If you're picturing a classic whitewater rafting trip in the Rocky Mountains, this 8 mile (13-km) journey down the Snake River in Wyoming is it. Traverse about eight sets of Class I, II, and III rapids as you make your way through Snake River Canyon, aka the Grand Canyon, with a rafting guide. When booking, select the rafting season and corresponding departure time you prefer.

When: 30 minutes prior to your scheduled trip time Where: Mad River, 1255 South Highway 89 Jackson Wyoming 83001. Just 2 miles south of the town square, between Whole Grocer and Smith’s Grocery. Transportation from the Mad River Boat Wedge to the river and back is provided on every Mad River trip.

Your tour starts at the rafting office in Jackson, where you'll check in 30 minutes before your scheduled launch time. From here, you'll be transferred to West Table Boat Ramp on the Snake River to hop aboard your raft with your guide.
When everyone is geared up and ready, set off down the river toward Alpine, Wyoming, traveling eight river miles in total. With your guide providing instructions, navigate about eight sets of rapids, ranging from Class I to Class III, including features such as the Big Kahuna rapids, Lunch Counter, the Million Dollar Fishing Hole, Gauging Straights, and Bailing Straights.
During the calmer moments, listen to commentary from your guide about the area's history, wildlife, and vegetation. Take in views of the Grand Canyon of the Snake River, and keep your eyes open for animals like bald eagles, river otters, osprey, mule deer, elk, a mountain goat, or maybe even a bear, if you're really lucky.
Your rafting tour takes place on a standard-size inflatable, self-bailing, 18-foot (5.5-meter) AIRE raft, which seats 16 people but these tours average 10 to 12 guests per boat. Both paddling and non-paddling positions are available.
When your rafting adventure ends, you'll be returned to the tour office.

Additional Info
- Confirmation will be received at time of booking
- Please wear shoes that can get wet that will not fall off your feet. An old pair of running shoes or water shoes would be your best option. You must wear footwear in the raft, so we do have booties available for rent if you do not have footwear. Sizes run 2 – 15 and can be rented upon arrival for $5.00 per pair.
- Please wear synthetic clothing if possible and bring layers. Synthetics are best for the river because they dry faster than cotton. A bathing suit underneath shorts and a t-shirt is fine for a nice, warm, summer day.
- Not wheelchair accessible
- Conditions can be variable; you may experience a cold day on the river. (Not to worry, it will still be a lot of fun. You just have to dress appropriately!)
- We have wet suits & wet suit jackets available for rent. Wet suits are $10.00 to rent. Wet suit jackets are $5.00 to rent.
- Splash gear is complimentary. On a cold day, you’ll want a bathing suit to wear under the wet suit.
- Bring a change of dry clothes and a towel!
- Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat are highly recommended.

We are early '70s and thought this might be too rough for us. It was not it was amazing We sat in the back and left the youngsters do all the paddling because we both had shoulder replacements. It was absolutely breathtaking trip. It was also our birthday that day! Very professional staff with safety number one. Thank you all We will definitely use this viator again

this was a great family experience with older kids that are new to Whitewater rafting and not yet ready for class four and five rapids. Fun for the whole family. We all had a great time.

The snake river was so much fun to whitewater raft! Our guide Bobby was really cool! Wish we could have spent more time on the river. They were very nice and gave us wetsuits for free because it was a cold day which was much appreciated!

The entire experience was terrific! If you are in Jackson Hole don’t miss it. Our guide, Ree, was professional, knowledgeable and made the trip exciting. I would be remiss if I didn’t complement the tour operator, Mad River Boat Trips and Viator - both great companies with great teams. They both worked really hard to makes sure this was a highlight of our visit.
Next time we visit JH we will be booking another trip with both!

Very fun! Our guide, Jimmy, was fun and knowledgeable. Would recommend. It was 70 degrees in Jackson, but river is very cold and you get wet and it’s windy down on the river; suggest the wet suits.

I went with my sister n law and my husband and we had a blast. The rapids were not so rough that I was scared I would fall out of the boat but rough enough to make it exciting. Our guide Jimmy,was terrific.

The trip was so much fun. We had a fabulous ride, got a chance to get soaked, to swim to paddle or not-paddle. Our guide was funny and clearly very very competent. We enjoyed being with our boat-mates. A highlight of our trip to Jackson.

We had a blast!! We loved our guide" GLENN". I thought he did an awesome job especially with the six kids we had on our boat. He got us to cheer after every major rapids.
