The mineral landscape of Pamukkale blends with the ancient ruins of Hierapolis.
Our guide was great, providing us great stories about the area from pickup in Izmir to drop off back at our hotels. Fact filled but also great in letting us explore as we pleased.

Communication before the tour was great, all my questions were answered quickly. Our guide wasn’t the friendliest though, especially compared to another tour I did with the same company where the guide was super enthusiastic. It’s about a 3-hour drive from Izmir, with a quick stop halfway at a petrol station. When I went, there wasn’t any water in the iconic upper travertine pools (the ones closed off to tourists), and the open ones on top were pretty packed. I’d recommend heading down to the lower pools, they were way less crowded, some even empty, and you can go for a swim if you want. The Cleopatra Pool was closed for renovations when I visited, which was a bit disappointing since I was really looking forward to swimming there. Our guide mentioned it might reopen later in the year.

Alparen Uğur our tour guide was very knowledgeable and very easy to understand. He spoke very good English. He took time to answer all our questions. The visit to Pamukkale was better than expected. We got a chance to dip our feet in travertine pools. Was a cool experience. Unfortunately Chleopatra's pool was closed due to renovation. Highly recommend this tour.

Our guide Alperen was great with his directions, history lessons and overall demeanour, making the site tour and bus ride enjoyable. A previous review is correct in that it would have been helpful to know that the Cleopatra pools were closed (also seems they have been closed for some time) and this should have been advised prior to the tour so that visitors could opt out if they wished.
The other note, which is the main reason for the average review is the Onyx shop. It wasn't listed in the itinerary, and perhaps this is because the organiser knows this shop is a scam. Unfortunately, we fell for this scam and paid greatly as a result. Not to mention another review being accurate in the staff literally stalking you in the store, which made for a creepy experience that we ended up ignoring, only to be had anyway by one of the nicer staff. If you do this tour, learn from our mistake: DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THE ONYX SHOP.
Response from Host, Aug 2025
We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the tour with our guide Alperen. We are truly sorry for the negative experience at the Onyx shop and appreciate you sharing this feedback. We hope to welcome you again on another tour for a better experience.

This was an incredible day! I can’t say enough wonderful things about our guide, Alperen! He was so informative and enthusiastic about our day plans. The ruins were majestic and the Pamukkale pools were breathtaking. There was ample time at each location. Temperatures were nice, but if you are going in July and August be sure to bring an umbrella and water. This is a 10/10!!!
Response from Host, Jun 2025

This was a neat trip to see the travertine’s and Hierapolis! The tour went smoothly and selim (guide) and the driver (John?) were very kind.
Highlights: hieropolis theatre was spectacular! Travertines were really cool and beautiful colour!
Lowlights: crazy crowded unfortunately due to public holiday. HOT (bring lots of water). I didn’t personally need or enjoy the two stops to the rock and Turkish delight shops especially since the day is already so long being that pemukkale is such a distance from Izmir!
My feedback regarding the information provided on the tour would be that there is improvement needed. Selim was kind and did know some of the origins of words like theatre and things and some light facts. But otherwise there was very little history or information provided around the region, the sites or what they were used for. I asked a few questions and didn’t really get any answers per se. I realized this comparison after I attended the Ephesus tour a few days after this one and realized how drastic a difference there was where my tour guide there provided so much knowledge and information about Turkey, its history and all the different sites.
Overall it was an okay tour. But I really wanted to see pemukkale and I’m very glad I did despite the lowlights!
If you can, I would recommend renting a car and doing this on your own so you can get to the travertine’s before the crowds! It would be so much nicer! I’ll definitely do that if I return again!

bus ride was good, food was ok, but the guide could be better.. didn’t give a lot more information than the written panels at the site. would have been much more interesting if there was more info on the general history of the place and the technical/geological aspects

The tour was well organised and timed. Most of the day is spent driving to the sight but it's worth the trek. Alpe kept us informed about what we were passing along the way and was very knowledgeable about the history of the sight when we were walking around.

Thank you for your kind words! We're happy to hear you found the tour well-organized and worthwhile. Alperen will be pleased to know his knowledge and guidance made a positive impact on your experience. We hope to welcome you on another tour soon!

