Hiro showed great hospitality. I enjoyed my time with him and those he introduced me to. The knife I made for my father is awesome, lunch was delicious and I especially enjoyed holding a samurai sword. Arigatou Gozaimazu.

A wonderful experience for our group of 4. We practiced the art of knife making with a master, had a fantastic lunch, learnt about samurai swords. We got to take home the knives we made as well as some wonderful memories. Thanks to Hiro for a great day!

If you have any interest in knives at all, or simply wish to experience the practice that’s been ongoing at this location for over 100 years, this experience is a must. Even though I was late, the three people I met (Hiro, Sumi, and Yoshi) were super kind and supportive, ensuring I experienced the whole experience as a solo traveller. They were super kind and ensured the experience is one I will never forget.

That it is with a very small group so you get all the attention you need. Furthermore that the 2 brothers Sakai are very passionate about the process of making knives.

      Thank you Sumio and Yoshi

We found this to be a very enjoyable experience. Sumio and Yoshi are the perfect hosts/instructors. They have a lot of knowledge to share and we appreciated their sense of humor. As we had a big group of people, the knife making steps took longer and it seems we ran out of time to visit the Gifu Cutlery Hall. However, we felt that the hosts did a great job in managing the time that we had. The bonus in having a larger group was meeting and spending time with travelers from different countries. The tempura restaurant (Suzuki) that we visited for lunch was an outstanding choice. The food was absolutely delicious and made for a perfect break in the day. As a participant, you're not actually forging the knife blade but just assembling, sharpening, polishing and putting your name (in Kanji characters) on it. It was the perfect amount of hands-on work and you leave with a sharp knife that will always remind you of the town of Seki, hosts Sumio and Yoshi and the others who shared in the beautiful day.

      Wonderful day!

The Samurai Knife Making Experience was exceptional. I honestly count this experience as very special. The hosts Sumio, Yoshi, and Hiro were very kind and good company, the instruction was clear and the finishing of my new knife was good fun. I also very much enjoyed the subsequent lunch locally (the best tempura ever!) and museum tour of the Seki Traditional Swordsmith Museum, etc. Thank you so much Sumio, Yoshi and Hiro!
