Humphrey, the guide, was at the meeting point before time. Very nice guy and knowledgeable. We spent an hour at Fort Jesus and went to the old town. I learned a lot about the history of the city. He was really patient with me and helped me do some shopping at the spice market. He stayed with me all the way back to the hotel. Even though it was raining, he didn’t cancel and brought umbrellas. A had a good time !

We really enjoyed this tour. We learned lots about the history of the region. Humphrey is very knowledgeable. We also enjoyed the spice market. It was a great tour.

Excellent tour with Humphrey. I truly enjoyed it! I was lucky, as it was just a tour with he and I, so I had time to ask questions and explore. From "Fort Jesus", to "Spice Market" onward to the famous Moi Ave Tusks. He was full of knowledge and eager to make the experience enjoyable and memorable. I HIGHLY recommend anyone visiting Mombassa/Kenya take this particular tour. You won't regret. (PS: keep around 2k shillings on you for entry into the fort and any tips you may want to leave). Thanks again. Ed

Humphrey is very knowledgeable and passionate about Mombasa’s culture and history, which was reflected on the tour. He mentioned that he wanted to provide the best service and he delivered! He made the history of Mombasa come alive, and I wanted to learn so much more. The tour was very informative, and Humphrey took care to ensure I felt OK in the heat, and that I was enjoying the tour. I also enjoyed a taste of travel in the tuk tuks. He took many photos creating some wonderful memories. I highly recommend this tour!

The tour was a fascinating dive into the rich history and vibrant culture of Old Town Mombasa. Wandering through the narrow streets lined with Swahili architecture and centuries-old buildings felt like stepping back in time. Fort Jesus was especially impressive—our guide shared captivating stories about its strategic importance and the battles it witnessed.
While the guide did arrive a little late, once the tour began, his passion and knowledge more than made up for it. They answered questions thoughtfully and added personal insights that brought the history to life. Overall, a memorable experience that’s well worth it for history buffs and curious travellers alike.

We had such a great tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and customized the information and experience to the ages of my teenaged kids. If you have the option I would recommend you request Humphrey as a guide - he was prompt, smart, so friendly, accommodating of our interests and schedule and made sure we had a top rate experience. I would highly recommend booking your tickets through Viator - it made all the difference in what we got out of the tour.

Humphrey was great. On time, looked after us and was very knowledgeable. He guided us around Fort Jesus, told us about the history, then took us through the old town and spice market and to the elephant tusks and Hindu temple and a great ride in a Tuk Tuk. Thoroughly enjoyable - highly recommended.

We learned so much about Mombasa from Humphrey! He gave a great summary of Mombasa's history and showed us key old town sites, some of which would have been difficult to even find on our own. We highly recommend this tour.

Interesting tour. I appreciated the fact that Humphrey contacted me after I booked and again on the morning of the tour. He was also at the meeting point very early and came to introduce himself.

It’s was very nice and well-planned walk with our wonderful guide Humphrey. We had a chance to know more about the history of Mombasa, walk through the streets of Old town, visit Fort Jesus. We’ve bought very nice handmade souvenirs and spices at a good price. We took a ride on a tuk-tuk, it was fun and exciting :) Highly recommend this tour, you will not remain indifferent to the history of the city.

Humphrey is extremely kind, knowledgeable, and respectful. He made my tour experience feel special and fun. I felt very safe doing this tour as a solo female traveler.
We started at Fort Jesus; he gave a compelling and detailed history of the place that made the history feel like it was coming alive. We then went to Old Town and a spice market, Uhuru park, and the Mombasa tusks. I got to ride around in a tuktuk—my first time! I really recommend booking with Humphrey for a unique and fun experience. 😊

We definitely recommend the Walking Tour Through Old Town Mombasa and Fort Jesus with Humphrey. My husband and I had a wonderful and informative time on our tour. Humphrey was very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. He was able to tell us about the complete Fort Jesus and Old Town history as well as escorted us to some interesting places within Fort Jesus’s well as Old Town. At our request he was able to direct us to a great souvenir shop to get some gifts. We felt very safe traveling around Mombasa with Humphrey! We had a ton of fun! Thank you Humphrey🙏🏾

What an awesome experience! Humphrey Ndungu is an amazing guide! He was thoroughly knowledgeable about Fort Jesus and Old Town Mombasa. We were a group of six history lovers, including two teachers, (one being a History Teacher) and we learned so much from him. He was patient dealing with all of our personalities as we battered him with a ton of questions. He led us through Old Town and was very protective of our whole group especially walking through the Spice Market. He brought us to the BEST local shop for gifts and I was shocked at how economical it was compared to the many other shops we had already purchased from. He took us on our first Tuk Tuk ride and we all had a blast! Finally, he arranged for our driver, (who was still waiting at Fort Jesus) to pick us up by the Spice Market so we wouldn’t have to walk all the way back to in the hot sun.
Thank you Humphrey for one of the best experiences on our 12 day tour of Kenya! I highly recommend him and his tour for anyone going to Mombasa!

