We weren’t overly impressed with the excursion. The transportation was by far the best part since we were on a cruise so they met us right at the port and drove us to both the Olympic ruins and to the beach. When we got to the ruins, she made sure we got thru the admission gate and then someone else gave us a brief tour and then 10-12 minutes to walk around independently and take pictures. The ruins are super impressive either but I can say I’ve done it now. Then we went to the beach and it was great to relax and cool off. We were super hungry and were hoping for some authentic Greek food options but not really. We ended up ordering a pizza that tasted like a frozen one bought at a grocery store. I know we weren’t there for the food. It was great to have chairs, a spot all set up, and a server all ready for us. At the end she mentioned a tip but it really should go to the driver bc she didn’t give a tour of the ruins nor did she serve us or do anything at the beach. The true value of this excursions is the transport.
Our visit to Olympia was a bit of a mixed experience. The ruins were interesting from a historical perspective, but our teens weren’t particularly interested, and the extreme heat made it difficult to fully enjoy the experience. It felt like about 100,000,000 degrees that day!
The beach afterward was definitely the highlight. It was small but beautiful and very relaxing, and we were able to enjoy a nice lunch right by the water. Overall, it was a nice day, but with teenagers and the intense heat, we probably would have spent more time at the beach and less time exploring the ruins.
Great tour! Best way to hit both things we wanted to do for a reasonable price. Tonya, our tour guide, was amazing! She brought us to a great café on the beach, where we had chairs, umbrellas, and we were able to order great food. She also shared her recipe for Tzatziki sauce! I’d definitely recommend this tour!
The ancient Olympia tour was guided and was filled with a lot of historical facts. We took photos during the tour because our “free-time” after the guided tour was only -10 mins, which was not very long to go back and photo everything on the grounds. Afterwards, we went to a beach that was beautiful. There were comfortable lounge chairs to relax and order drinks & food (fees not included with tour but priced fair). The drinks were delicious! The water was refreshing and clear. The sand did have some small pebbles, so I recommend wearing swim shoes in the water. Overall, it was a great tour and I highly recommend it. Our tour guide was very nice. She gave us the “secret recipes” for making traditional Greek tzatziki and lemon oil dressing.
Our tour guide Michael at ancient Olympia was five star fantastic! So knowledgeable and kind! It was a pleasure and would do a longer tour knowing he was our guide!! The beach was beautiful but because our tour was in the afternoon we did not get there till 4pm. Still, there was shade and area to eat and drink. If you book on a summer Sunday, know the locals will be there in full force as they have free access to that beach. Still a lovely time
Olympia tour was very informative as our guide by the name of Michael works on the site as an archeologist and provided a lot of detailed information and showed what that sites originally looked like through his books he brought on tour.
Make certain that you have your entrance tickets to the Acropolis in advance! I had a bad internet connection and the bought my tickets for me and I refunded them.
Our tour of Ancient Olympia was great! We saw and learned so much, both outside at the ruins and in the museum. We definitely recommend doing this tour.
Our guide Chris was extremely professional and knowledgeable, he went out of his way to try and make sure that everyone enjoyed themselves. The fact that the order of the excursion was changed really angered a lot of people. Heading to the beach at 9:30am in the morning when it was 60-65 degrees outside and then going to Olympia in the afternoon when it was 80 degrees was NOT what we signed up for. It should have been done the way it was presented; regardless how busy it may have been at Olympia in the morning. I may not be back.
The tour is historic and relaxing. We started on the beach and the Ionian ocean was refreshing. The beach set up and facilities were perfect and the service was excellent.
The tour of Olympia was educational, short enough to understand and absorb the information. The bus ride was comfortable and timely. Our tour guide Christop was patient, accommodating and very helpful.
Great tour to get a small flavor of this part of Greece.
Aristea was a great guide! She was very knowledgeable.
Pickup was very easy, travel to the site was comfortable.
An outstanding tour guide who provided a perspective on Olympia and the history of the Olympics. Our tour guide provided an insight to the basis of the games which will help me understand the traditions upon which the games were founded. The beaches that we were taken to were outstanding and served as a wonderful backdrop for a spectacular day.
Chris was great! My friend got sick in the middle of the tour and he helped us catch a cab back to the cruise ship and showed genuine concern.
We did this trip instead of one of the cruise ship excursions. Easy access and location of the group in the port of Olympia. Olympia is really big and it was great to have the tour guide. Going to the beach was a bucket list item....nice place and there were good food options there (which was generally the source for the umbrellas). The beach is not very wide and you cannot easily go out too far. If the beach is a bucket list item this is good because you get that but as well as Olympia. If we had done an all day beach thing in the same location we would have been bored. Tour did Olympia first. Just consider your plan for lunch )which can be the restaurants by the beach).
10/10 loved the tour of Olympia. Timing was perfect and the beach was great.
So much history. Enjoy speaking with all the locals too!
