I had a great time hiking to Materuni waterfalls followed by a delicious lunch, and then a coffee making tour. Bony, my guide was very knowledgeable and a gracious host. I felt very welcome and we shared a few laughs. The hike to the waterfalls was beautiful and not too long. Afterwards we hiked back to his village and had a traditional lunch that was really tasty and filling. Next we hiked a short distance to the coffee plantation where I was shown how to process and roast organic coffee in the traditional way and got to sample a couple of fresh cups of organic brew. I whole-heartedly recommend this tour and Bony as a guide. It was great way to spend the day in Moshi before starting my Kilimanjaro trek.

I had a great experience on the coffee tour and waterfall trek. The coffee experience was so much fun and Bony, Barako and his team were super friendly and made the experience interactive and entertaining. I did the hike to the waterfall in the afternoon and I was the only person there. A great experience and highly recommended

I had a spectacular experience with the Chagga Tribe! Learning how coffee is made—from the beans to the final cup—was fascinating, interactive, and so much fun. Boni and his team were incredibly energetic, welcoming, and entertaining, making the entire experience both educational and memorable.
This wasn’t just a tour—it was an authentic cultural immersion filled with laughter, music, great coffee, and genuine hospitality. I highly recommend this experience to everyone visiting the area. It’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you’ll never forget!

My husband and I booked this experience and our guide Bony and driver Steven were amazing. They took care of us all along the way. They had trekking poles for the hike to the waterfall which was beautiful but muddy and slippery. The coffee plantation was organic and the best cup of coffee we have ever had. Everyone was welcoming and friendly! They also served us a delicious local lunch and cleaned our boots while we ate. Would recommend but beware they use a tuk-tuk for transportation and the roads can be very bumpy.

We were picked up by tuktuk at the correct time and taken to Materuni by our friendly driver Steven. The journey there in the tuktuk is an adventure in itself. Once arrived we were welcomed like at home. Then we made coffee coffee in the traditional Chagga way - this was a fantastic experience and the coffee was delicious. Following this we could purchase some local coffee and other products but this didn't feel pushy - we bought a bag of coffee because it really is very good! The lunch was also delicious, healthy and plentiful. We left for the hike with a belly full of food and a heart full of joy. The hike to the waterfall was fantastic, our guide Innocent explained everything from Chagga life and traditions to local plants in great details, and he also spotted some chameleons. We had a fantastic time!!!

It’s a visit to Materuni waterfalls, with coffee workshop tour. Perfect for me (I didn’t want to go to hotspring)
There’s a team of several people working together for the workshop, showing the whole process and little boy playing drums, that gives a quite cool atmosphere! Chanting while grinding the beans. We then taste the coffee we made. Coffee beans bags and some arts are there if you want to buy.
Then we went to Materuni waterfalls by walk, an exercise by itself (I tracked and total coffee & waterfalls is about 7k walk) it was low season so less crowded. Which I find it nice. We then went to a local place for lunch. It was delicious! I love the local foods, served in a family like atmosphere.
Love my tour overall!

Wonderful, unique, interactive experience with the Chagga Tribe on their working farm. The food was amazing and made the best cup of coffee I’ve ever sipped. The best part was the peaceful atmosphere and Boni and his family. Added bonus was the majestic waterfall.

I had an incredible half-day experience in the Materuni village with my tour guide, Boni - the Tuk Tuk ride into the mountains was a fun start, and then we hand-processed and roasted coffee beans, and brewed coffee over the fire. The waterfall hike was beautiful. We ended the day with a delicious meal!

The waterfall is awesome. Prepare for a little of the waterfall to blow off on you when you approach it. The hike there is also pretty fantastic, but be prepared for rainy weather (just rent the boots in this case).
My favorite part of your was hanging with Boni and making my own coffee from beginning to end with in and his friends. Worth noting, the souvenirs you can buy there are far better priced than what you’ll find in Moshi.
At the end of the tour, we had a delicious local meal together in Boni’s village that is highly recommend.
Overall, great tour and experience. I enjoyed it all and would recommend to all. Boni is exactly what you want in a tour guide with the way he carries himself, and I appreciate him sharing his life in his village with me.

Amazing, authentic experience!! The tour is well-planned and the local lunch and coffee demonstration are unique and delicious. My guide Boni and driver Billy were both great - very personable, kind and shared a lot about the local area, they truly made this a memorable day. Travelled solo and also got to meet other nice people on the tour which was great. Highly recommend!

I have to say, this was truly a wonderful experience – a total surprise and a genuine local experience. My guide, Baraka was incredibly kind and knowledgeable. He helped me along the muddy path to the waterfall. The coffee tour itself was really interesting, and everyone there was extremely friendly. The food was fantastic too! I can wholeheartedly recommend this experience. Also my driver was super lovely and showed me lots of different plants along the way. I had a lot of fun!

Boni was one of the loveliest, most engaging tour guides we had the fortune of meeting. He's a really thoughtful, intellectually curious guy and happy to share about the Kiswahili language as well as local Chagga culture and the history of the region. He knows a lot about everything, and his English is impeccable. I really appreciated that he thought both about community and environmental welfare; it was evident that he wanted to make sure tourism was the least harmful possible.
The walk through the village and to the waterfall wasn't long at all (and I wouldn't say it was a difficult walk either), and the waterfall was really beautiful. We were really lucky to get a glimpse at Mt. Kilimanjaro along the way as well! (Though we were told this doesn't happen every day, and indeed, we only got a peek at the peak for a few minutes.) The coffee making process was so fun, and all of Boni's friends who joined us for this and for the lunch were just as friendly and cool as Boni. I'm vegetarian, and the lunch of local ingredients we were given wasn't just a suitable option but absolutely delicious. Lots of banana-based dishes (very much local as the whole village is full of banana trees) as well as very full-of-flavor rice and beans, pliau, & kale. Suitable for vegans as well.
Also, we had all our bags with us as we were headed straight to the airport after the tour. The tuk tuk driver Steven looked after our luggage while we did the activities without any problem. We felt very well looked after by both him and Boni.
Only positive things to say. Would recommend this tour to anyone!

I really enjoyed this daytrip and learning about the Chaga tribe. Getting a tour from someone from this town who is embedded in the culture and history was fascinating, and I really enjoyed the cultural aspects of the coffee plantation, including the process as well as ritual chanting surrounding it. It was much more than I expected and I was thrilled with everything. He really went above and beyond in showing me what I was interested in and tailoring the trip to me.
