Paul was an excellent guide—friendly, knowledgeable, informative and considerate. The transportation van was new, clean and comfortable. Though we had a small group, they didn’t cancel the trip and Paul made sure we still saw all of the sights. Fortunately, the weather was beautiful and we couldn’t have been more impressed with the area - beautiful, rugged scenery (lakes, mountains, rivers and farm animals) mixed in with quaint villages with shops, pubs and cafes. We highly recommend Mountain Goat Tours and this particular tour. Thank you!! We will be booking again in the future.

This was a great tour. Jean was a great driver/guide adapting to the conditions as required. The Lake District is beautiful and I really loved the tour of them. We had plenty of good photos spots and the scenery as we were driving around was stunning. I highly recommend this tour.

This is a great tour to get a taste of the Lake District. Bowness was such a charming town with lots of bakeries and eateries to stop at and eat before the lake cruise. We had fantastic weather and the lake cruise was very smooth. The steam train was a fun, quick experience. We walked off the boat and right to the train where Mountain Goat has a reserved part of the train for us. The other villages/hamlets we stop at are very small and the time spent is each is enough to wander and quickly grab an ice cream, drink, or pop in a shop or two. The Tarn How stop was a a highlight. The views were just stunning! Jean was a great driver/guide with lots of knowledge. She gave great tips on where to go at each stop. This tour gave us just a taste of the area and we would love to go and stay in the area.

It was just an ok trip due to rain, they did not follow the iternary. We were guided by the driver who was ok but the rain limited is from seeing or visiting locations.

Because of the unique landscape and sometimes tricky road conditions, we occasionally have to adjust the tour path for everyone’s safety. If you're looking for an unforgettable day trip from Liverpool, Mountain Goat Tours is the way to go! My journey to the breathtaking Lake District was made even more special thanks to our incredible tour guide, Jean.
The two-hour drive from Liverpool to the Lake District flew by, as Jean kept us entertained throughout, breaking up the trip with engaging stories and interesting stops. Once we arrived, we had time to explore, grab a bite to eat, and browse some charming souvenir shops before boarding the lake cruise.
The boat ride was a wonderful way to soak in the stunning scenery, and the best part—it seamlessly led straight to the classic steam train! Stepping onto the vintage locomotive felt like stepping back in time, adding a nostalgic charm to the adventure.
Jean then took us to another lovely small town for a late lunch, followed by more photo opportunities of the picturesque landscapes. Every stop was carefully planned, making sure we got the most out of our visit.
The entire experience was well worth the money and the drive. From start to finish, we got to witness some of the most beautiful parts of northern England, all while enjoying great company and effortless organization. If you're considering this tour, don’t hesitate—it’s truly a must-do!

A great bus with giant windows. Nice day trip. Guide was ok. Could have been a bit more informative about Wordsworth and Potter. Ride on train was really short and uneventful. The boat ride was fine. No time to explore the towns except one which was stop for lunch.

The weather was brilliant and the day was even better. The scenery was absolutely amazing and the sun unveiled some quality photo opportunities of blue skies with light clouds over the mountains.
The ferry was relaxing and with the lack of wind went smoothly across the lake.
The train carriages are much more comfortable than I imagined with a short ride on steam train was a memorable experience.
The tour guide Jean was friendly and knowledgeable about the locations and added back stories to the places that we visited.
Easily a 5 star experience and well worth the money.

The company does not check ahead what restaurants or coffee shops might be open where you are dropped off. Two stops we had I walked to five different places before I found somewhere to get a hot drink as it was so cold. Ridiculous

This tour was an excellent way to squeeze The Lake District into my family's Liverpool vacation. I felt like we truly got a feel for the beauty and history of the region with each of our stops (I could have stayed for hours in each stop, but completely understand the brevity based on how many places we were able to see!). We weren't lucky with the weather, but it was beautiful nonetheless - I even think the overcast skies and rain added to the atmosphere. David was an excellent guide, making sure we had toilet breaks along the way and giving very clear instructions on how much time we had in each spot and where we'd be meeting him. We had to skip one of the lookout spots listed because of the bad weather conditions, but David brought us to Wray Castle instead, which I absolutely loved. If you're looking to see The Lake District in a day, I very highly recommend this tour!

We have seen a lot of places, which is nice, but the downside was that there was very little time spent in each.
Colin was our guide, very helpful and ready to answer any questions we had.
The only thing I was missing is the story telling / tour guiding part. There was a very short introduction to Liverpool at the beginning but then almost no story telling at all about the places we went to, just very basic introductory data.
All in all we had a nice time. :)

This was a very enjoyable itinerary - and also very ambitious as it offered transportation to the Lake District, a boat ride on one of the lakes, a train ride in an old train and marvelous scenery with several stops. It was everything you'd want in a tour. The one fly in the ointment is that the air conditioning was not working in the van although the driver tried everything he could so. While it was a warm, sunny day that was much preferable over a cold, rainy day. I liked that it was from Liverpool which entered into our choice to stay in Liverpool, which turned out to be a cool city.

This tour was very peaceful and scenic. Our driver Scott was fun, professional, knowledgeable and interactive. The scenery was very green, lush and beautiful. Hawkshead was pretty with the old stone buildings and homes. The boat ride offered great views from the water. Weather changed several times throughout the day so best to have layers :)

This day trip from Liverpool to the Lake District, run by the Mountain Goat tour agency, was good. Gene/Jean(?) was our driver/guide and she was excellent at both driving around the really narrow roads and she was knowledgeable about the area. The sights were pleasant and I particularly enjoyed the Tarn Hows area. Not a fault of the agency but the Lake Windermere boat was quite crowded with tourists and it was a bit stressful. Also, the tour lasted just over 10 hours, not the 9 hours advertised.

David was so kind, excellent driver and very punctual. We had a lovely day all around the lakes and beautiful countryside. The ferry was just long enough to enjoy but not too long and the short train ride was a treat. We are so glad we didn’t drive those narrow streets and have to navigate the traffic. Great day!!

I liked the tour - the guide was great and very knowledgeable! However please note if you book on Viator - the meeting time is INCORRECT! It says “meet at 9:25am for a 9:30am departure” but you actually need to be there at 8:55am for a 9am departure. I almost missed the tour because of this error. I arrived at 9:20am thinking I was early because of these instructions.

Jean, our tour guide to the Lake District was a great driver considering changes to our route due to road closure and to reckless motorists. Jean covered so many topics in her commentary such as these: geology, hydrology, archeology, prehistory, recent history, culture , geography , farming and conservation. It was a real pleasure touring with her.
