The Mt. Sibayak volcano offers some of Sumatra’s most spectacular sunrise views, all the way to Medan, Berastagi, and Mt. Sinabung. It’s a short hike, but not one to attempt without a guide. Angi our guide was very calm and made a very good impression. We felt very safe with him. He shared a lot of interesting information and he was very flexible and understanding towards our needs as a family with smaller kids. He made delicious coffee at the summit and we enjoyed the trekking with Angi soooo much.

Anggi was the best guide ever! Showed us the best spots from the very top of the mountain and was our own personal photographer. He took us to the thermal springs and to a local place for breakfast before dropping us off at our Homestay. 10/10 would recommend to anyone visiting Sumatra!

I went on this sunrise hike with Anggi as my guide and I 100% recommend this. I had an absolutely lovely time with Anggi. He was kind, funny and extremely knowledgeable about the region and Sumatra in general. He explained a lot about the jungle, the plants, and the political climate in Indonesia. The views at the top were extremely rewarding and the visit down the sulfar lake was awesome. It all ended very well with a visit at the the hotspring. Anggi even gave me recommendations for what to do at my next destination (Lake Toba).

This is a truly memorable experience and having a knowledgeable and informed guide is essential. Climbing up in the dark is not something an outsider should consider but the reward in reaching the summit before dawn is immense. Having a hot freshly brewed Sumatra coffee a bonus. The gas emitting from the mountain is like a huge blast furnace and make sure you’re not downwind of the nauseous sulphuric gas. Some brave souls do camp up there.

It’s was a wonderful hike. Easy but must be really careful as it’s very slippery especially after rain. Proper hiking shoes helps.
Overall I enjoyed the magnificent view at sunrise , clear view of Mount Sinabung and the very professional service from our guide, Nusan! Thank you, Nusan for the wonderful hike and introducing to us the raspberries , giant Pandan and medicinal plants along the way. And of course not forgetting the hot coffee & snacks especially prepared for us on top ! Terimakasih!

Hiking the volcano Sybayak is amazing. I strongly recommend. You can experience the alive earth!
Hendra is the best travel guide I’ve ever met.
He is very kind, friend, fun and deliberate all the way up to the top of the mountain.
He explained about geography, trees and plants. The view of the top of the mountain is breathtaking! He took me the best view spot and prepared the apple for me.
He also helped me a lot to arrange taxi and short trip to other region. Meeting him in Berastagi is best luck of my trip to Sumatra.
