Itinerary

Travel independently to Shekou ferry terminal in Shenzhen to catch a morning ferry to Macau, set on the western bank of the Pearl River.

After the scenic cruise, step ashore at Macau Outer Harbour ferry terminal, and meet your Macau tour guide. Then, settle inside a comfortable, air-conditioned coach, and set off on your tour of this buzzing city to admire its UNESCO-listed sights and other landmarks.

As you travel, uncover fascinating facts about Macau’s history and culture. Governed by the Portuguese from the mid-1500s until 1999, when it came under China’s sovereignty, this former colony was once a powerful east Asian trading port.

Admire the richly decorative, UNESCO-listed Temple of A-Ma, a Chinese temple dating to 1488; and see the famous Ruins of St. Paul’s — where the still-standing, 17th-century façade of the Church of St. Paul is the only remnant of one of Macau’s most important Jesuit places of worship.

See the remains of the Old City Walls, built by the Portuguese using soil, clay, rocks, and oyster shells; and visit the UNESCO-protected Monte Fort, the best-preserved European fortress in east Asia. Stroll around the battlements, and opt to visit the fort’s Macau Museum (own expense).

After a buffet lunch at the 360 Cafe, a revolving restaurant at the Macau Tower, a 1,109-foot (338-meter) entertainment tower opened in 2001. If you wish, head inside (own expense) to visit the observation lounge, where the vast glass windows command spectacular, 360-degree views over the Macau peninsula and to mainland China.

End your tour with a coach drop-off at your chosen Macau hotel, or at the ferry terminal to travel independently (own expense) back to Shenzhen or on to Hong Kong.