Humphrey is very professional, not only about the history and culture of Mombasa (especially of For Jesus & the Old Town), but also take good care of your personal safety and the overall experience. The whole trip is pleasant & flexible, I had plenty of time so he took me to the Spice Market & a Hindu temple.
KOHKI_H, Mar 2024
He is very knowledgeable about city walking and Fort Jesus and takes some very beautiful pictures.
He was also very friendly and I was very pleased with his service.
In Fort Jesus he explained the history of the city with some of the highlights.
In Old Town, he explained the streets to us and introduced us to a very conscientious jeweler.
The spice market was very fascinating as he taught us about the various spices!

My tour guide awesome, patient, knowledgeable and completely. I would definitely recommend him on any Mombasa tour.

The entire trip was great! Humphrey was amazing and very knowledgeable! He even paid for my ride home!

An interesting visit with a knowledgeable guide but two different tours were combined resulting in a large group and much waiting around.
Jorge_V, Jan 2024
The Tour guide never showed up for the tour. He told me he was going to pick me up at the Cruise Port Terminal but he never did. I texted several times and he never bothered to answer me or give me any explanation. I lost my whole day in Mombasa because of his irresponsibility and inconsiderate behavior. Don't use Humphrey Ngudu.s company.

Enjoyed the food and spice market, cathedral and slave market information, but the whole tour was excellent. Very well presented by Mohammed, a very knowledgeable, courteous young man with exceptional English.

Humphrey is so nice and very attentive! He was early and very communicative before and after the tour! He made sure all was organized and everyone on the tour needs were met! He is very knowledgeable about the history of Mombasa and goes above and beyond for all of his clients!! The price is super reasonable especially if you come from a place where your currency is higher - your support goes a long way and it won’t starve anyone to pay the price it is listed as! You get your exercise in which I love because I am a very active person and great photos with a great deal of history! An amazing day conversing with Humphrey and others I met along the way! Highly recommend!!!

The Fort Jesus and Old Town tour was interesting, and Humphrey definitely knows his material. However, for the price charged I was pretty underwhelmed by the experience offered. I assumed the $50 price tag was because it was low season and so it was basically booking a private tour. I still thought it was high but thought I'd give it a shot since it had such good reviews (and I went to check his website to see if there was a way to book directly for cheaper, but his website actually directs people back there). Once getting to the tour, I was surprised there was actually someone else there as well.
On top of that, the tour was about 2, maybe 2.5 hours and I had to pay an entry fee of 1200 KSH. I remember being surprised that so many people paid this fee for what was a group tour that was quite short and didn't include entry - then I found out that this tour is _also_ posted on a different platform as a "pay what you wish" type free walking tour, which is where I think more bookings come from. If I booked that, I think I would have felt differently and probably given $15-20 as my tip to him on top of the entry fee for the fort, but I did not feel the tour was worth anything near $50, and I think it's a little bit deceptive to offer this paid experience and club it together with that. It's also not unintentional because Humphrey's personal website only directs people back to this booking rather than both platforms. Three stars because he was a good guide, but definitely would not pay this much for it, not worth the cost.

The tour was good for me. Humphrey covered the key features of the Fort Jesus site, and shared a great bit of details about the Portuguese, Omani, and British incursions in this area.
We did not cover everything on the itinerary because Humphrey arrived 40 minutes late. To add insult to injury, when he arrived he didn’t come straight to where we were, he went to a kiosk to purchase something. It was the other tour guides in the area who identified him for us. Toward the end of the tour, we felt a little rushed because he had to meet another group. I was displeased about this because I don’t think that we got what we paid for.
More generally, I did not get a sense of the native African perspective of that history that exists outside of the European or Arab gaze.

Humphrey was great! He was on time (early even), knew a lot about Fort Jesus and Old town. We had an easy pace, he indicated places to stop for local shopping. He was flexible with my schedule and made sure I had to taxi to go back to my hotel before leaving!

Our party of 5 enjoyed our time with Humphrey learning the history of Mombasa at Fort Jesus. The walking tour was a perfect excursion for all ages and Humphrey is so knowledgeable and fun! We all had a fantastic time walking through Old Town. Highly recommend!

Humphrey was the best! He’s very thoughtful and tailored the experience to my needs. I did this tour by myself, and he made sure to take lots of photos for my social media! Even got expert angles! I 100% recommend this tour to anyone visiting Mombasa. A lot of the things we did I don’t think I could’ve done alone.
