Great tour with "Marcus" around the streets of Chester. Loved exploring the basements of various shops to see Roman ruins (one of which is not open to the public). Our guide was seriously knowledgeable about the topic and really brought everything to life with props and costume - we loved it!!

Excellent guided walk. Marcus was a really interesting guide whose delivery of the facts was suitable for all audiences and he answered all questions that he was asked. Chester is a wonderful city with amazing history. If Marcus (Kieran) was to run a longer tour I for one would happily pay more.

I would say if you are going to do the Chester Roman Tour, please use Viator.
From my personal experience Viator went out of their way to sort out all my issues.
The Tour itself was great, and I would recommend it. Although I am not a local to Chester, I have been there many times before, and the tour took us to parts I wasn’t aware existed, so we really enjoyed the experience as a family. Big shoutout to Paul and Callen Of Viator.

Enjoyed a very interesting and informative tour of Roman Chester this afternoon with Optio Marcus. He was engaging, funny, and full of enthusiasm, guiding the group around the extant remains of the ancient fortress. It was a real treat to see the Principia columns under the cafe! Marcus also told us about his custom-made legionary kit, and we were able to handle reproduction and real artefacts. A great tour, well worth your time - I have a PhD in ancient history and was thoroughly entertained - and even learned something new!

Was very informative professional humorous and very interesting. Julius was so knowledgeable about the Romans. Really knew his stuff. Would highly recommend this tour. My partner was in an electric wheelchair and only missed 1 part of the tour while we went into a cellar. Love to go again next time we're in Chester

We learned lots about daily life for legionaries, plus ranks, pay, risks, and the biggest surprise-- some were women from what is now Ukraine and Russia (our soldier tour guide was a woman). But all women, whether soldiers or not, had to sleep outside the walls. Also, historic Roman baths bigger and grander than those at Bath were bulldozed for a shopping development several decades ago, after a mere 4 days for a bare minimum of archeological exploration. What a loss!