Best part of this tour was Hieropolis and our guide Alpi's amazing guiding! he was so knowledgable, talked to us a lot about overall Turkish history and other things we should explore within the country. He was a great ambassador for Turkey and we cannot wait to return! Hieropolis was amazing, beautiful theater and learning about the history of this community was very cool. The lakes were a bit less exciting than anticipated, but certainly a good instagram opp for some. Thank you Alpi for a great day!!
Response from Host, May 2025
Thank you for your wonderful feedback! We were delighted to hear that Alperen made your Hierapolis tour so unforgettable with his passion and knowledge of Turkish history. We are glad you enjoyed the theater and overall experience. We look forward to welcoming you again on your next adventure!

The trip to Pamukkale was nice. The pools are nice, but the temporary closure of Cleopatra’s pools should have been posted on the site. The stop to the jeweler was not necessary. The plus of the trip: the guide, Selim, was informative and very, very kind. Thought not what we expected, it was with the trip. Beautiful time.
Response from Host, Apr 2025
Dear Ms. Karin
Thank you very much for your kind comment.
Since Cleopatra pool is temporarily closed for renovation, it has been removed from our tour programme and is not included in the programme.
A visit to the art workshop where precious metals from the region are processed is included in our tour programme.
Thank you very much for your valuable comment about our tour guide. We hope we can welcome you again on your next visit.

Great tour. The Pamukkele pools are stunning. Added bonus is the Roman ruins that shows the whole city where houses were built with intact amphitheater and bath houses. Ali was a great tour guide, very informative.

The transport to and from Pamukkale was smooth, comfortable, and efficient. The pickup was well-coordinated, making for a hassle-free start to the trip. Along the way, we had a few breaks at gas stations, which helped break up the journey.
Our visit to Pamukkale and Hierapolis was fantastic. Our guide, Erman, provided insightful historical context about the region and the formation of the travertines before we arrived, then shared more in-depth information about key sites within the area. We spent some time near the theater and made several stops at notable landmarks before reaching the travertines.
We were given an hour and a half of free time to explore at our own pace before regrouping. Exploring different parts of the ancient city, including the necropolis, museum, and travertines, was a fascinating experience. After the tour, we enjoyed a satisfying lunch and made a brief stop at a shop before heading back.
Overall, it was a well-organized and enjoyable journey to an incredible historical site.

We had a great day on our tour! Thankfully it wasn’t too crowded. It was a bit disappointing to learn that cleopatra pools were closed for renovation. However, we got to enjoy many other great elements of the Heliopolis. St Philip’s church was worth the climb! One major issue we had was that the tour operators did not communicate to the driver or guide that our dropoff would be at airport- despite us confirming that this is our drop off multiple times, even a day before. However, the guide and we figured out the issue and made it to our flight on time. Lastly did not enjoy the mandatory stop at the shops. Would have preferred more time at the historical sites. Overall, would recommend as a good contrast to Ephesus.
Response from Host, Apr 2025
Thank you for your review! We're glad to hear you had a great day on the tour and that the peaceful atmosphere and highlights of Hierapolis—especially St. Philip’s Church—made the experience memorable, even with the Cleopatra Pools temporarily closed. It’s wonderful that you found the tour a great complement to Ephesus. We appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you again soon!

Wonderful sites and amazing tour with Alperen (tour guide). The trip from Izmir to Pamukkale is not short so it’s great to be in a comfortable van for transport. The itinerary was good, really enjoyed walking through the ruins, especially with Alperen’s guidance and knowledge. Loved the thermal terraces…don’t forget to bring a towel.
Final note: the stop between Izmir and Pamukkale at the gas station has two entrances, would recommend the main entrance where you pay for gas, has more options.

Our tour in Pamukkale was awesome, and Aplperen made it even better! We were lucky enough to have a private tour, and he really brought the place to life with his fun and informative stories about the history and culture. He answered all our questions in detail, and his English was spot on – it felt like we were just chatting with a friend. The drive and lunch were great too. If you’re thinking about doing this tour, don’t hesitate – it was definitely the highlight of our two weeks in Turkey!

Got met at the hotel at 7:30,the bus was nice and clean. It was about 2:30 hour drive to the site but we did stop at servo for toilet and leg stretch. Once at Pamukkale the guild was great very knowledgeable and enthusiastic showing places and giving us time to take pictures while explaining some of the history. We then walked to the end of the site was with the thermal pools were we got an hour to relax and walk around. Lunch was a buffet at a restaurant near by and was really good with nice variety of food that should fit most people. Then back on the bus to go back to Izmir.

Simply spellbound at sheer beauty of travertines. Huge history at site. Guide Selim was good and warm. Lunch was fine, could have been better. Time constraint was of course there but that's understandable since the distance between izmir and pamukkale is huge. Over all good experience.
