taking excellent photographs. Prior to our trip our driver sent his picture and reconfirmed our 2:15 am hotel pick up in Delhi. He was on time and drove us the 3 hours to meet our day guide at the Taj Mahal. Early is the key as we were first in line to enter the gate and quickly made our way to the best photos with virtually no one else in them. Our guide was a photo expert and historian and moved us around with great ease capturing each essential, once in a lifetime photos. Breakfast at a local hotel was very good and a much needed break before heading to Agra which was a bit disappointing. We passed on the ceramics shop as we preferred an earlier return to Delhi. Guide had excellent knowledge of area and conveyed a lot of interesting facts and figures about the Taj Mahal and Agra in good English. the breakfast was most enjoyable. a pleasant location. personally, i didnt need to go outlets that wanted to sell their products. the drive to and from Delhi was long but the driver excellent and i enjoyed the trip. the driver was very patient in the afternoon traffic when getting my safely back to my hotel. Not sure who the person was who drove with us from Delhi to Agra?? He didnt have a lot of English that i could understand and slept most of the way... a nice (long) day out :)

A great and long day to experience the Taj Mahal and Agra fort

My trip was scheduled to start at 2:15 from my hotel near Delhi airport. A day before the trip I received the information by WhatsApp from the tour operator. Ravi, my driver arrived at 2:00 already. Also he kept me posted by WhatsApp. The car was comfortable and clean. The drive from Delhi to Agra took about 3,5 hours and was comfortable so I could sleep a bit. After arriving in Agra I met up with Rajesh, my guide for the day. In the Taj Mahal I had a few particular photos in mind that I wanted to take. Beyond that Rajesh was able to show me a few great photo angles that I probably wouldn't have found that quickly myself. The 3 hours at the Taj Mahal literally flew by :-) In the afternoon we went to Agra Fort where I learned about the history and particularities of the fort. Again Rajesh was very knowledgable and pleasant to hang around with. The day way concluded with a sunset view of the Taj Mahal from Mehtab Bagh, after which Ravi - who had rested during the day in Agra - brought me back to Delhi in the evening. I look back at this trip with great pleasure. I rated this trip 4 star instead of 5 star for following reason: in the afternoon there was some free time between lunch and before heading to Mehtab Bagh and we decided to visit some artisanal stores. I was interested to review and purchase some small jewellery/art items. I did mention I was not interested in visiting any rug stores, but we did end up at one that was rather pushy to sell me some. I had to raise my voice in a persistent manner to stop that. This could have been easily avoided as I expressed up from that I had no desire to purchase any rugs.

We had a very full, 14 hr day! The driver was very prompt for our 2:30am hotel pickup. He stopped mid-way for our "potty" break, then continued to Agra, where we met our Guide Rocky. Great early morning at the Taj. Guide gave good commentary and pointed out the best photo spots too. Bkfst was ok. The Red Fort was exceptional. The "handicraft" vendors - carpet demo, jewelry and tapestry - even though we were assured there would be no pressure, were pushy. Two negatives (1) the guide activated his mobile hot spot in the car and was "very eager" for me to complete a TripAdvisor review...on the spot...so he would get good feedback. (2) The driver on the return was very sleepy...kept drifting lanes...many, many times. I tried to ask qns and engage him to keep him awake, but without conversation I could see his eyes closing in the rearview mirror. Then, he was comparing how long he had been with us vs the guide, inferring that he get a higher tip. Hummm. Overall I would highly recommend the itinerary. Just stand your ground.

