- 3) SOFA Driving License for US Forces Japan or
- 4) Japanese Driver's License
- The International Driving Permits that Japan will allow is the 1949 Geneva Act. Each country has its own assigned agent (usually a major roadside service company) that is allowed to issue a 1949 Geneva Act Driving Permit. There are no agents that will issue a 1949 Geneva Act International Driving Permit over the Internet. Also, the driving permit is a booklet and must have the word 1949 Geneva, or the date of the actual convention, September 19, 1949 on the cover of the permit. Super fun experience and highly recommend to anyone visiting Okinawa. I can only say there is less traffic here than in Tokyo so feel this is a lot safer. Great leadership by Mr Banana. Vehicles worked well and were easy to use. Amazing experience.

Charlie "the banana" was a great guide as we drove around 3 of Okinawas popular sites. My husband and I came for our honeymoon and we had a blast dressing up and taking pics. Def recommend the 7p tour. The lights of the city were beautiful!

Although the employees are nice enough, this tourist trap seems sketchy at best.
Their Viator listing states that an International Driving Permit is required.
As such, our entire family obtained International Driving Permits in the USA prior to traveling.
Upon arrival at their off-the-beaten path, somewhat out-of-the-way location, their team informed us that our permits were "fakes." They refused to allow us to go on the Go Kart tour we had paid for and they told us to reach out to their owners through Viator for a refund.
Viator attempted to contact them to no avail.
When we got home, we confirmed w/ a government entity that our International Driving Permits were ABSOLUTELY valid.
We wasted time. We wasted money.
We couldn't do the tour. We don't have a refund.
The owners won't answer.
It's often said that the sign of a good or bad business isn't always in what they do when things are going right, but how they help and handle things when something goes wrong.
In that sense, this company/tour provider has failed us on every level.
Now we have to go through our credit card company because they can't use commonsense and issue a refund in a situation where it's clearly warranted.

It is unfortunate that you were unable to join the activity.
For an IDP issued in the USA to be legally valid in Japan, it must be issued by either AAA (American Automobile Association), as it is the only authorized bodies under the 1949 Geneva Convention. Unfortunately, permits obtained from other online sources are not legally recognized by Japanese police.
Because we operate on public roads, we cannot legally or safely allow participation with invalid documentation.
We take document verification very seriously. We personally contact every customer to advise them of these specific requirements. It is also mentioned on our product page that each country has its own assigned agent that will issue an authorized International Driving Permit. In your case, we sent multiple reminders requesting that you submit your documents for pre-verification.
Unfortunately, we did not receive any documents prior to your tour. Because nothing was sent beforehand, we were unable to review verify the permits early and notify you that the documents you planned to use were invalid.
Additionally, you did not inform us which country issued your driver’s license, so we could not advise you on the correct agency or provide guidance on which issuing authority is accepted for each specific country.
For legal and safety reasons, we must strictly follow Japan’s driving regulations. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Japan.

One of the best highlights of my trip! If you’ve ever wanted to drive a high speed go kart through public streets this is for you! Hiro made sure you were safe on the roads and that you have a good time. It was also nice to see children and grown men look at you with envy. Do not miss this tour if coming to Okinawa!

Fabulous Street Karting experience through the streets of Okinawa with the very engaging John. Highly recommend this experience : you get to choose a onesie mostly a Disney or character from Pokemon or some other Japanese Anime and follow the guide around. It's hilarious and I'm certain we featured in lots of people's photos.

This was an amazing experience. All the guys at the shop were kind, positive & friendly. They let us reschedule to a non rainy tour time very easily. John was our tour guide and was a great leader. He made everything easy and exciting. If we get back to Okinawa, we will do the tour again.

Riding go-karts through the streets of Okinawa at night was an unforgettable experience! The city lights, ocean views, and overall vibe made for such a fun and scenic ride — and we were able to go even faster than I expected.
Our guide was fantastic, making sure to take photos of us at nearly every stoplight. He even rotated our positions so everyone got great shots. The photos turned out awesome and really captured the energy of the night.
This was hands-down one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. Highly recommend it if you're looking for something unique and exciting to do in Okinawa!

This was a lot of fun, driving through the streets of Okinawa on go-carts. Our guide did a great job keeping our group together and making sure no one got separated at street lights. Observers along the route were very cheerful when they saw us.

Super fun - 5 of us
We did 2 hours and it was totally worth it
May want to book an earlier time if you want to see the waters but it’s hotter. we did it at 7 pm in early Sept
Muscle Dog was an excellent lead and took pics for us all along the way
Got to see all of Naha
Super close to our hotel so easy walk
Make sure you have International DL and bring it with passport
Make sure you decide if you want insurance or not, it’s 1000 yen/pp but coverage seems complete
Go cart was easy to drive and low to ground. Seemed difficult but it wasn’t and it could go pretty fast esp down little hills
Whole family had a grand time!

This was fabulous! We're on a cruise, and booked this independently. Best shore excursion ever! Get your IDP (International Driver Permit) before you book. The price is WAY lower than any cruise shore excursion you'll find. This one's a "don't miss".

Ended up being solo on this tour. Made for an interesting custom trip and easier navigation through the city. Half of the circuit is very scenic, but, in general, it's more laid back than, say, the Tokyo version. The staff at the shop seemed/sounded a little bored with no one else on the tour, but kudos to the Japanese tour guide for taking me to all the spots nonetheless.

Great experience and host! We did the 2hr course and it was wonderful! We got to see many beautiful places of Okinawa! The host even took about 50 photos and videos of us driving, FOR FREE. And even gave us laminated hard copies of some photos! Definitely recommend, will return again!

The ride is long and the drive down Kokusai Street was interesting. Makes you feel like a celebrity with all the tourists taking videos and pictures and waving. The guide, Damo, is a real character. I will be doing this again with some friends.