great experience!! Worth all the money. cab met us on time at our hotel in Delhi. The home base in Agra is a fancy hotel in Agra where you have time to freshen up and meet your guide before going to the Taj Mahal. you DEFINITELY need to go to the Taj Mahal at sunrise because there was no one there. The guide, RAJ SHARMA, was absolutely the greatest. He has been doing tours for 14 years. He understands that the experience is for you. We love history, so we spent some tie learning all about the history of old Agra and the building of the Taj. Would recommend because we were able to appreciate it so much more. If history isn't your jam, get a guidebook or it's beauty will be so lost on you and mostly likely, you won't enjoy it that much. Our package came with a professional photographer who knows the best shots and lighting - you don't have to buy any if you don't want - and the photos turned out great. you can also ask people to help you as well. We also had time to explore without a guide, which was nice. You only need about 2-3 hours there. Raj also took us to a local Southern Indian restaurant for breakfast. You can also choose a continental breakfast option too (not included) and then we toured around to a Marble Emporium and a Tapestry Emporium (it was overcast so we were waiting for better weather before going to the Agra Fort, which we highly recommend as well because it's truly beautiful with a view of the Taj. You can decline all the extra tours but they are FREE and it was fun to explore Agra for a half day. You have the option to purchase things at the emporiums but you don't have to. It was cool to look at how the Taj Mahal was made so the experience was worth it for us. Viator took care of everything. no lines!! Don't try and go later in the morning - more people came as we were leaving and it was more crowded

Highly, highly recommend this fantastic private tour with Rajesh! Well worth the early start from Delhi - they pick you up straight from the hotel for the drive down to Agra. We debated which day to do this, and as an added bonus since we just arrived the night before, jet lag made the 2am meeting time even easier. Rajesh is incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and fun! The entire day (Taj tour, breakfast, fort, and stops at local shops after) was so well thought out and informative. Also, sunrise is the time to see the Taj! It was already getting crowded and hot towards the end of our morning there. So glad to have done this on our first full day in India - couldn’t think of a better start to the trip!

I booked my trip through Viator and it was a great experience from the start. When I was experiencing challenges with the booking I made direct contact with the 'Hire Taxi India' company and they always answered my calls and/or responded to my text in a very timely manner (and sometimes immediately). I was happy about that because as a female solo traveller in a foreign country, I was nervous. As such, it was great when I realized the company that I was dealing with was professional. Hours before the trip they also provided me with the driver's name and telephone number as well as my tour guide's name. When I met my driver (his name is Prem) I was relieved and happy about his high level of professional. He speaks English well and there was no language barrier or difficulty to understand each other. He was friendly and we had good conversations throughout the journey to Agra with lots of jokes here and there. He is a great person and I recommend that you ask for him. His professionalism further eased any anxiety that I had about this trip and he set the pace for what is one of the best experiences that I have here in India. When we arrived in Agra and I met my tour guide (his name is Tony) and he too was professional and explained what I should expect from the tour. We had a nice walk to Taj Mahal. He collected our tickets and got me bottled water when we arrived. On the inside, he explained in so many details how the Taj Mahal was built. He is very knowledgeable about the precious stones that were used to build the Taj Mahal. He is also very helpful, often telling me ahead of time where I should 'watch my step' so that I didn't have an accident tripping over an obstruction in our path. He knows the Taj Mahal inside-out and where to take some of the best photos and he knows how to work a camera. I had some amazing photos thanks to Tony. But best of all was all the information that he was able to provide. My least favourite part of the tour was the experiencing one of Agra's craft. We went to see embroidery being made and while, in all honesty, it was interesting to watch, the part that I didn't like was them trying to sell me items afterwards. This may just be my personal dislike because I am at the stage of my life where I do not want to buy too many things and to instead use my money on experiences. Even though I bought a purse I feel like the sales guy did not get it when I said I don't want anything else to buy (these things were expensive too). He kept showing me more and more things even when I said I was no longer interested. Anyway, I guess it is his job to sell but unfortunately, I didn't like that part. However, that does not take away from the fact that I had one of the absolutely best experiences on this trip. Once again thanks to my driver, Prem, and my tour guide, Tony. You two honestly made this trip worth it.

We had a great day and it was an exceptional experience but a note to future travelers 'think about what you are asking for'. We were excited to be collected and driven to Agra for the day and then returned to Delhi in the evening but that meant a 12 hour plus sleepless day for our driver who lived in Agra. It may have been wiser to have taken the train.

Great tour, but not so safe

The tour to visit the Taj Mahal is really great, but I did not feel safe during the trip. As I left Delhi at 2:15 AM and retorn at 4:00 PM with the save driver, I notice that the drive was asleep. My recommendation is to use two drivers for the tour or go the day before and sleep in Agra.
